This is an All Ears English bonus. How Adan overcame her English fear.

Speaker 1

Speaker 0

今天您将认识来自巴西的优秀学员阿丹,她将分享如何克服开口说英语的恐惧,并通过注重沟通来提升流利度。

Today, you'll meet Adin, one of our amazing All Ears English students from Brazil. She'll share how she overcame her fear of speaking English and focused on connection to boost her English fluency. Fluency.

Speaker 1

回想上次有人凑近说'抱歉,能再说一遍吗?'那种挫败感。明明知道这个词...

Think about the last time someone leaned in and said, sorry. Can you say that again? It's frustrating. Right? You know the word.

Speaker 1

您说出来了但发音不清晰。这不是语法或词汇问题,而是发音问题。这并非要改变自我或消除口音,而是让您的英语表达每次都能清晰易懂。

You said it, but the sound wasn't clear. That's not a grammar or a vocabulary problem. It's a pronunciation problem. And it doesn't mean changing who you are or erasing your accent. It means making your English easy to follow and clear every time.

大家好,欢迎收听。今天我们邀请到令人振奋的嘉宾阿丹。能介绍一下自己吗?

Hello, everyone. Welcome. We have a very exciting guest today on the podcast, Adan. Hello. Can you introduce yourself?

Speaker 2

你好奥布里,我是伊登。我出生成长在巴西,现居米纳斯吉拉斯州的乌纳市。

Hello, Aubrey. I am Eden. I am I was born and raised in Brazil, and I live in the town Una City, Minas Gerais State.

Speaker 0

太棒了。很高兴你从巴西加入我们。听众朋友们,我们很荣幸邀请到学员阿丹——她最近给我们团队发了封感人邮件,讲述通过《全神贯注学英语》课程获得的成长。

Okay. Awesome. So I love you're joining us from Brazil. Everyone out there, we are excited to bring one of you, one of our listeners, one of our students. Adan recently sent the loveliest email to our team about what she has gained from listening to Allers English and taking one of our courses.

Speaker 0

这封邮件真是我们生活中的一缕阳光。因此我们特邀阿丹上节目——她在我们趣味十足的开放对话俱乐部里就像一股正能量。今天想把她分享给更多听众。感谢你的到来,阿丹。

And it really was just a joy and a light in our lives. And so we wanted to invite Aden on the podcast. You're just such a force for good, a force for positivity at our very fun Open Conversation Club in our community. So we wanted to share you a little bit with our listeners. Thank you for joining us today, Adan.

Speaker 2

谢谢你,奥布里,邀请我来到这里。

Thank you, Aubrey, for having me here.

Speaker 0

是啊,这会很有趣的。先给我们简单介绍一下你的英语学习历程吧。你学英语多久了?

Yeah, this is going to be fun. So give us a little bit of background about your English learning journey. How long have you been learning English?

Speaker 2

我现在52岁。43岁那年开始学习的,所以有9年了。

Now I am 52. I started my journey when I was 43. So nine years.

Speaker 0

所以那是——我

So that's I'm

Speaker 2

数学不太好。

not so so good in math.

Speaker 0

我懂,我也是对吧?千万别让我现场做数学题。那么,我很好奇是什么促使你开始学英语的?最初的学习动机是什么?

I know that's me too, right? Don't ask me to do any math problems on the fly, Yeah. Well, so I'm wondering what prompted you to start learning English? What was your why when you first got started?

Speaker 2

阿尔伯特,我觉得这与人生转折有关。当我跌入谷底时,意识到只有两个选择:要么继续躲在阴影里,要么穿越苦难山谷寻找光明。我决定向阳而行,因为我坚信生命在于行动,必须主动改变现状。

Well, I think, Albert, it has to do how things change in life. Once I hit rock bottom and I figure out that there were two options for me, leaving the stone's shadow or crossing that valley of misery, searching for the science. And I decided to move on towards the sun. And because I strongly believe that life is movement. You need to do something to change things.

Speaker 2

比如面对一扇关闭的门,你要去敲门,去推开它——因为那毕竟是门,不是墙。而英语学习就是我当时推开的一扇门,后来发现这不仅是普通的门,我打开的是一座城堡的大门。

And for example, if you have a door closed, Knock the door, do something, open the door because it's a door. It's not a wall. And one of the doors that I opened in that time was English learning. And I believe that it was not a simple door. I opened a gate of a castle.

Speaker 2

英语对我而言就是一座城堡。

English is a castle for me.

Speaker 0

天啊阿丹,你这些比喻太棒了。我想重点说说其中几个:首先你说自己曾跌入人生低谷,在黑暗中面临选择——是安于现状还是如你所说'向阳而行',选择带来光明与希望的道路对吗?

Oh man, Adan, I love all of these metaphors you're using. I wanna highlight some of them here. First of all, you're saying you sort of hit rock bottom in your life. You were going through a time of darkness and you had a choice of whether to choose, you know, to change something, dwell in that darkness or go toward the sun as you said it, right? Were saying something that brought you more light and positivity.

Speaker 0

我很高兴英语对你起到了这样的作用。我也很喜欢你说的这个想法——如果有门,就去敲它,做些什么来打开一扇门。而你把它形容为一道城门,这让我更觉得美妙。对吧?那道城堡的巨门,它比普通机遇要宏大得多。

And I love that English was that for you. And I love this thought of, you know, when you say, if there is a door, knock on it, do something to open a door. And I love that you're saying it's actually a gate. Right? The gate, a giant door of a castle that it was so much bigger than the average opportunity.

Speaker 0

那么英语具体是如何为你打开这些更大机遇的呢?哦,

And what about English would have opened these bigger opportunities for you? Oh,

Speaker 2

某种程度上我一直在学习,因为我总觉得自己会卡在某些节点。而英语不断推动我学习更多,直面恐惧。是的,所以我认为这是我们变得更好的秘诀。

it's kinda I am learning more and more because all the time I believe that I am stuck in some point. Our English has been pushing me to learn more, to face my fear. Yes, so I think it's my or our secret to be better.

Speaker 0

好的,我很欣赏这点。正如听众们所知,阿丹,你也明白,我们注重的是连接而非完美。这确实能赋予我们克服恐惧的自信,让我们在不执着于绝对完美的情况下继续前进、达成目标,只求看到进步。这很棒。那么阿丁,我想问问——我知道你参加了我们All Ears English的《连通交流者》课程。

Okay, I love that. Because as you guys know out there listening, Adan, as you know, we're all about connection, not perfection here. And that does have a lot to do with giving us that confidence to overcome fears, to move on and reach goals when we're not stuck trying to be exactly perfect and we're just trying to see progress. I love that. Okay, Adin, I wanna ask you about I know you took the Connected Communicator course that we have here at All Ears English.

Speaker 0

对于不熟悉的朋友们,这是个非常有趣的课程——林赛在美国进行公路旅行,走遍每个角落与当地人交谈。但阿丹德,你的体验如何?你觉得《连通交流者》课程怎么样?

For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is a really fun course where Lindsay did a road trip across The US, visited every corner of The USA, chatted with locals. It's such a fun course, but, Adend, what was your experience? How did you like the Connected Communicator course?

Speaker 2

因为正如我所说,我曾困在某种固定模式里。而这个课程让我提升了技能。说实话,我从未想象过多样性竟如此美妙。尽管有时也会引发争议,就像林赛提到的

It's because, as I told you, I was kind of stuck in some routine, yes, and with connected communicator, I could improve my skills. And to be honest, I could never had imagined how amazing diversity is. And although it's also contentious sometimes, as Lindsay had

Speaker 0

那些不同话题对吧?我们涉及了很多争议性议题——同性恋权利、枪支权利...是的,你听到了很多颇具争议的讨论。

said. Yes, these different topics, right? We go into a lot of these very controversial issues, gay rights, So gun rights in the yeah, you heard a lot of topics and conversations that were quite controversial.

Speaker 2

而美国是多样性的庇护所,人类多样性的。不仅如此,那些激励人心的故事和多元文化让我为自己设定了更高目标。

And US is the shelter of diversity, the human diversity, yes. More than these, the inspiring stories, multiple culture put me in a position that to set higher goals for myself.

Speaker 0

好的,这很棒。你通过采访听到的多样性故事充满积极力量,非常激励人心。这促使你对自己有更高期待,设定更高目标。那么你已完成课程,

Okay, I love that. So all of the diversity you saw with the people that you're hearing interviews with, the positivity is very motivational. You felt like that caused you to expect more of yourself to set these higher goals. I love that. So you finished the course.

Speaker 0

你最喜爱的部分是什么?是你学到的最喜欢的内容,还是听到的最精彩的对话?《连通交流者》课程中让你印象最深刻的是什么?

What would you say is your favorite thing? Like what was the favorite thing you learned or the favorite conversation heard? What is the highlight from that Connected Communicator course?

Speaker 2

我想我确实接触到了这个社群,是的,社群让我置身于不适区,让我意识到若想建立真正的连接,自己还需要更多努力。因为奥布里,直面犯错恐惧真的很难,但这也让我个人生活有了进步,对吧?

I think I had the access to the community, yes, and community puts me in my uncomfortable zone where I recognize that I need more if I want to have real connection. So because Aubrey, it's really hard to face your fear for making mistakes, and it has been an improvement for me in my personal life too, yes?

Speaker 0

好的。所以你会说仅仅是能成为'全神贯注英语'社群的一员就——

Okay. So you would say just being able to be a part of the All Ears English community was

Speaker 2

是最大的亮点。

the highlight.

Speaker 0

没错。我特别喜欢这点,因为报名我们任何课程的人都能自动加入这个社群,无论是'沟通达人'、商务英语课程、雅思课程,所有课程都包含。然后你就成为艾丁所说的这个支持性社群的一员,直面恐惧,勇于展现自我,并得到其他英语学习者的支持。还能参加'开放对话俱乐部'。我想问你

Yes. I love that because anyone who signs up for any of our courses is automatically able to join this community, whether you're taking Connected Communicator, the Business English course, IELTS, all of them. And then you're part of this supportive community that Edin is talking about, facing your fears, putting yourself out there, and getting support from other English learners. And also being able to come to Open Conversation Club. Wanted to ask you

Speaker 2

关于

about

Speaker 0

这个,你参加俱乐部有段时间了。每周见到你真开心。对于那些还不了解或尚未参加'开放对话俱乐部'的人,你有什么想说的?

that, You've been coming to that for a while. It's so fun to see you there every week. Do you think about Open Conversation Club for those out there who aren't aware of it or who aren't attending yet?

Speaker 2

噢,能遇见世界各地的人太棒了。我不知该如何形容那种感觉,但举个例子,上周我和一位罗马尼亚女孩在对话室时,她试图回忆描述某个物品的单词,最后放弃了,用罗马尼亚语问谷歌翻译'aspirado'。我直接从椅子上弹起来告诉她:哇!葡萄牙语里吸尘器也叫'aspirado'!

Oh, it's amazing meeting people from all over the world. And I don't know the name of the feeling that I have, but for example, I try to explain it. Last week, I was flabbergasted when I was in a conversation room with a Romanian girl, and she was trying to remember a word describing the object and so on. She gave up and she asked Google translator in Romania, Aspirado. And I jolted in my chair and I told her, Wow, Aspirado, it's vacuum cleaner is Aspirado in Portuguese too.

Speaker 2

说不定我们有着共同的曾曾曾祖父呢,我们几乎算是表亲了。对我来说,这就像触摸到微小奇迹——与可能终生都不会相遇的远方之人,竟拥有相同的语言(几乎相同),我知道我们有共同的拉丁词根,但连单词、拼写和发音都完全一致。这简直

And how come maybe we have the same great, great, great, great pa in common. We are almost cousins. And what I mean, for me is like I am touching small miracles and someone so far from me that we might never meet in life. Yes, we have the same language, almost the same, I know that we have the same Latin roots, but the same word, the same spelling, pronounced the same way. It's

Speaker 0

令人难以置信。我太喜欢这个故事了。就像你说的,遇见世界各地的人已经很酷,但还能发现语言上的共通之处,你们有着相同的语言根源。

Mind boggling. I love it. Oh, that's such a great story. It's so cool, like you said, to be meeting people from all over the world, but then to be finding these commonalities, both in your languages. Like you said, you have the same roots.

Speaker 0

所以你遇到来自罗马尼亚的人,发现语言上有相似性,生活中也是对吧?我们聊爱好聊兴趣时,经常发现彼此有这么多共同点,就像你说的,若非社群连接,可能永远没机会相遇或交谈。这太美好了。谢谢你们,艾达和索凡。

So you meet someone from Romania and discover you have similarities in language, also in life, right? We're talking about our hobbies and our interests. And so often that happens where you find that you have so much in common with someone, like you said, you might never meet in real life or you might never have had a chance to chat with if you weren't part of the community. So I love that. Thank you, Ada and Sofan.

Speaker 0

谢谢,Faye。最后一个问题想问你,成为All Ears English社区的一员,你觉得这给你的生活带来的最大改变是什么?

Thanks, Faye. One last question I wanna ask you, you know, how has being a part of this community, the All Ears English community, how would you say, what's the biggest way that this has changed your life?

Speaker 2

我现在更有勇气面对用英语交流的恐惧了。是的,我参与社区活动,有时甚至敢在直播活动中与人对话。这是我英语能力的进步。虽然我知道自己还不流利,但我一直在努力坚持。

I am better to face my fear to talk in English. Yes, I am participating with you in the community and sometimes I have the courage to be in a live event and to talk with someone. It's my improvement in English. I don't know if, I know that I am not fluent, yes, but I am trying and keep going.

Speaker 0

是的。你能在鼓励支持下坚持用英语交流、克服恐惧,这让我非常感动。我认为突破恐惧是提升语言能力最重要的途径。正如你所说,Adin,你经常在社区分享感兴趣的话题或提问,引发讨论,这反过来也给了其他人克服恐惧、参与英语对话练习的机会。

Yes. Oh, I love that so much that you are encouraged and supported to keep going, connecting in English, overcoming those fears. I think that's the biggest way we can improve our language is when we get past that fear. We get the support from a community that can help encourage us to put ourselves out there. Like you said, Adin, you're often posting things you're interested or interesting questions and sparking a conversation in the community, which in turn gives someone else the opportunity to overcome their fear and be a part of the conversation practicing their English.

Speaker 0

所以特别感谢你,Adin,成为我们社区的优秀成员。谢谢你来播客分享经历。

So just want to thank you, Adin, for being an amazing member of our community. Thanks for joining us on the podcast to share your experience.

Speaker 2

谢谢你,Aubrey。
