And action.
Happy Thursday, everyone.
It is Sarah Gretzky.
Natalie is busy being an actor, an artist of the arts.
So I am doing this episode with a special guest today who I'm so excited about.
There are a handful of podcasts that have influenced or helped honestly all podcasters around the world.
And there are a handful of podcasters who I'm so inspired by and honestly just today is very surreal.
This is a very surreal interview for me because I have been a fan of this guest for a very long time.
She is extremely talented.
She's extremely funny.
And she is an all around good time gal.
She is an actress, singer, dancer.
You know her from Glee.
And if you don't know her from Glee, you definitely know her from her podcast, The Lady Gang, which has also caused her to be a New York Times bestselling author.
I mean, she does it all.
And so I'm so grateful and I'm so thankful that today we get to have Becca Tobin on here with me.
It's an amazing interview and I really hope you guys like it.
I had a lot of fun with her.
And like I said before, this is this had me feeling your girl was riding high after.
So enjoy this episode, and I hope you guys love the interview with Becca.
Here she is.
好的。
Okay.
I am back with Becca.
Becca,
Becca, thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
I was late when I hate being late, but I had a good excuse.
所以
So
It was a good excuse.
I don't know if you can talk about it, but it was a great excuse.
是的。
Yes.
So myself and then the two other girls that I do the lady gang podcast with were invited to do Bethany Frankel's rewives podcast, which is where she's rewatching or watching for the first time because she wasn't really a housewives, you know, fan audience member.
对。
Yeah.
And we broke down one of those Salt Lake City episodes, and it was really fun.
And then we broke down the top 10 most important slash iconic housewives in history, which was really fun.
哇。
Wow.
Challenging.
Very challenging.
And I feel like, you know, we are not a Bravo podcast.
However, I talk about it a lot because Natalie is new to the Bravo world.
I made her watch.
I think she started with Salt Lake City.
But it's just wild the content Bethany's been giving us lately like Bravo Wise.
I love it because I told her actually on the podcast.
I said there's something about you as a housewife that there hasn't been someone like this since, where she has the she's self aware, and she's really smart, but she's so dynamic that I would watch her make a bagel, like chaotically on Instagram for three hours and be totally entertained.
The most mundane things on planet Earth she makes interesting and dynamic.
And I think that she is a special snowflake.
That is a very good point.
I actually, I was a guest cohost on a podcast, and she was the guest.
And I don't think I said a word.
I think I just sat there in awe.
It was like 2020 vibes, like weird times.
But I was just I was just terrified, maybe scared.
Like her presence is wild.
I just love it.
She's so intimidating, but then she's such a girl's girl.
She's so warm.
So it's this weird thing where I haven't actually felt this way about anybody else that I've ever met.
Like, what, you know, we've had a lot of people come on the podcast that are housewives or actresses or musicians or whatever.
But it's like this desperate need for her to like you and for her to not be mad at you and for her to like it's just approval.
I want Bethany's approval.
It's very like high school vibes.
Like, I'm scared of you, but please like me.
I mean, we we can't just dive right into it.
You know, we are a podcast where we talk about TVs and movies and what we're binging and what we're not binging.
So you're a reality fan.
Unfortunately, yes.
我是。
I am.
I know.
I would say unfortunately, but it's like my personality at this point.
Like, there's nothing about me.
There's no hiding it.
It's like, you know, we were talking offline.
We have a mutual friend, Jamie Lynn, who we absolutely love.
She's been on the podcast.
But, like, most of our conversations, like, if it's not us trying to meet up when I'm in Texas, it's about housewives or Bravo.
Yeah.
It's important conversations.
And I think I think it's very healthy.
I okay.
Not me, like, being a doctor or anything, but, like and you might feel the same way because you are an I mean, you're a new mom.
You know?
And sometimes you just, like, have to escape from, like Reality.
That is seriously mothering.
是的。
Yes.
没错。
Yes.
I am in such a ugh.
I mean, I could literally go off topic for a million years on now my almost two year two year old hating my guts.
But I'll go back to that.
I think it is healthy for that reason to be able to escape.
But I also think that women who, like you said, it's very high school.
We I remember being a teenage girl, and it was drama, drama, drama, drama, drama.
Just whatever whether I was in it or experiencing it, witnessing it, stirring the pot, it was it was my everything drama.
And they've done studies on the female brain, and either it's oxytocin or dopamine.
I'm so stupid.
I'm sorry.
I don't know which one.
One of the two feel good chemicals that is released in your brain is released when you're gossiping.
So they have they have watched our brains when we're sitting around talking shit, and they're like, this is healthy for them the same way that it probably feels for my husband to walk around a golf course for eight days in a row.
So I think and the fact that we're observing it and we are not having this in our own lives is also what makes it really healthy.
Like, can Totally.
造访。
Visit.
We can go on vacation on drama land.
没错。
Yes.
Have the things really the synapses in our brain really spark up and get excited, but our own lives are boring and miserable.
But I'm literally in bed in the same pajamas that I've worn for the last three days.
Know, that's a really not to, like, take it back to golf, but I'm actually going to use that because it's like, you know yeah.
Why does it take my husband seventeen hours to play golf and I just wanna watch forty five minutes of Housewives?
不。
No.
It's the age old argument that we, as women, most of us, don't have a hobby that takes an entire day.
We do not have we have Housewives episodes that are, like, forty four minutes without commercials.
That's it.
And then if like he happens to walk in in during one episode and ask me a question, it's like, you don't care.
Why did I just pause to explain to you?
Now it's taking an hour and a half for me to watch it and you don't even you you really don't even care.
Is your asks questions.
Like, walking.
很好。
Love it.
Just keep walking.
不。
It's No.
My husband's like, the tone of this, it's I'm like, you're as misogynist because you don't like the tone of women's voices when they're animated.
He's like, it gives me an instant headache.
And I just, you know, it really pisses me off.
So I wish he would be a little more inquisitive about, you know, what people are doing at Housewives.
You say that now.
What so a lot of our listeners, they're either like me obsessed with Bravo or they just they've made it their personality to never watch.
So if they are going to start, what do you like, when people come to you like, okay, what I wanna start Bravo.
Where should I start?
What do you tell them?
I think New York City is just iconic.
Yeah.
I really I feel very strongly.
Maybe I'm biased.
I used to live in New York, and so it has a piece of my heart.
And I feel like New York does such a good job of making the city the act another character similarly to, like, how Sex and the City they used to talk about how that was, like, the fifth girlfriend Yes.
Sex and the City was New York City.
They do that, and it's really nice.
And it's it's also aspirational When right now we're at a time in housewives where it's a lot of smoke and mirrors, there's not so much wealth, there's just a lot of like desperate people.
There's a lot of, you know, rented mansions, which listen, no shade, I don't care what you live in, how you live in it.
But if you're going to be a housewife and exhibit opulence, and you know, aspirational lifestyle, I don't necessarily get it so much anymore the way that I used to from Housewives of New York City.
Yeah.
哇。
Wow.
She said it.
I mean, you're renting and
you're renting,
you're renting.
So when to go kinda back to, like, okay.
You have a one and a half almost two year old wild type.
Almost two year old.
Okay.
Have you noticed?
Because I also have a two year old.
I can't have Bravo on during the day anymore.
Like, she's picking up some terms, and they're not good ones.
不。
No.
That's because you have a girl, and girls are so much smarter than boys.
My son, unless it's an engine roaring or a a an airplane flying or a train Like
a truck.
Yeah.
He's not clocking a a woman in a hair extension.
He does not even notice.
You're lucky because my daughter is like, you know, I'll have it on while I'm like washing dishes and like, I think she's upstairs.
But really Uh-huh.
She's around the corner and she's like, mommy, so pretty.
I'm like, that filler?
She's not pretty.
Are you crazy?
Really getting those dopamine hits.
Yeah.
So Just let her do
That's on me to to change it to Mickey Mouse, but there's only so much clubhouse and bluey I can do.
I I am a TV person now.
I was one of those, we are not gonna watch TV.
Like Really?
She's never gonna watch TV.
And then I got pregnant.
And I said, here's the TV.
Fuck it.
Yeah.
I really went there.
And I tried.
I really tried too.
And I was like, I was strict.
但是当
But when
I was pregnant with my second, I just really threw in the towel, I guess.
That's fine.
It's absolutely fine.
I I I know it's an unhealthy thing to do.
And I use it way too often I abuse it.
I just think about how much how kids in other situations are having it so much worse.
而且
And
我
I
look at my child who has the world catering to him and, you know, opportunities and resources and whatever.
And I'm like, it's alright if this kid watches two hours of TV today.
I it's he's gonna turn out fine.
Honestly, he probably should get a little more fucked up because I think he needs to have a little more scrappy hustle in him.
You know?
Like, sometimes I look at our nanny and I'm like, could you ignore him for five minutes?
Like, he's gonna be some woman's nightmare or men, hopefully.
Someone's nightmare because he believes that what everything he does is extra special.
Like, I'm the parent that will not be at the pool telling my kid every time they jump in that it was awesome.
Like, I I will not do it.
I think I turned out to be a monster because I had parents that did that to me.
Oh, interesting.
Yeah.
How did the how did the showbiz life start for you?
Because, you know, my daughter's running around singing U2 lyrics that she hears off sing to.
No, she's like,
it's like kind
of like my husband and I this morning, she was performing for us every morning, 07:30, performing quite, quite Aggressively?
Ferociously.
And at one point she hit a note And the two of us looked at each other, and we weren't proud.
There was fear in our eyes because we were like, this is gonna go one or two ways.
Yeah.
And I don't know which way I want it to go.
I know.
It's a it's a blessing and a curse.
If she's got the skill set, it's a blessing and a curse.
Mine started with the movie Annie.
So I'm I'm a 1986 baby.
So, like, the movie Annie was, like, big movie musical, and it's a bunch of crazy, loud, young girls, the greatest.
I watched it on loop constantly, speaking of so much TV.
All the time, I was reenacting it, and then I was starting to sing a lot.
And my mom actually has a very good voice.
So, but never used it.
But I think that they just sort of knew that oh you can sing too and you want to start taking voice lessons would you like that and I of course I thought, absolutely I need to be a star because I'm also the second born daughter.
So I was just desperate for Oh, god.
Now I'm really scared because my first born is the star.
And now you have me thinking is the second gonna try and be a star too?
Oh my god.
Is the second a boy or a girl?
It's a girl.
Oh, shit.
Yeah.
Well, my sister denied me so much of my childhood and made me feel like the dirt on the bottom of her shoe that I was like, I'm gonna break out of this house and I'm gonna be a star.
Okay.
So then she, I started taking singing lessons.
I really love dancing.
I love gymnastics.
And my sister was also taking these like acting classes and other things in in the arts.
There was an ad in the newspaper.
I grew up in Atlanta, and it was an ad for the local like Fox Theater in Downtown Atlanta was doing a production of Annie.
Oh, And they were going to cast local orphans.
So my sister brought the newspaper to my mom and was like, look, it's my chance.
And my mom reads it, and the fine print says you can't be over a certain height.
So my sister was a taller child.
I am five three and was like, just, you know, pocket size my whole life.
So my sister was like, well, I can't do I can't do it.
So I just can't audition at all.
And my mom's like, I think that's how it works.
That's why they said you can't be over like four or nine or whatever the light was.
And then my mom was like, you know who could
do Shoot.
She goes, Becca, and she loves Annie, and she's been taking voice lessons.
And so I that was the moment I was 10 years old.
And I was like, hold my purse.
I walked into the audition room, and I have never since then had confidence like I had in that room.
And I just kept singing my way through.
They kept sending girls out.
It was hundreds of girls, and they just kept being like, hey, go out and grab a drink of water, but that was their way of letting you go and telling your parents to take you home.
So my mom's in the waiting room with my sister.
My sister's probably sitting there with, a voodoo doll trying to get me, you know, sabotage my experience.
And I just kept staying, and I kept singing my heart out.
And then they came to the end.
They walked out to my mom, and they said, we found the 10 orphans, and, like, we are casting your daughter to do this show.
I got paid, like, a $100, And that was that was it for me.
I was like, yeah, this is this is the life for me.
And quite literally, the rest is history.
Yeah.
I mean, a lot of lots in the middle, but that was that and I that was the goal.
I wanted to be on Broadway.
I saw my first Broadway show when I was, I don't know, six years old or something, and I just felt like electricity go through my whole body.
And then I I moved to New York City when I was right after high school, and I was determined to get on Broadway.
And that's what I that's what I did.
I mean, was pretty overrated once I got there, but it was fun.
And that's what you did.
And see, that's where me as a mom so I don't have a voice.
I was a dancer.
I'm not an actor, but I can't project onto my daughter.
And I used to because she's the first, so I would sing to her.
I was always singing And and so when she's performing this morning, my husband's like, you did this.
Like, she's got the moves because you put her in the baby Bjorn and would dance to Abba in front of her.
Like, you'd and I'm like, okay, but I don't know if I want this anymore.
Well, I think that children should not unless it's small scale, you know, theater stuff and I'm pretty opinionated about it.
I don't think children should go into the entertainment industry.
I I feel like if it's just not for me, what I've experienced being an adult in the entertainment industry, I don't know how you get out alive.
And we've seen that most people don't.
Completely.
So it's a bad statistic.
Did that change once you became a mom, or have you always felt like, always kind of seen that?
I've always felt that way.
是的。
Yeah.
I just kind of didn't.
I mean, I started work.
I started working on a TV show at 26.
And I still felt like that was too young for me to have that experience.
I mean, I'm grateful I would never change it.
But there were points at that in that experience where I wasn't a fully formed woman yet.
I think that I got all of my body issues from that time.
So up until 26, dancing on Broadway and and all of those things, I felt so confident.
I think I was I I just did.
I felt confident.
I felt great.
I felt really good in my skin.
And then doing a TV show at 26, I was then, I'm the ugliest person I've ever seen.
I'm a troll.
I need plastic surgery.
I need to stop eating.
It was a really fucked up thing that happened, and I was 26.
That's a that's a grown woman.
And why what do you think the element Broadway, you know, just because we were talking Broadway, Broadway versus television?
Like, where do you think that wire switched?
I think Broadway is so, so merit based.
It's almost like an athlete, you have to be able to really sing, dance and act.
There's nobody going in in post production and fixing a note you didn't hit.
There's no, you know, that it's obviously not quite the same.
It's still, you know, sub objective, but subjective, objective.
See, this is this is really
Wrong person.
Objective?
I don't know.
Subjective.
Yeah.
Anyways, I that was my most embarrassing moment I've ever had on a podcast.
But anyways, on Broadway, there it's still art.
So you're like, know, she's, she wasn't my favorite Elphaba and wicked, but it wasn't like she sucked.
没错。
Yeah.
And then in TV, obviously, you have to have some skill, but a lot of it is how pretty somebody is, what their face looks like on a camera.
And and with Broadway, you're a dancer, you're so proud of how strong your body is.
You have to do eight shows a week, so you can't starve yourself.
I mean, I'm sure people can do, but it's just not so much the norm.
And then also, Broadway is a small audience.
There's not people back then when I was doing it, it's a little bigger now.
There's like message boards where people could talk shit about you.
Yeah.
But but TV, I remember I got cast on Glee.
It was a whirlwind.
I was living in New York at the time.
I had a week to move from New York to LA.
I did a press shoot in my new, like, I was a Cheerio on the show, so I had my Cheerios uniform with my high ponytail.
And they put these press releases out.
And it's like the new cast of Glee, you know, here, meet the people.
And I remember, like, within five minutes of that going on the Internet, I saw a comment about how I looked like a 40 year old housewife in a in a cheerleading uniform.
Like, some really nasty thing.
There were so many comments about my body, my face, my voice, my everything.
So you were inundated with all these people's opinions of you where before I was so protected in New York.
It was just a different world.
And, you know, that's so sad because so Natalie, who who I usually is my cohost, she's an actor, and and so she gets a taste of that.
You know, I'm sure she could come on and relate.
But, like, for me, it's like, no.
I'm a consumer.
I'm a viewer.
Like, I'm I love Glee.
Like, I am Yeah.
I do the rewatches.
You know?
I go back, and it's before bed.
And and so it's so sad.
It's it's not just Glee.
It's every I mean, go back and read about Friends.
You know what I mean?
But it's, like, it's so sad when you hear those things because it's like, what?
You know?
Because all of you were young.
You know?
I'm sure all of you dealt with it and you were all young.
Yeah.
And of course, that's so sad.
Although I will say, you know, I have been known to say a thing or two about mister Shoe, but never on his looks.
Oh my god.
He, speaking of Matt Morrison was somebody who I was madly in love with in the Broadway days because he started on Broadway.
Yeah.
And I was in high school and I would go see I think he was in hairspray was what I saw him in.
And I remember being like so horny for Matt Morrison.
And then and then I had to go do Glee with him as an adult.
And I was like, this is so my 16 year old self, her head is exploding, you know?
I just love him.
Oh my god.
That's that's funny.
不。
No.
I mean, I I absolutely love Glee.
Love you on Glee.
Love everyone on Glee.
And I think it was a show I was in college during Glee.
So, like, for me, it was like a me and my roommate type thing.
Like, it really put music not to, like it didn't put music on the map.
But, like, if you go back and watch, there are so many songs and medleys that people can sing along to that these kids probably don't even know the original.
You know what I mean?
And, like so I think for that reason, I'm not a Broadway gal.
Maybe I should have been, but like, oh my god.
I loved the medleys.
Oh my god.
And I loved, like, the theme.
Like, never forget when Britney came on.
Oh god.
That was a great one.
Great one.
That was a wild time.
And Heather Heather Morris is so she's just so talented that she crushed it.
And then we did it she did her Britney episode, and then they did another Britney episode later, like in season four, I wanna say or something.
Anyways yeah.
But it was, yeah, wild times.
Do you I know I've seen, like, a lot of the cast has gone on.
You know, there's podcasts and stuff.
Do you keep in touch with anyone, or is it kind of like, that's a moment of like high school?
It's like, that's a moment of time.
It's kind of like high school where it's like, it's a moment in time, but then I've kept certain people from that moment of time, you know, like, I've stayed really close to a handful.
And then, of course, anytime we see the rest of them, it's like a big warm hug.
Like, it's it really I think at the time, it was such a time in the media where it still is now where it was so exciting to talk about the drama and the blah blah blah whatever.
But really, it was like a big family, and it was so much fun for so many of us.
And and we all kind of feel the same way.
We are all we all have, like, a deep, deep love for each other.
Totally.
I I mean, that that makes sense.
Is there a show that you watch that's not reality?
I'll shift.
Not reality.
是的。
Yeah.
That that you are like you can because, I mean, because the knowledge you have from Glee, it's like, you know what you guys went through.
Is there a show that you're watching that you're like, oh my god, they have it.
Like, that cast has it.
Like, that's it.
Like, you can feel the connection.
Because I'm sure, you know, when we've had reality people on the podcast, they talk about not being able to watch reality because they're like, oh my god.
不行。
No.
So Yeah.
Is it different for you when you're watching scripted series?
Not at all.
I mean, I I I obviously know a little bit how the sausage is made, but every set is different.
Every experience is different.
So I like, there's some moments where I'm like, oh, I can't watch this.
It's just whatever it is cringey for me or what or whatever.
That's mostly just when it's bad performances.
But right now, I fell into the suits.
哦。
Oh.
For the first For
the first time.
哦。
Oh.
And I love it so much.
I am You season five right now, and I am so I'm mourning the end already.
Like, I don't want it to end, but I don't wanna stop watching.
So it's a double edged sword.
You just got lit up.
Lit up.
And I am such I am such a fan of the show.
I'm I love every single person on the show.
Same.
I can't get enough.
My husband is such a snob with TV normally.
We'll put something on that is critically acclaimed, right?
Like the morning show.
The first season of the morning show to me was TV magic.
Watched it three times.
It's so good.
Right?
And my husband after four episodes of something like that will be like, I'm just sort of like not into it anymore.
I just can't be into it anymore.
Which is weird.
But with suits, we sit we watch it before bed, in bed.
Uh-huh.
And he cannot go to sleep because he gets so excited and, like, amped up about the episodes, which is so weird.
I don't know if I mean, I'm not on TikTok.
So I don't know if this is a TikTok thing, but, like, why is everyone so why why are we doing a rewatch now?
Is it, like, at the Meghan Markle of it all?
Like, all of a sudden and I'm loving it.
It's back on Netflix.
Like, I watched it at the time originally loved.
我是说
I mean
Which is so you're a real TV fan.
But a real odd I'm trying to remember, and I'm sure whoever needs the shout out is not gonna get it because I don't know who told me to watch, and I don't know why I started.
But 2012, my boy my husband, but boyfriend at the time, we're we're tuning on we are throwing on the USA Network, and we're watching it at night.
And we we were obsessed.
And Harvey, I mean, listen.
There's not many men who make me question it all, but he's one of them.
I know.
Yeah.
I can't believe it.
And I hate actors.
Like Yeah.
I there's nothing.
I never I have had this with one other character.
Because here's the thing.
It's Harvey as Harvey that I'm with.
I know if I met Gabriel Gabriel, that I'd be like, oh, whatever.
He's an actor, like good for you.
You're attractive, whatever.
But it's that role.
If that fictional character came to life, the only other person I feel this way about is Killian Murphy in Peaky Blinders.
I was like,
I didn't watch.
是Natalie看的。
Natalie did.
I was gonna say the
only other person I've ever felt that way about is president Fitzgerald from Scandal.
Oh, yes.
没错。
Yes.
确实。
Yes.
You know, he really he but he is somebody who Tony Goldwyn, that no matter what role he's playing, I feel that way about.
Like, even remember he was in Ghost?
Yeah.
Like, no.
I don't remember.
But then that that happened.
And I saw him at Soho Malibu one time.
And I just was like, why is no one excited?
Why are we not amped up?
Like, does nobody know that that's Fitz?
And he was just like he looks like a dad, honestly.
Like, he's just like
He's hot dad.
Wearing his tucked in shirt.
And I'm just sitting there, like, eating my chocolate chip cookie, not able to breathe.
But suits don't love that.
I love suits.
Yeah.
不是。
No.
It's yeah.
It's so great.
I and I love Meghan Markle Meghan Markle in suits.
I just think she's I actually am getting this is me absolutely projecting because I can't not.
I will never forget when everyone was making fun of her when she started dating Prince Harry.
And they were making it this thing where it's like, oh, she's like the seventh person on the call sheet on a show on the USA Network.
Like, basically being like, she's a poor man's, you know Yeah.
Whatever.
And as somebody who's been, like, number 77 on a call sheet
Yeah.
I take offense to that.
It's still an accomplishment.
没错。
Yes.
And I think it's really they did not give her enough credit.
She was the star one of the stars of a very great show.
So I am so curious because I watched it at the time.
So then when it came out, she's dating him, I'm like, oh, my girl.
Like, I know you're crap.
And now, you know, and then, you know, everybody feels the type of way.
They love her or they hate her.
And then it was this little dinky show.
But now that it's a thing again, I'm like, let's run it back.
Let's do the opening again.
Let's go for round two because now you got people on your side, I think, because it's think so too.
Like, people are loving suits, and I love that for them.
好的。
Okay.
Now you have to go down the rabbit hole.
That is the wedding.
They all were there.
They all were on the bus together singing going to the chapel and gonna get married.
Why can't think of, like Wait.
What wedding?
The the Megan's wedding.
The Roy.
The wedding.
哦。
Oh.
哦。
Oh.
哦。
Oh.
是的。
Yes.
Because they were all there.
She filmed.
So as she was dating him, she was wrapping up her last season.
So they, like, you know so Mhmm.
There there was a little crossover where it's like, the girlfriend is still filming, you know, because they film in Toronto.
And so not me, like, being a professional at Suits.
Like, they film in Toronto.
就是,
Like, it's
a big deal.
Well, everyone knows that's where she was living when they met, which is why everybody thought she was Canadian for a while.
是的。
Yes.
没错。
Yes.
So oh, you have to go down the rabbit hole.
Like, they were all there.
It's like so cute.
They were all so excited.
I know.
And that, you know, I think that that's well, no, that's stupid.
I was gonna say it speaks volumes of like, her as a cast member.
But then I'm like, no, if somebody I absolutely fucking hated on Glee was getting married to a prince, I I would go to the wedding.
Like she didn't ever do that, but she had the cast.
She had the cast.
But I do know she's super close with Abigail Spencer.
Like, they're
是的。
Yes.
They're genuinely, like, best friends.
I love her.
And I think Abigail is one of the most beautiful women on women on planet Earth.
She's so stunning.
不。
No.
Whoever like, it really didn't give it not only does it have a phenomenal intro song, like phenomenal.
It didn't get enough cover for like stunning the cast is.
Yeah.
没错。
Yeah.
I'm right now I mean, I can't believe don't ruin it for me.
But if Donna and Harvey don't end up together, like, I'm so I'm now so invested that it is it's it's taking over my every moment of every day.
Yeah.
So you said that's what you're watching before bed.
That was a question I was gonna ask.
Like, what is a before bed show?
That's a good one.
Mhmm.
You should do it again.
Take another round.
Honestly, I might take another round.
I I would easily like, that's something I would easily take another round.
I get comfort in like rewatching shows.
I'm not like trying to venture out.
Yeah, I well, I need a long time between the rewatching of shows.
But I do enjoy and I think that's why people enjoy suits is because there's a comfort in knowing that every episode is kind of gonna be it's a little bit like a what you've got procedural, but a little more exciting than that.
But that's why people like I like to know what I'm getting.
I like to know the characters that I'm going to see every week.
And I think TV is going back to that, which I really appreciate.
I we have so much shit going on in the world that I don't need to watch what was the stupid, not stupid.
It was also very critically critically acclaimed.
But I was like, if you think for one second, my nervous system can watch The Last of Us,
fuck right off.
I didn't even try.
Like, I I no.
不。
No.
I I that is I don't do that.
I do the fun, light, silly stuff, although I am watching The Crown because I'm a royal, like, not just, like, Harry.
Like, I just love royal shit.
Yeah.
And so that is real heavy right now because it's Diana's
Oh, really?
对。
Yeah.
We're on we're on, like so that's heavy.
But no.
I don't do heavy things.
I don't need any like, I'm the same.
It's like, what?
Like, I'm not I'm not tuning in to watch people in masks.
I lived it.
I did it.
不。
No.
I know.
I don't need my blood blood pressure raised when I'm watching TV.
It makes me upset.
And honestly, that might come with becoming a mom because
I think so.
I I I really think that since I became a mom, I'm like, oh, that girl it's a story about a girl who gets murdered.
I'm good.
Yeah.
Everyone's like, Euphoria is so amazing.
I'm like, no.
Thank you.
不。
Nope.
I'm already scared of Gen Z.
I'm already scared of whatever generation alpha, whatever my son is gonna be.
I don't want to know No.
These these things.
I'm the same.
I like to live in La La Land because there you're like you said, the world the world is already scary.
I mean, we kinda just talked another question I was gonna ask you, is there a show that has gone viral that you're just like, don't get it?
But, I mean, I feel like Euphoria, you kinda just
Yeah.
Euphoria, The Last of Us, like anything that's like super heavy, what I just I'm not in a phase of my life.
Maybe at some point, I will go back because I I really love watching performances like that as an actor.
It's so impressive.
And I but I just it's like I need a my other podcast host, Kelty, she always says her brain she has a brain diet.
So she, like, can't expose her brain to true crime, anything that's gonna make her anxious.
And I think I'm on a brain diet right now too.
I will call it a life diet because like I can't do anything that's like I we had to what did Natalie make me watch?
Like the Murdaugh murders and I'm like crying in the fetal position.
It's horrible.
It's horrible.
I do occasionally dip my toe into that world.
I but I don't understand the women who can live in that true crime universe.
It makes me it it just makes me sad.
Yeah.
What was that show?
Not me.
What was the show?
Kaylee Cuoco.
It was on Peacock.
Oh, yes.
Where she played the podcast host.
是的。
Yes.
I didn't see it.
I it was it good?
It was good.
It was funny.
As it's funny podcasting wise.
It's just funny.
Also very interesting to see, not the first time we've seen podcasting come alive Oh, yeah.
On our screen.
I will say I am a Only Murders fanatic.
哦。
Oh.
Steve Martin, Arton Short.
Need to do it.
I need to do it.
I don't have enough time, but that is on the I'm like, I know I'm going to love this.
You are the Broadway gal, and you is gonna love it.
Like, I absolutely people are pulling over, and they're turning it off because I can't stop talking about it every year, every season.
It's just something about and and I mean, what I was gonna say is, like, it's interesting to see podcasting on television because it's a new ish thing that we're And so for that, I mean, Tina Fey plays, a really funny part.
Like, you'll just like
我爱
I love
It's it's it's very good.
But I don't oh, where I was going is that the true crime people, yeah, they scare me.
Mhmm.
But also, like, what a life to live to not be scared by all those scary things.
I know.
By the other host of The Lady Gang, it's the three of us, Jack.
She has another podcast, The First Degree, which is all true crime.
So her work is true crime, and then she'll go home and watch hours and hours of true crime on television.
And I'm like, if I did that, I would be afraid to go into my laundry room with
I already laid off.
I am so crazy.
I'm like, why are we getting aroused at the thought of being raped and murdered?
I'm confused.
And Natalie Natalie is the same.
She's like, oh, I've had a really stressful day.
Like, I just need to take a bath and, like, turn on Dateline.
I said, Dateline could never be Ty, my husband as a joke is like, I'm gonna throw on Dateline because if he puts it on for two seconds, I panic.
I I I get the you.
Because it's always the husband.
It's always just spouse.
Like, no.
And so, yeah, my brain no, my brain doesn't work like that.
I need a bubble bath in like maybe a Mary Kate and Ashley movie.
Oh, god.
I was obsessed.
Are you kidding me?
It Takes Oh, my god.
Yeah.
I was obsessed.
Okay.
I I I have totally wow.
I just, like, covered so much in, like, such a small amount
of We've really we've solved all I mean, anyone listening is they're driving off the side of the road
because they can't They're excited because I feel like your energy matches my energy and, like, you have the mom brain where it's like, you can go from one thing to another.
It's like Oh, yeah.
You don't need a road map.
I'm not linear.
I lost that capability after my son was born.
I actually had a little bit of a meltdown after my son was born, and I had a surrogate carry my son.
And so I never I never I've been pregnant unsuccessfully a few times, so I experienced a little bit of pregnancy, But I didn't have the hormonal thing.
I didn't deliver him.
I didn't none of those things.
But I still had whatever that brain damage is that you get the year after a new child is brought into the world that you're trying to keep alive?
I mean, the ups and downs, the no sleep, the the the all of it.
It's it's the craziest.
And now that you're, like, like, into year two, it's just so crazy.
Like, don't you already forget the first year?
Yeah.
没错。
Yeah.
I do.
I mean, I don't forget that I hated it, but I do forget it.
I don't remember the day to day.
And that's why people are like, that's why you do it again because you, like your body just kinda, like, forgets all the bad things.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I I will say it was so I knew I'm glad that I knew going into it that I was not going to enjoy the newborn phase.
I have been I'm 800 years old.
I at this point everyone I know including like girls I've babysat for as a child had children before me.
So I'm like, the jig is up.
Newborns are not fun.
There's nothing I am not the mom, and I some of my friends really are.
They're like, I wanna hold a newborn all day and smell it and feed it.
And like they are it is like a spa experience
。
to them.
That is a very specific type of person.
Yeah.
For the most part, I think most women are like, let's get this first year over with.
Let's just let's get it.
I mean, there's sweet moments in it.
It's so hard.
Even now, it's so hard.
Even now with my son who's almost two, he's a pain in my ass.
He's such a jerk to me 90% of the time.
I love this so much more than the first year.
The first year is just your battle.
I mean, like you said, whether you're you however you get your child, it don't matter.
Okay?
Big responsibility.
You are just your life has changed.
Your everything your marriage is changing.
Everything you thought you knew, out the window gone goodbye.
And it's like, no sleep, man.
I'm I'm not telling you, like, my daughter my second is six months old.
And the no sleep is just wild.
Are you still doing the no sleep?
She's waking up once a night, which I can't complain, but I just don't understand why we can't just gun it through that first wake up.
Let's just keep it rolling.
Keep sleeping.
But, you know, at the end of the day, you're just kinda like, what's gonna make my life easier?
Yeah.
And it's all the thing that's so nice is it's all temporary.
I am Totally.
I'm grateful that I did have kids this late for a few reasons.
I mean, the one obvious reason that I'm not grateful is that it really wasn't as easy as it should have been if I was a teen mom.
But now that I'm here, I am so grateful that I don't actually overthink a thing.
So everybody's like, when are you gonna take the bottle away?
And I'm like, I feel like it, because I know he's not gonna go to fucking college with a bottle.
Yeah.
Like, there are just things I know he's gonna not gonna keep shitting his pants when everyone at school is using a toilet.
I mean, I hope so.
That's really without even, like, meaning to give advice, that's really good advice to give, like, moms because we get you know, since I've had since this podcast started, I keep having kids.
And so all of a sudden now I'm a mom podcaster, but that's always like, give me advice, give me advice.
And I never have, I never know what to say because I'm like, I can't give you any advice I don't know.
But the one advice that I would piggyback off yours is second time is a do over.
And second time, I kept telling myself nothing lasts forever.
This is permanent.
Whether it's a good phase or a bad phase, it's not permanent.
And so like you just said, not overthinking anything because I'm the same.
