我们要去的可不是普通的集市。

And it is not just any market we visit.

今天我们要去瑞士首都伯尔尼，参观那里最著名的洋葱市场Ziebelemerit——或者用我蹩脚的瑞士德语来说，就是洋葱集市。

Today, we are going to Bern, the capital of Switzerland, and to one of its most famous markets, the Ziebelemerit, or without my poor Swiss German accent, the Onion Market.

每年11月的第四个星期一（也就是我录制这期播客的两周后），瑞士首都伯尔尼就会变成洋葱的海洋。

Every year on the fourth Monday in November, so in about two weeks' time from the moment I'm recording this podcast, the Swiss capital Barren transforms into a sea of onions.

超过五十吨洋葱在此销售。

More than Funfzig, Tonnen, Zvibeen are sold.

这些洋葱被编织成美丽的花环，烤成洋葱馅饼，或是塑造成各种可爱的洋葱造型。

Those onions are arranged into beautiful wreaths, they are baked into zweibelkuchen, onion tarts, or shaped into funny little onion figures.

这一天对伯尔尼至关重要。

Diezer Tag ist Werklich Wichtig for Bern.

对伯尔尼而言，这早已不仅是个集市，更是场关于文化、美食的全民庆典，当然也标志着收获季的结束。

It's way more than just a market now for Bern, and it's more an all out celebration of culture, of food, and of course, the end of the harvesting season.

事实上在整个德语区都能找到类似的秋季集市，比如魏玛就有持续整整三天、汇集众多艺术家表演和丰富活动的洋葱集市。

And in fact, you can find similar markets, similar autumn markets, or even other onion markets all across the German speaking world, like, for example, in Weimar, where there's another Zwebermarkt that lasts three full days and includes many performances from different artists, musicians, and lots and lots of activities.

所以如果你11月恰好在伯尔尼或魏玛附近，千万别错过洋葱集市。

So should you be near either Bern or Weimar during November, make sure you check out the Zwebermarkt.

不过说实话，我至今还没幸运地在那个时候去过这两座城市。

Now, I've actually never been lucky enough to go to either of those cities during this time.

阿贝，维格萨特，11月有很多值得一逛的小型市场。

Abbe, Wiegessagt, there are many smaller markets well worth visiting in November.

还有尼希特弗格森，再过几周第一批圣诞集市也要开门了。

And Nichtfergessen, it's only a few weeks until the first Weihnachtsmerge open their doors as well.

So with all these markets going on and coming up, let's go over some useful phrases and vocabulary you might need on a German speaking market.

我们先从如何询问商品或推荐开始。

Let's start with how to ask for products or recommendations.

我会先用德语说每个句子，然后解释意思，最后再说一遍，留些时间让你跟读。

I'll say each sentence once in German, then talk about the meaning, and then say it one more time, leaving some space afterwards for you to repeat it.

明白吗？

Okay?

这是第一个句子。

Here is the ers desatz.

用英语来说，意思是：你们也有本地特产吗？

So in English, this would mean, do you also have regional products?

如果你想找所在地区的特色商品，无论是美食特产还是想带回家的纪念品，这都是个很好的问题。

And it's a great question if you're looking for something specific to the region where you are in, whether it's some maybe some culinary specialty or maybe something you want to take home as a memory.

另一个稍微类似的句子是：好的。

Another sentence that is slightly similar would be Okay.

我在找一件特别的纪念品。

I am looking for a special souvenir.

你可能之前就听过德语里的“souvenir”这个词。

And you've probably heard the word souvenir in Deutsch before.

不过还有个词叫“mitbrenzel”，我个人更喜欢这个，它由动词“Mitbringen”构成，意思是“带来”，但实际用作“带出”。

However, there is also the word mitbrenzel, which I personally prefer, and it consists of the verb Mitbringen, so to bring along, but it's used as an out.

所以这是你随身携带的东西。

So it's something that you bring with you.

明白了吗？

Okay?

Okay.

有时候问这个问题也很有价值。

Now sometimes it's also worth asking this question.

用英语说就是：您推荐哪个品种或哪种类型？

So in English, which variety or which type do you recommend?

这里我们用正式的‘si’来称呼，因为您是在和市场上的商贩说话。

And we're using the formal si here because you're addressing the salesperson on the market.

我个人认为这是最有用的提问之一，因为摊位卖的东西很专一，通常会有很多不同品种的同类商品，在做出选择前听听专家的建议总是好的。

I personally think it's one of the most useful questions you could ask because stalls sell something very specific, so they often have many different types of varieties of one thing, and then it's always good to know what the expert would recommend before you make your choice.

Perfect.

再说一次，如果你不确定该选什么，这个短语也很实用。

Again, if you are unsure about what choice to make, this is another useful phrase.

好的。

Okay.

这次是个稍长的短语。

A slightly longer phrase this time.

意思是这个奶酪和那个有什么区别，区别就是。

It means what's the difference, so is difference, between this cheese and that one.

当然，你可以用这个短语来指代任何东西，不仅仅是奶酪。

And of course, you can use this phrase for anything, not just cheese.

这些词语简单地指代这里的这个和那边的那个。

And the words and simply refer to this one here and that one over there.

所以你甚至可以省略具体是什么，只用手指指一下，就能了解更多你想买的产品。

So you can even leave out what it is and just use your fingers and pointing, and then you know more about the product you want to buy.

Now these are all phrases helping you to decide what you want to buy.

Now let's have a look at some phrases on how to actually order what you want to buy or add some specific requests.

One for you and one for your loved ones that you're taking home with you.

Of English, I'll take three glasses of mulled wine, but the white one, please.

这句话尤其是结尾的补充很棒，如果你想更具体地说明你想要什么。

This phrase and especially the addition at the end is great if you want to be more specific about what you want.

你只需要在结尾加上具体说明，确保得到你真正喜欢的。

All you need to add at the end is and then add the specification to make sure you get exactly what you like.

就像这个例子，你想要白麦芽酒，所以你说‘好吗？’

Like in this case, you wanted the white malt wine, so you said Okay?

Let's hear the whole phrase one more time, and you can repeat it.

One phrase that is very important if you want to taste all there is on a market.

Can I get a smaller portion?

你可以通过在一开始使用更礼貌的表达方式，比如：我能要小份的吗？

And you can make this freeze more polite by either using at the start, So could I get a smaller portion?

当然，你也可以在这里稍作补充。

Or, of course, you can also add a bit here.

这是个不错的选择，因为市场上有很多可以尝试的东西，而最好的方式就是每样都来一小份。

It's a good freeze because there are so many things you can try on a market, and sometimes the best way to try them all is to have smaller portions of each.

First bit is, is there a bulk discount if I buy several?

So just in case you're buying souvenirs for all the family and you found something that you really like and you're planning to buy at least 20 of them, that might be the question you want to ask.

市场向来是讨价还价的好地方，值得一试。

And markets have always been good places to bargain, so it's always worth giving it a try.
