Speaker 0

好了。

Alright.

Speaker 0

我就不多占用时间了。

I'm not gonna take up any more time.

Speaker 0

让我们直接开始今天的节目吧。

Let's just jump right in to today's episode.

Speaker 1

我即将向各位汇报的事情,无论是作为一个人还是一名警察局长,都让我深感不安。

What I'm about to brief you on is something deeply troubling to me as a human being and as a police chief.

Speaker 1

2021年2月4日,23岁的桑德拉·伯奇莫尔被发现死于她在坎顿的公寓中。

On 02/04/2021, 23 year old Sandra Burchmore was found deceased in her apartment in Canton.

Speaker 1

我今天要讲述的是她的一生,以及她如何被那些她直到生命最后时刻仍崇拜信任的权威人士辜负、操纵和利用。

What I am here to talk about today is her life and how she was failed by, manipulated by, and used by people of authority that she admired and trusted right up until her final days.

Speaker 1

伯奇莫尔

Ms.

Speaker 1

女士自幼就是个脆弱的人,她生命中只有一个不变的支柱。

Birchmore was a vulnerable person who had one constant in her life since childhood.

Speaker 1

那就是她对警察、军人、穿制服者——那些宣誓保护与服务民众者的坚定崇拜。

Her unwavering admiration of police officers, of those serving the military, people in uniform, people with oaths and duties to protect and serve.

Speaker 1

这种崇拜导致她与一些企图利用她的男性建立了关系。

The admiration led her to form relationships with men who were willing to take advantage of her.

Speaker 1

今天我以一名心碎而愤怒的公仆身份站在这里,对所发生的一切感到痛心疾首,并郑重宣告斯托顿警察局和斯托顿镇的这一黑暗篇章已经终结。

I stand before you today as a civil servant who is heartbroken and incensed by what has transpired and who pledges that this chapter in the Stoughton Police Department and the town of Stoughton is over.

Speaker 1

这种事情绝不能再发生。

It must never repeat.

Speaker 1

这种恶性循环必须终止。

The revolving door is closed.

Speaker 0

我们报道过太多涉及腐败、掩盖真相,或是纯粹的无能与渎职的故事,有时让我对整个系统彻底失去信心。

There are so many stories we tell that involve corruption, cover ups, or just downright incompetence or negligence that it makes me sometimes lose complete faith in the system.

Speaker 0

这个本该保护我们的系统。

A system that is put in place to protect us.

Speaker 0

做这档节目这么久以来,我看到的黑暗面远多于光明。

And doing this show for as long as I have, I have seen a lot more bad than good.

Speaker 0

我是说,这些问题都是系统性的。

I mean, the problems are systemic.

Speaker 0

有时候我会忍不住想:这一切有什么意义?

And at times, I've caught myself thinking, what is the point?

Speaker 0

就像...我们还不如放弃算了,因为问题如此严重且根深蒂固,或许我才是那个自欺欺人的人。

Like, we might as well just give up because the problems are so big and have been there for so long that maybe I'm the delusional one.

Speaker 0

这就是世界的本质,邪恶。

And this is just how the world is, evil.

Speaker 0

邪恶根深蒂固,我们永远无法战胜或改变什么。

And the evil is so deeply rooted that we are never gonna win or make a difference.

Speaker 0

但就在我最需要的时候,我总能瞥见那些善良的人。

But then when I often need it the most, I get a glimpse of the good ones.

Speaker 0

那些从内部努力让一切变得更美好、更公平、更公正的人。

The people who are fighting from the inside to make things better and fair and just.

Speaker 0

那些坚信是非对错,明白法律面前人人平等的人。

People who believe in right and wrong and know that no one is above the law.

Speaker 0

正是这些人重新给了我继续抗争的希望。

And those people give me hope all over again to keep fighting myself.

Speaker 0

在报道今天这个故事时,所有这些情绪我都体会到了。

And I felt all of those feelings when covering today's story.

Speaker 0

令人绝望的是,整个机构竟然能在掌握大量证据的情况下视而不见——这些证据表明一名穿制服的警察可能为维护声誉杀害了年轻女性。

Despair that an entire agency could look the other way when so much evidence was at their fingertips suggesting a boy in blue might have killed a young woman to protect his reputation.

Speaker 0

然后这股斗志让我想要大干一场,支持那些正义之士。

And then this fire to kick ass and take names and get behind the other people.

Speaker 0

比如你刚在节目开头听到的斯托顿警察局局长唐娜·麦克纳马拉。

People like Donna McNamara, the chief of the Stoughton Police Department who you just heard at the top.

Speaker 0

她并没有袖手旁观放任不管。

She didn't just sit back and let it be.

Speaker 0

她用自己的方式揭露真相,并点燃了星火,其他秉持正义的好人将这团火越扇越旺,最终为桑德拉·伯奇摩尔讨回了公道。

She found her own way to expose the truth and she lit a spark that other good people out there doing the right thing fanned into a flame to get justice for Sandra Burchmore.

Speaker 0

让我来告诉你事情的经过。

So let me tell you how that happened.

Speaker 0

2123年2月,23岁的桑德拉·伯奇摩尔被发现死于马萨诸塞州坎顿市的公寓中。

February 2123 year old Sandra Burchmore was found dead in her Canton, Massachusetts apartment.

Speaker 0

警方接到她工作学校的福利检查请求后发现了她的尸体——因为她已连续多日未到校。

Police discovered her body while responding to a welfare check requested by someone at the school where she worked because she hadn't shown up in days.

Speaker 0

当时桑德拉呈坐姿靠在卧室衣柜旁,运动包背带紧紧缠绕在她颈部,另一端固定在衣柜门把手上。

Now Sandra was found in a seated position on the floor by her bedroom closet with this duffle bag strap wrapped tightly around her neck and fixed to the handle of the closet door.

Speaker 0

马萨诸塞州警方没有发现她公寓有强行闯入的痕迹。

The Massachusetts state police didn't note any signs of forced entry to her apartment.

Speaker 0

门实际上是锁着的,他们不得不从物业经理那里拿到钥匙才能进入。

The door was actually locked and they had to get a key from the property manager just to get in.

Speaker 0

进入公寓后,他们在卧室或公寓其他地方都没有发现任何打斗迹象。

And once they were inside, they didn't see any signs of a struggle at all in the bedroom or anywhere else in the apartment.

Speaker 0

墙上没有任何凹痕或擦痕,地板上也没有拖拽痕迹之类的东西,尽管公寓里堆满了为桑德拉怀孕8到10周的孩子准备的婴儿用品,都还装在箱子里。

The walls didn't have any indentations or scuff marks, and there were no drag marks on the floor or anything like that, even though the apartment was cluttered with baby items still in boxes for the child that Sandra was eight to ten weeks pregnant with.

Speaker 0

看起来没有任何东西被碰倒或移动过。

Nothing seemed to be knocked over or moved.

Speaker 0

公寓大厅的监控录像显示桑德拉在2月1日星期一来去都是独自一人,这是她最后一次出现在镜头里,也是官方认为她去世的日子。

And surveillance footage from her apartment complex's lobby shows Sandra coming and going alone on Monday, February 1, which is the last day she appears on camera and the day that officials believe she died.

Speaker 0

因此很快就得出了自杀的结论。

So the suicide determination came quickly.

Speaker 0

甚至在法医正式裁决之前,所有坎顿警局的报告都将此案作为自杀案件讨论。

Even before the medical examiner's official ruling, all the Canton PD reports discussed this case as a suicide.

Speaker 0

马萨诸塞州警方似乎也认同这一结论。

And the Massachusetts state police seem to agree.

Speaker 0

因为我确信,随着他们对桑德拉了解的深入,这些信息只会进一步证实他们的理论,因为她从小就生活艰难。

Because I'm sure the more they learned about Sandra, like, it just began to confirm their theory because she grew up struggling.

Speaker 0

父亲从未出现在她的生活中。

Dad wasn't in the picture.

Speaker 0

母亲长期受健康问题困扰,经常无法工作,因此她们家总是入不敷出。

Mom had chronic health challenges, oftentimes not being able to work, so they struggled to make ends meet.

Speaker 0

从很小的时候起,桑德拉就承担起了照顾者的角色。

And from a young age, Sandra sort of took on the role of caretaker.

Speaker 0

然后在2016年,年仅19岁的桑德拉遭遇了母亲中风离世的打击。

And then in 2016, when Sandra was just 19 years old, her mom died of a stroke.

Speaker 0

仅仅几周后,她的祖母也相继去世。

And then just weeks later, her grandmother passed away too.

Speaker 0

据《波士顿环球报》一篇报道中未具名的消息来源透露,在接连遭遇这些悲剧后,桑德拉开始在日记中表露自杀念头。

According to an unnamed source in a Boston Globe article, after these back to back tragedies, Sandra began expressing suicidal thoughts in her journal entries.

Speaker 0

之后她尝试和其他家庭成员同住,但始终没能拥有一个稳定的家。

And she tried living with other family members after this, but she never really had that stable home base.

Speaker 0

在她去世前大约八九个月,曾发生过一次冲突——桑德拉与当时同住的家人发生争执后愤然离去。

And there was an instance like eight or nine months before her death where Sandra got in a fight with the family member that she was living with and stormed out.

Speaker 0

那位家人因担心桑德拉可能自残而拨打了911报警。

That person called 911 concerned that Sandra might be at risk of hurting herself.

Speaker 0

死亡时她已怀孕两个半月,调查人员很快发现孩子是一名已婚男子的。

Now at the time of her death, she was about two and a half months pregnant with what investigators would quickly find out was a married man's baby.

Speaker 0

这一切对她来说实在太过沉重了。

So it must have all just been too much.

Speaker 0

真令人心碎。

How sad.

Speaker 0

当首席法医办公室的病理学家认同并判定此案为自杀时,事情本该就此了结。

And when a pathologist from the office of the chief medical examiner agrees and rules this case a suicide, that's that.

Speaker 0

在另一个时空里故事或许会就此终结,但这次不同,这次没有。

And there is a world where it would have ended right there, but not this one, not this time.

Speaker 0

要知道,虽然最初接到报警的是坎顿警局,后来马萨诸塞州警也接手了此案,但斯托顿警察局在桑德拉被发现后的第二天就启动了内部事务调查。

You see, even though Canton PD was the agency originally called and Massachusetts State Police eventually took over, the Stoughton Police Department opened internal affairs investigation the day after Sandra was found.

Speaker 2

斯托顿和这些事有什么关系?

And where in relation to all this is Stoughton?

Speaker 0

这里离坎顿就隔了一个镇,但他们被牵扯进来的原因是据称桑德拉孩子的父亲是他们的人。

This is just a town over from Canton, but the reason they're in the mix is because of who Sandra's baby daddy allegedly was.

Speaker 0

听好了,局长唐娜·麦克纳马拉从马萨诸塞州警那里得知,她手下有位叫马修·法威尔的警官可能与桑德拉有染,这违反了部门规定。

You see, chief Donna McNamara heard from the Massachusetts state police that one of her officers, a man named Matthew Farwell, may have been having an affair with Sandra, and that would have violated department policies.

Speaker 0

因为——且不说他已婚有孩子——马修·法威尔是负责警方少年探索者项目的警官,而桑德拉年轻时参加过这个项目。

Because, I mean, put him married with kids aside, Matthew Farwell was an officer who worked with their police explorers program, and Sandra in her youth was an explorer.

Speaker 0

伯特,我知道你了解这个项目,因为我们在直播节目里提到过。

And, Bert, I know you know all about the program because it came up in our live show.

Speaker 0

不过考虑到新听众,要不要给他们简单介绍一下?

But for the newbies out there, do wanna give them the lowdown?

Speaker 2

好啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

这只会讲个大概。

This will be very surface level.

Speaker 2

但探索者计划基本上是由当地执法机构运营的课外活动项目。嗯。

But the explorers program is basically like this extracurricular program run by local law enforcement agencies Mhmm.

Speaker 2

面向的人群范围很广,从六年级到20岁的青少年都可以参加。

That's open to anyone from what they'd rate and those were, like, sixth grade to 20 year olds.

Speaker 2

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

都是些未来有志于加入执法部门的孩子。

And it's kids who are interested in joining law enforcement one day.

Speaker 1

嗯。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

就像个少年警察学院。

It's like a junior police academy.

Speaker 2

他们会穿小制服,学习调查知识,还能跟车巡逻。

They wear little uniforms, learn about investigations, do ride alongs.

Speaker 2

显然,有时会搜寻证据。

Apparently, sometimes search for evidence.

Speaker 2

整个项目都是这样。

The whole thing.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

通常,这个项目由当地警局的现役警官负责领导。

Usually, the program is led by, like, actual officers from the local department.

Speaker 2

报名的孩子们会和他们变得非常亲近,这在某些情况下可能是件好事,但也可能非常危险。

The kids who sign up get really close to them, which can be a really great thing in some cases, potentially really dangerous.

Speaker 0

你说得对。

You are correct.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

所以我刚才想问州警是否知道这事,但既然是他们通知斯托顿警长的,那他们肯定知情。

So I was about to ask if the state police knew about this, but if they're the ones who told the chief in Stoughton, then they had to have.

Speaker 0

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 0

他们确实知道

They did.

Speaker 0

而且他们也在调查这件事

And they were looking into it too.

Speaker 0

尽管许多文件都将桑德拉的死亡记录为自杀,但他们似乎仍在做一些基础工作,比如核对各项信息,确保没有遗漏重要线索,比如与一名已婚警官的婚外情

Despite many files that refer to Sandra's death as a suicide, it does seem like they were still doing some legwork, like checking boxes, making sure they didn't miss anything big like the affair with a married officer.

Speaker 0

他们甚至找他谈了话,收集了他和桑德拉的手机数据

They even talked to him, collected his and Sandra's phone data.

Speaker 0

在他们2月6日(不知为何选在学校停车场)对他的问询中,马修承认当晚确实去过桑德拉的公寓

And in their interview with him, which takes place on February 6 in a school parking lot for some reason, Matthew admits that he was at Sandra's apartment that night.

Speaker 2

我很抱歉

I'm sorry.

Speaker 0

什么?

What?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

还记得那个显示她公寓大厅情况的监控视频吗?

So remember the surveillance video that showed her apartment lobby ready?

Speaker 0

她进进出出。

She's coming going.

Speaker 2

她是独自进进出出。

She's coming going by herself.

Speaker 2

嗯。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

其实视频不只拍到她进进出出。

Well, it didn't just show her coming and going.

Speaker 0

顺便提一下,监控录像被发现存在13分钟的时间偏差。

And just a quick FYI, the footage was found to be thirteen minutes off.

Speaker 0

所以我接下来告诉你的时间都经过准确性调整。

So the times I'm gonna be telling you have been adjusted for accuracy.

Speaker 0

但基本上,桑德拉因为学校在第一天因雪停课而提前回家。

But basically, Sandra gets home early from school because they had closed for a snow day on the first.

Speaker 0

几小时后,下午5点后,监控再次拍到她取外卖。

A few hours later, after 5PM, she's caught on camera again picking up a food delivery.

Speaker 0

然后在下午5点31分,她最后一次被看见短暂出门清扫车上的积雪,随后返回楼上。

And then at 05:31PM, she's seen one last time stepping outside briefly to brush the snow off her car and then heading back upstairs.

Speaker 0

这就是桑德拉的全部行踪。

And that's it for Sandra.

Speaker 0

但他们确实查看了剩余录像,看是否有其他可疑人员。

But they did look at the rest of the footage to see if there was anyone else suspicious on it.

Speaker 0

公寓的维修主管告诉警官,那晚除了一个人外,他认识所有进入大厅的人——那是个高大魁梧的男子,穿着靴子、牛仔裤、带兜帽的黑色夹克,以及看似遮住整张脸的防疫口罩。

And the maintenance supervisor at the apartment building tells officers that he recognizes everybody who enters the lobby that night except for one person, a tall burly man wearing boots, jeans, a black jacket with a hood up, and what looks like a COVID mask, which almost entirely covers his face.

Speaker 0

该男子于晚上9点14分进入大楼,9点43分离开。

Now he entered the building at 09:14PM and then left at 09:43.

Speaker 0

警方报告指出,这名男子没戴手套,且似乎是白人。

And the police report notes that the man wasn't wearing gloves and appeared to be white.

Speaker 2

那就是马修吗?

And that's Matthew?

Speaker 0

我是说,我们现在知道有马修这个人,因为他在6号向警方自首了。

I mean, we know now that there was Matthew because he is admitting it to police on the sixth.

Speaker 0

但在当时,很难判断他们知道什么,因为这部分警方报告被大量编辑过。

But at the time, it's a little hard to tell what they knew because this part of the police report is pretty heavily redacted.

Speaker 0

我只知道有位大楼工作人员说他们以前见过这个人和桑德拉在一起,但他们不知道他是谁。

All I know is that one of the building workers says that they had seen this guy with Sandra before, but they didn't know who he was.

Speaker 0

然后租赁经理开始给他们提供一些信息,关于桑德拉曾经交往过的一名警察,以及他对某些事情不满让桑德拉感到紧张。

And the leasing manager starts giving them at that point some information about a police officer that Sandra had been in a relationship with and how there was something that he was unhappy about that Sandra was nervous about.

Speaker 0

但说实话,由于文件被大量编辑,几乎不可能理解这个人的陈述。

But honestly, it truly is almost impossible to make sense of this person's account with all of the redactions to the file.

Speaker 2

对。

Right.

Speaker 2

你基本上只能勉强把一些线索连起来。

You're kind of just like barely able to kind of almost connect dots.

Speaker 2

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

所以他们可能起了疑心。

So they were probably suspicious.

Speaker 0

但现在他们,呃,不。

But now they, like, no.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

就是他。

It was him.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

而他的说法似乎再次印证了他们最初的假设,因为他声称是在探索者计划中认识的桑德拉。

And his story seems to again confirm their original hypothesis because he says that he met Sandra in the explorer program.

Speaker 0

她加入时才13岁。

She was 13 when she joined.

Speaker 0

他当时24岁。

He was 24.

Speaker 0

但他声称没有发生任何不当行为。

But he says that, like, nothing untoward happened.

Speaker 0

马修表示他知道桑德拉生活不顺,为她感到难过,所以这些年来一直关注着她的情况。

Matthew says that he knew Sandra had a troubled life and he felt bad for her, so he would, like, keep tabs on her over the years.

Speaker 0

但据他所说,两人直到2020年初才发生性关系,那时桑德拉应该已经21岁了。

But according to him, the relationship didn't become sexual until early twenty twenty when Sandra would have been 21.

Speaker 0

他说这一切的发生只是因为某晚他喝醉了,然后'碰巧遇到她并发生了关系'。

And that only happened because he says he got drunk one night and quote, ended up meeting up with her and having sex.

Speaker 0

然后他说在那之后他们又发生过两三次关系,最后一次是在2020年10月。

And then he says that they had sex two or three more times after that with the last time being in October 2020.

Speaker 2

那么他是否说过他们当时是在约会?

So does he say that they were, like, dating?

Speaker 2

他是如何定义这段关系的?

Like, how did he classify the relationship?

Speaker 2

他们是在一起的吗?

Were they together?

Speaker 2

就是说,他们曾经是那种关系吗?

Like, had they been?

Speaker 0

嗯,就像我说的,他那时已婚还有两个孩子。

Well, so like I said, so he's married with two kids at that time.

Speaker 0

所以至少在他这边,这绝对不是公开的恋爱关系。

So at least on his end, this was very much not a public, like, relationship situation.

Speaker 0

但他接着说道,2020年12月桑德拉告诉他她怀孕了,并声称他就是孩子的父亲。

But he goes on to say that in December 2020, Sandra told him that she was pregnant and that he was the father.

Speaker 0

马修在采访中表示这根本不可能,时间线完全对不上,并坚决否认自己是桑德拉腹中胎儿的父亲。

Now in his interview, Matthew says that that wasn't possible and that the timeline didn't make any sense and just basically adamantly denies that he was the father of Sandra's unborn child.

Speaker 2

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 2

那就直说吧,马修。

So then cut to the chase, Matthew.

Speaker 2

她去世那天你为什么会在她的公寓里?

Why are you at her apartment the day she died?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

他说那天晚上他询问桑德拉能否过去,因为他想彻底结束两人之间的关系。

So he says that that night he asked Sandra if he could come over because he wanted to end things with her once and for all.

Speaker 0

他表示已经大约一周没见过她,因为他一直试图保持距离,但那是在他得知桑德拉开始对外宣称他是孩子父亲之前。

He says that he hadn't seen her in about a week because he'd been trying to distance himself, but that was before he learned that Sandra was now telling people that he was the father of her child.

Speaker 0

于是当晚他去了,并告诉桑德拉原话是'她疯了',根据她提供的时间线他绝不可能是孩子的父亲,并表示自己与她彻底结束了。

So he went over that night and said that he told Sandra, quote, she was crazy and that there was no way he could be the father of her baby based on her timeline and that he was just done with her.

Speaker 0

他说两人当时发生了相当激烈的争执,虽然没有吼叫或肢体冲突,但气氛非常紧张。

He said that the two of them kinda got into this pretty nasty argument, not anything like yelling or physical, but just like really tense.

Speaker 0

临走前他告诉她这次真的结束了,并会全面拉黑她——他也确实这么做了。

And before he left, he told her it was really over and he was blocking her on everything, which he did.

Speaker 0

马修表示桑德拉当时显然很沮丧,但并没有说过任何想要伤害自己的话。

And Matthew says Sandra was definitely upset, but that she didn't say anything about wanting to hurt herself.

Speaker 0

他向警方表示,当他离开时,桑德拉还活生生地站在厨房里。

And he told police that she was very much alive and standing in the kitchen when he walked out.

Speaker 0

现在警方要求他接受测谎和DNA检测,大概是为了验证他关于视频的说法。但这些最终都没能进行,因为马修请了律师介入。

Now they asked him to take a polygraph and submit to a DNA test, presumably to verify his claim about the video But being none of those things end up happening because Matthew gets an attorney who steps in.

Speaker 0

这位名叫帕特里克·汉利的律师实际上给州警中士写了封信,称这些要求对调查一名证人毫无意义——州警此前声称马修只是证人。

And this attorney, Patrick Hanley, actually writes a letter to an MSP sergeant saying that these requests don't make any sense for the investigation of a witness, which is what MSP had said Matthew was.

Speaker 0

我这里确实有帕特里克的原文。

I actually have a quote from Patrick.

Speaker 0

信中写道:'我建议我的客户拒绝这些要求及随附的进一步访谈请求。'

It says, I advise my client to decline these requests and the request for further interview that accompanied them.

Speaker 0

'我这么做是因为这些要求远远超出对调查中普通证人的常规处理。'

I did so because they are far outside the norm for mere witnesses in an investigation.

Speaker 0

'我曾担任检察官十四年,参与过数百次与您这样的州警侦探的访谈。'

I was a prosecutor for fourteen years and participated in hundreds of interviews with state police detectives like yourself.

Speaker 0

'我不记得有哪次调查会要求证人接受测谎。'

I cannot recall one seeking a polygraph interview.

Speaker 0

我只记得曾要求过那些调查人员和我都认为是目标对象的人提供DNA。

And I can only recall seeking DNA of persons that the investigators and I considered targets.

Speaker 0

法威尔先生已经提供了高度私人的信息。

Mister Farwell has already provided highly personal information.

Speaker 0

在我看来,提供DNA样本的要求实在过分,引用结束。

In my opinion, providing DNA is a step too far, end quote.

Speaker 0

律师还强调马修与桑德拉的死亡毫无关系,他从未鼓励她自残或认为她可能有此倾向。

The lawyer also underscores that Matthew had nothing to do with Sandra's death, that he never encouraged her to harm herself or believed that she might.

Speaker 0

据他所述,桑德拉的自杀对马修来说完全是晴天霹雳。

And according to him, Sandra's death by suicide was a complete shock to Matthew.

Speaker 0

马修确实配合交出了手机,但他事先声明已删除了与桑德拉的所有通讯记录。

The thing Matthew does comply with is turning over his phone, but he warns that he deleted all the communications with Sandra.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

这很可疑。

That's fishy.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

就像,他们至少看到那是我们。

Like, they see that that's at least us.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

他们没说。

They don't say.

Speaker 0

我们只是拿到了一份非常黑白分明的报告,我甚至带来了这份。

We just have a report that is very black and white, and I I even brought this one.

Speaker 0

报告上仅写着:2021年2月9日,马修·法威尔同意对其个人iPhone 11进行数据提取,随后由州警尼克·瓜里诺执行提取。

So it just says, on 02/09/2021, Matthew Farwell consented to a data extraction of his personal iPhone 11, which was then extracted by trooper Nick Guarino.

Speaker 0

2021年4月26日,我从斯托顿警察局收到了马修的工作手机。

On 04/26/2021, I received Matthew's work cell phone from Stoughton Police Department.

Speaker 0

通过马修的律师,我们获得了数据提取的许可,该提取由州警尼克·瓜里诺执行。

Through Matthew's attorney, consent was given for a data extraction which was performed by trooper Nick Guarino.

Speaker 0

我分析了这两部手机,没有发现任何与桑德拉·伯奇摩尔的通讯记录。

I analyzed both of these phones and did not find any communication with Sandra Burchmore.

Speaker 0

马特在之前的访谈中提到,他已经删除了与桑德拉的所有通讯内容。

Matt had said in a previous interview that he had deleted all communications with Sandra.

Speaker 0

所以不存在那种'哦,我们觉得这很奇怪或很正常'的模糊说法。

So there's no like, oh, we think this was weird or not.

Speaker 2

嗯,什么也没发现。

Well, didn't see anything.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

所以是尼克亚里诺警员负责处理了这个。

So trooper Nickarino went through this.

Speaker 0

我们都知道这事。

We know this.

Speaker 0

但另一位州警中士已经开始梳理从桑德拉公寓收缴的笔记本电脑了。

But another state police sergeant had started combing through Sandra's laptop that was collected from her apartment.

Speaker 2

通讯的另一端。

The other end of the communication.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

他在其中发现了桑德拉与马修在她去世前约12个月内互发的数千条短信。

And so he finds in that thousands of text messages between Sandra and Matthew in the twelve months or so before her death.

Speaker 0

州警方写道,这些短信明确显示马修与桑德拉存在性关系,但他们得出结论认为没有威胁性内容。

Now the state police write that the text messages make it clear that Matthew and Sandra were in a sexual relationship, but they concluded that there was nothing threatening at all.

Speaker 0

所以他们可能只是假设他删除这些消息是为了隐瞒这段婚外情。

So they must just be assuming that he deleted the messages to hide the affair.

Speaker 0

这里没有任何谋杀迹象。

Nothing murdery here.

Speaker 0

所以案件就此结案。

So case closed.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

错了。

Wrong.

Speaker 0

因为斯托顿警局同时在进行他们的内部事务调查。

Because Stoughton PD was running their internal affairs investigation alongside this one.

Speaker 0

在审查桑德拉去世前14个月内她与马修之间的32000多条信息时,他们看到了桑德拉案件更为骇人的一面。

And in reviewing over 32,000 messages between Sandra and Matthew in the fourteen months leading up to her death, they see a far more disturbing picture of Sandra's case.

Speaker 0

因此斯托顿警局局长唐娜·麦克纳马拉在桑德拉被发现次日就启动了对马修·法韦尔的内部事务调查,因为她从州警处得知马修可能与桑德拉存在违反部门规定的私情。

So the chief of Stoughton PD, Donna McNamara, opened that internal affairs investigation into Matthew Farwell the day after Sandra was found because she had heard from MSP about Matthew potentially having an illicit affair with Sandra violating department policies.

Speaker 0

于是她从2月24日起让马修带薪停职。

So she put Matthew on paid leave starting February 24.

Speaker 0

再次强调,必须100%明确的是,她的内部调查仅针对马修的不当行为,而非桑德拉的死亡。

And again, just to be a 100% clear, her internal investigation was only meant to look into Matthew's misconduct, not Sandra's death.

Speaker 2

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

麦克纳马拉局长与州警达成共识,州警仍保留对任何犯罪活动的管辖权,即使是内部调查中发现的线索也不例外。

Chief McNamara and MSP had an understanding that MSP basically still maintained the jurisdiction over any criminal activity, even, like, anything that comes up in the internal investigation.

Speaker 0

如果局长发现任何刑事犯罪责任,她基本上会把所有证据移交给州警。

And if the chief found any criminal culpability, she would basically pass all of that off to MSP.

Speaker 0

所以,好吧。

So like, sure.

Speaker 0

行吧。

Fine.

Speaker 0

随便吧。

Whatever.

Speaker 0

就这么定了。

That's the deal.

Speaker 2

她本无意追查,但如果发现了就会移交。

She's not looking for it, but if she sees it, she'll hand it over.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

我不是

I'm not

Speaker 1

我不会接受的。

gonna take it.

Speaker 0

于是她的团队开始查看手机数据和笔记本电脑,这些数据之前由州警尼克·加里诺分析过。

So her team starts looking at the phone data and the laptop that was previously analyzed by state police trooper Nick Garino.

Speaker 0

这些出现在联邦和法庭文件中的信息不仅表明桑德拉与马修的性关系开始时间远早于他最初声称的日期,还揭示马修存在涉及针对女性的暴力、窒息、乱伦、恋童癖、恋尸癖和强奸等令人不安的性幻想。

And these messages, appear in federal and court documents, don't only suggest that Sandra and Matthew's sexual relationship began way before he originally said, but also that Matthew had disturbing sexual fantasies involving violence against women, choking, incest, pedophilia, necrophilia, and rape.

Speaker 0

我希望大家听听其中部分信息,这样你们就能了解桑德拉与马修之间交流的基调。

And I want everyone to hear some of these messages so you guys can get an idea of the tone of the communication between Sandra and Matthew.

Speaker 0

我会请配音演员来朗读这些内容,因为它们确实令人不适。

I'm gonna have a voice actor reading them because they are really disturbing.

Speaker 0

提前警告各位听众,如果我不愿直视你们说出‘感受他在我体内’这样的话,还请见谅。

So fair warning to people who are listening and, like, forgive me if I don't wanna look you in the eye and say feel him inside me.

Speaker 0

但我认为这展现了马修行为的全貌。

But I think this shows the full extent of Matthew's behavior.

Speaker 0

在几段对话中,马修和桑德拉谈论了他们性关系的开端。

So in a couple of exchanges, Matthew and Sandra talk about the beginning of their sexual relationship.

Speaker 3

你第一次说'天啊,我要这个男人成为我的第一次'是什么时候?

What was the first day you said, OMG, I want this guy to be my first.

Speaker 3

我想感受他在我体内的感觉。

I want to feel him inside me.

Speaker 4

嗯。

Yeah.

Speaker 4

2012年时,我终于决定要设法和你上床,只是当时还不确定具体怎么做。

So 2012, I finally decided that I was gonna try and find a way to fuck you and just wasn't sure how.

Speaker 4

你夺走我处女之身那天,我紧张得心都快跳出来了。

I had butterflies so bad the day you took my virginity.

Speaker 3

我也是。

Me too.

Speaker 3

那真是意义重大的一天。

It was such a big day.

Speaker 4

那是2013年4月10日。

It was 04/10/2013.

Speaker 4

我生命中最美好的一天。

Best day of my life.

Speaker 3

我也是。

Me too.

Speaker 2

所以这段性关系实际上开始于马修向警方报告的时间点之前七年。

So the sexual relationship actually began seven years before Matthew told police that it began.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

他甚至表示希望他们能更早发生关系。

And he actually even says that he wishes they'd done it sooner.

Speaker 3

我真希望能在图书馆帮你学习后第二年就发生。

I wish it had been a year sooner after helping you study at the library.

Speaker 4

在那之后我甚至没让你等一年。

I didn't even make you wait a year after that.

Speaker 3

12年时我绝对会要了你。

I absolutely would have you in '12.

Speaker 4

在12年?

In '12?

Speaker 3

2012年。

2012.

Speaker 2

而在2012年,桑德拉会怎么想?

And in 2012, Sandra would have been like What?

Speaker 0

她那时大概14、15岁。

She was like 14 or 15.

Speaker 0

他知道这事若被别人发现会很糟,所以让她删掉他们的消息记录。

And he knows that this would have been bad for anyone else to find out, so he asked her to get rid of their messages.

Speaker 3

把那部分清掉,宝贝。

Clear that part out, baby.

Speaker 4

我删了。

I did.

Speaker 3

好姑娘。

Good girl.

Speaker 0

再次强调,我知道这些内容多么令人不安,但我真的认为让听众理解这种权力关系很重要。嗯。

Again, I know how disturbing these are, but I really think it's important for our listeners to understand the power Mhmm.

Speaker 0

顺便说一句,马修深知他在精神和肉体上对桑德拉的控制力。

That Matthew knew he had over Sandra mentally and physically, by the way.

Speaker 0

因为桑德拉身高只有四英尺十英寸(约1.47米)。

Because Sandra was four ten.

Speaker 0

而马修身高六英尺四英寸(约1.93米)。

Matthew was six four.

Speaker 0

所以在一次对话中,他说

So in one exchange, he says

Speaker 3

笑死。

LOL.

Speaker 3

要是我坚持的话,从第一天起就完全可以不戴套上你。

If I pushed, I absolutely could have you without condoms from day one.

Speaker 4

刚开始我有点不敢拒绝,不知道你会有什么反应。

I was kinda scared to say no in the beginning, not knowing how you'd take it.

Speaker 4

所以,是的,你本来就不会用避孕套。

So, yeah, you would have got no condoms.

Speaker 0

马修的其他信息揭示了更令人不安的欲望。

Other messages from Matthew revealed even more disturbing desires.

Speaker 3

也许我会稍微掐你一下。

Maybe I'll choke you a little.

Speaker 3

我会掐住你的喉咙说你不准向任何人透露一个字。

I'll grab your throat and say you won't say a word to anyone.

Speaker 3

你会说,马特,住手吗?

Will you say, Matt, stop.

Speaker 3

我才13岁。

I'm 13.

Speaker 3

我还没准备好。

I'm not ready for this.

Speaker 3

天啊,求你快住手。

OMFG, please stop.

Speaker 0

根据《波士顿环球报》引述的消息来源,在她去世前一年里,马修至少有20次在短信中向桑德拉提及掐住她的喉咙、紧勒她的喉咙或在性行为中窒息她。

According to sources cited in the Boston Globe, in the year leading up to her death, there are at least 20 times that Matthew texted Sandra about grabbing her throat, squeezing her throat, or choking her during sex.

Speaker 0

在另一次对话中,桑德拉问道

In another exchange, Sandra asked

Speaker 4

你是想让我直接接受你的行为,还是试着说不?

Do you want me to just take what you do or try and say no?

Speaker 4

我知道被拒绝是你最享受的。

I know being told no is your favorite.

Speaker 3

说不。

Say no.

Speaker 0

当然,所有这些信息都来自2019年之后。

Now, of course, all of these messages are from 2019 onward.

Speaker 0

因此我们无从得知在此之前桑德拉和马修之间的交流情况。

So we have no way of knowing what Sandra and Matthew's communication was like before that.

Speaker 0

但在2020年12月,事情出现了明显转折。

But in December 2020, things took a notable turn.

Speaker 0

那时桑德拉给马修发短信告知她怀孕的消息。

That's when Sandra texted Matthew about her pregnancy.

Speaker 0

她发给他一张自己制作的彩色海报照片,上面写着'恭喜,我们要当父母了'。

She sent him a photo of a colorful poster that she had made with the words, congrats, we're going to be parents.

Speaker 0

而他是这样回应的。

And this is how he responded.

Speaker 3

我现在真的无话可说。

I literally have nothing to say right now.

Speaker 3

我都说过不喜欢这样了,你怎么还能发短信说这事?

How could you express that in text when I said I don't appreciate it?

Speaker 4

我生气的是你对我们共同做出的选择表现得如此态度。

I'm mad you're acting how you are over a choice we both made.

Speaker 3

我很生气。

I'm mad.

Speaker 3

你表现得好像给过任何人选择似的。

You act like you gave anyone a choice.

Speaker 3

你简直是地球上最差劲的人。

You are truly the worst person on the face of the earth.

Speaker 0

马修还问了桑德拉怀孕多久了。

Matthew also asked how far along Sandra was.

Speaker 4

不管多久,我们都会留下这个孩子。

Regardless of how far, we're keeping it.

Speaker 4

但才三周半,意味着我是这个月怀上的。

But three and a half weeks, which means I conceived this month.

Speaker 3

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 3

那我们需要谈谈。

Well, we need to talk then.

Speaker 0

不行。

No.

Speaker 0

这很明显。

That's obvious.

Speaker 0

2020年12月29日那天,他们确实谈过了。

And on 12/29/2020, they did talk.

Speaker 0

这次谈话是面对面进行的,所以我们无法确切知道具体经过。

This conversation was in person, so we have no way of knowing exactly how it went.

Speaker 0

但事后,桑德拉给马修发了这条短信。

But afterwards, Sandra texts Matthew this.

Speaker 4

当你站在我旁边时,我感到非常不安、压力巨大且害怕,因为你说完那些话并从我手中夺走东西后,我以为你要打我。

It made me really uncomfortable and stressed out and scared when you were next to me because I thought you were gonna hit me after you said what you said and took things out of my hand.

Speaker 4

这就是我哭的原因。

That's why I was crying.

Speaker 4

我知道你不会动手,但我还是被吓到了。

I know you wouldn't, but it still scared me.

Speaker 4

显然,他对怀孕这件事并不高兴。

So clearly, he's not happy about the pregnancy.

Speaker 2

确实如此。

I mean, yeah.

Speaker 2

对妻子隐瞒这件事可比单纯隐瞒婚外情困难多了。

It's a lot harder to hide from your wife than just an affair.

Speaker 0

而且时机特别糟糕,因为我之前还没提到这点。

Well, and at an especially bad time because I didn't mention this yet.

Speaker 0

但当马修在2月1日那晚离开桑德拉公寓后,猜猜他去了哪里?

But when Matthew left Sandra's apartment that night of February 1, guess where he went?

Speaker 0

他去了产房,因为他的妻子正在分娩他们的第三个孩子。

The Delivery Room because his wife was in labor with their third baby.

Speaker 0

所以没错,他即将和妻子迎来新生儿,而桑德拉却告诉他她也怀孕了。

So, yeah, he's about to have a new baby with his wife, and Sandra is telling him she's pregnant too.

Speaker 0

也许他本来能找到方法掩盖这件事,但在1月20日,马修发现桑德拉一直在向别人透露他们的婚外情。

Now maybe he would have found some way to keep this under wraps, but on January 20, Matthew found out that Sandra had been telling people about their affair.

Speaker 0

显然他一直以为这是他们之间的小秘密,但在桑德拉的圈子里早已人尽皆知。

Apparently, he had been under the impression that it was like their little secret, but it was far from it in Sandra's circles.

Speaker 0

而据称在她死亡前,这位我们暂且称作吉尔的朋友试图利用这点为自己谋利。

And apparently leading up to her death, this friend who we're gonna call Jill tried to use that to her advantage.

Speaker 0

吉尔说她与桑德拉因为一些欠款问题发生了争执。

Jill said that her and Sandra got into an argument about some money that Sandra owed her.

Speaker 0

吉尔告诉桑德拉,如果她不开始还钱,就会去报警。而她在1月20日确实这么做了,就在桑德拉去世前几周。

And Jill told Sandra that if she didn't start to pay up, she was gonna go file a police report, which she did on January 20, just weeks before Sandra's death.

Speaker 0

当斯托顿警方告诉吉尔这属于民事纠纷时,吉尔非常生气。

When Stoughton PD told Jill that this was a civil matter, Jill got upset.

Speaker 0

她在愤怒中通过电话表示:'你们可以告诉那个与桑德拉有性关系的警官侦探,让他转告她还钱'。

And in her anger, she, over the phone, basically said, well, like, you can tell whatever police officer detective that Sandra's in a sexual relationship with that he can tell her to pay back the money.

Speaker 2

电话那头的警官对此作何反应?

And how did the officer on the phone respond to that?

Speaker 0

他们直接去找了马修。

They went straight to Matthew.

Speaker 0

他们质问:'这是怎么回事?'

And they're like, what's this about?

Speaker 0

根据调查文件显示,马修当时非常慌张,告诉那个人'不要再对任何人提起这件事,永远不要再谈论它'。

And according to investigative files, Matthew got really rattled and told that person, quote, not to speak about this to anyone and to never talk about it again, end quote.

Speaker 0

而他告知的那个人必定遵守了沉默准则,因为我们知道内部调查当时并未启动。

And whoever he told that to must have kept their code of silence since we know the internal affairs investigation did not start then.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

但在马修被问及这段关系后的当天,他就给桑德拉发了短信。

But that day after Matthew was approached about the affair, he texted Sandra.

Speaker 3

伙计,你那个该死的朋友打电话到我工作单位了,桑德拉。

Dude, your fucking friend called my job, Sandra.

Speaker 3

卧槽。

WTF.

Speaker 3

你还跟我说没人知道我们的事,结果她说我们在上床。

You also told me that no one knew about us, yet she claimed we are fucking.

Speaker 4

这根本没什么。

It's literally nothing.

Speaker 3

这可不是没什么。

It's not nothing.

Speaker 3

她打电话到我工作的地方。

She called my job.

Speaker 3

这太疯狂了。

That's insane.

Speaker 3

你根本不知道她做的事有多恶劣。

Like you have no idea how bad what she did is.

Speaker 3

我真的无法相信这竟然是真的。

I literally can't believe this is even real life.

Speaker 3

我现在还得担心些什么?

Like what else do I have to worry about now?

Speaker 3

明天还会有哪个朋友做出什么事来?

Which other friend will do something tomorrow?

Speaker 0

奇怪的是,在这次互动后,马修突然完全改变了态度,开始非常积极地跟桑德拉谈论他们的整个情况。

And what's so weird is after this interaction, Matthew just out of nowhere completely changes his tune and starts to speak really positively to Sandra about their whole situation.

Speaker 0

桑德拉实际上还发短信跟她朋友说了这件事。

And Sandra actually texted her friend about it.

展开剩余字幕(还有 252 条)
Speaker 4

昨晚父亲来过了。

So the father came by last night.

Speaker 4

这简直是个360度大转变。

It was like a complete three sixty change.

Speaker 0

180度?

One eighty?

Speaker 4

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 4

哈哈。

LOL.

Speaker 4

是好是坏?

Good or bad?

Speaker 4

好的。

Good.

Speaker 4

但很意外。

But unexpected.

Speaker 4

这让我有点措手不及,感觉不太自在,主要是因为事情的发展方式。

So it kinda threw me off and made me a little uncomfortable, but that's because of how things were going.

Speaker 4

但这和我们之前的状态相比简直是180度大转弯。

But it was like a complete one eighty from where we were at.

Speaker 0

就在同一天晚上,马修在和桑德拉谈心时,还向她索要公寓钥匙和大楼门禁密码。

On this same night, along with having a heart to heart, Matthew also asked Sandra for a key to her apartment and the code to her building's entrance.

Speaker 0

尽管他看似做得很完美,说的话也无可挑剔,但桑德拉还是时不时感到不安,总觉得哪里不对劲。

Even with him seemingly doing everything right, like saying the perfect things, there were moments where Sandra felt uneasy, like something wasn't quite right.

Speaker 0

1月24日那天发生180度转变的对话后,桑德拉给朋友发了条关于怪事的短信。

The day of that 180 degree change conversation on January 24, Sandra texted a friend about something weird.

Speaker 4

昨晚他打开我的衣柜找东西,后来又进浴室打量我的卫生间。

Last night, he opened my closet door for something, and then he went in my bathroom looking at my bathroom.

Speaker 4

我客厅里有个手推车,他还问我为什么会有这个。

And then I have a dolly in my living room that he asked why I had it.

Speaker 4

就是感觉特别奇怪。

It was just really odd.

Speaker 4

他开始四处张望。

He started looking around.

Speaker 4

我不知道。

I don't know.

Speaker 4

真的很诡异。

It was really weird.

Speaker 0

1月29日,桑德拉提醒马修公寓大门的密码时,马修要求她确认这是整栋楼的通用密码,而不仅仅是桑德拉的个人密码。

Then on January 29, Sandra reminded Matthew what the code to enter apartment complex was, and Matthew asked her to confirm that it was a general code for the entire building, not just like a personal code for Sandra.

Speaker 0

这基本上就把我们带到了2月1日。

And that basically brings us to February 1.

Speaker 2

桑德拉遇害的那天。

The day that Sandra died.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

晚上9点左右,马修发短信问桑德拉能否过来待一会儿。

Matthew texted Sandra at around 9PM asking if he could come by for a second.

Speaker 0

她回复说会给他留门,这是桑德拉生前发送的最后一条已知消息。

She responded that she would leave her door open for him, and that was the last known message that Sandra would ever send.

Speaker 2

我想我现在有点困惑。

I'm I guess I'm confused right now.

Speaker 2

比如,MSP有这些来自桑德拉笔记本电脑的消息。

Like, MSP had these messages from Sandra's laptop.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 2

他们是不是就直接无视了这些消息?

Like, are they just ignoring them?

Speaker 0

这真的很奇怪。

It's really bizarre.

Speaker 0

听着,我这就把报告中关于笔记本电脑消息的内容原原本本读给你听。

So listen, I'm just gonna read you exactly what they say about the laptop messages in the report.

Speaker 0

再次提醒,这里有很多删节内容。

Keep in mind, again, lot of redactions here.

Speaker 0

但报告显示,在接下来的几周里,我分析了桑德拉笔记本电脑中的数据。

But it says this, over the next several weeks, I analyzed data from Sandra's laptop.

Speaker 0

具体而言,我正在调查与桑德拉死亡有关的任何犯罪行为以及此处被编辑的内容。

In particular, I was investigating any criminal conduct related to Sandra's death and something redacted here.

Speaker 0

桑德拉的笔记本电脑让我获取了大约十二个月的iMessage记录、社交媒体联系信息以及其他文档/数据库。

Sandra's laptop gave me access to approximately twelve months of iMessages, social media contact, and other documents slash databases.

Speaker 0

马特和桑德拉在那一年里互发了数千条短信,同时桑德拉还与许多其他朋友和家人保持着通讯。

Matt and Sandra had texted thousands of times over the year as well as communication with many other friends and family of Sandra.

Speaker 0

根据与马特的短信内容可以明确,正如他在先前访谈中所述,他与桑德拉存在性关系。

It was clear based on texts with Matt that he and Sandra had a sexual relationship as he told us in his previous interview.

Speaker 0

然后是大段被编辑的内容,接着是这段文字。

Then there's this big redacted chunk followed by this.

Speaker 0

所有这些对话都在她笔记本电脑的取证报告中被标记出来。

All of these conversations were flagged in the forensics report of her laptop.

Speaker 0

桑德拉经常与朋友和家人保持联系。

Sandra communicated often with friends and family.

Speaker 0

根据迹象显示,桑德拉在去世前几个月内与其他男性有过性关系。

It appeared Sandra had sexual relationships with other men in the months leading up to her death.

Speaker 0

这些人员中,包括马特在内,均未发出过伤害威胁,引述结束。

There were no threats of harm by any of these individuals, including Matt, end quote.

Speaker 2

就...就这样?

That's that's it?

Speaker 0

这确实是我们收到的MSP报告最后一页上的最后一句话。

That's literally the last sentence on the last page of the MSP report that we received.

Speaker 0

没有伤害威胁。

No threats of harm.

Speaker 0

所以不存在刑事责任。

So no criminal culpability.

Speaker 2

但显然,这里存在犯罪行为。

But clearly, there is a crime here.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

好吧,先把可能的谋杀案放一边。

Well, put possible murder aside.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

麦克纳马拉局长无法调查那件事。

Chief McNamara can't look into that.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

因为那不是她的管辖范围。

Because that's not her jurisdiction.

Speaker 0

但是,没错,对于她现任局长的部门内部一名探索者学员遭受性侵的事件,她正全力以赴推进调查。

But, yeah, the sexual abuse of an explorer within the department she now is chief of move out the way like she is charging full steam ahead.

Speaker 0

因为关键在于:

Because here's the thing.

Speaker 0

除了现在能确定马修在项目中性侵未成年人外,还有其他证人站出来表示桑德拉曾告诉他们涉案者不止他一人。

Along with now being sure that Matthew abused a minor in the program, other witnesses come forward and say that Sandra told them he wasn't the only one.

Speaker 0

据认识桑德拉的人透露——我要事先声明这些信息大多未经证实——但他们表示马修·法威尔并非斯托顿警局中唯一与桑德拉有过性关系的雇员。

According to people who knew Sandra, and I wanna preface this by saying much of this information is unconfirmed, but they say that Matthew Farwell wasn't the only Stoughton Police Department employee who Sandra had a sexual relationship with.

Speaker 0

她还与马修的双胞胎兄弟威廉·法威尔有过关系。

She also had one with William Farwell, Matthew's twin brother.

Speaker 2

什么?

What?

Speaker 2

什么时候?

When?

Speaker 2

怎么回事?

How?

Speaker 2

那这对兄弟知道彼此的关系吗?

And did did the brothers know about each other's relationships?

Speaker 0

威廉也是斯托顿警局的一名警官。

So William is also an officer with the Stoughton Police Department.

Speaker 0

他们同样是通过探索者计划相识的,因为他曾是客座教官。

They also met through the explorers program because he was a guest instructor.

Speaker 0

所以当他们和他谈话时,他承认了这件事。

So when they talk to him, he admits it.

Speaker 0

但就像糟糕的似曾相识感一样,他说自己曾与桑德拉发生过两到三次性关系。

But like bad case of deja vu, he says that he had, quote, been with Sandra sexually maybe two to three times.

Speaker 0

最后一次是在2020年12月的某个时候。

And the last of which was sometime in December 2020.

Speaker 2

但那正是她同时与马修交往的时期。

But that was when she was also seeing Matthew.

Speaker 0

显然如此。

Apparently.

Speaker 0

很明显,这里正在发生更严重的事情。

So clearly, there is something bigger happening here.

Speaker 0

于是麦克纳马拉警长所在的机构雇佣了多名私家侦探和外部顾问,在近十九个月的时间里,他们追查了你能想到的所有线索。

So chief McNamara's agency hires multiple PIs and outside consultants, and over the course of nearly nineteen months, they go down every rabbit hole you can think of.

Speaker 0

你猜怎么着?

And guess what?

Speaker 0

事情甚至还没结束。

It didn't even end there.

Speaker 0

内部事务调查中还牵涉到另一名男子罗伯特·德文,他曾是斯托顿警察局的副局长,也是探索者项目的负责人。

Implicated in the internal affairs investigation was another man named Robert Devine, who was a former deputy chief of the Stoughton Police Department and the officer in charge of the Explorers program.

Speaker 0

实际上,正是罗伯特将马修和他的双胞胎兄弟作为客座教官引入该项目。

Robert is actually the man that brought Matthew and his twin brother into the program as guest instructors.

Speaker 0

在访谈中,罗伯特起初声称对法威尔兄弟与桑德拉的关系毫不知情,但后来改口称桑德拉确实以成年自愿者的身份向他提及此事,而罗伯特当时并不相信她。

In interviews, Robert first claims to have no knowledge of the Farwell brothers' relationships with Sandra, but then he later clarifies that Sandra did bring it up to him as a consenting adult and Robert didn't believe her.

Speaker 0

据罗伯特所述,虽然他与桑德拉从未正式联系,但她经常在他执勤时主动接近,提供咖啡,找机会攀谈,并表现出他所说的对警察的痴迷行为。

According to Robert, while he and Sandra were never formally in touch, she would often seek him out while he was on duty offering coffee, hanging around to talk, and showing what he described as an obsession with police officers.

Speaker 0

他说这种情况大约每周发生一次。

He said this happened about once a week.

Speaker 2

所以你看,她就是痴迷于他们。

So, you know, she's just obsessed with them.

Speaker 2

他们能有什么办法呢?

What what could they have done?

Speaker 2

他们能做什么呢,艾希莉?

What could they possibly do, Ashley?

Speaker 2

I

Speaker 0

对我来说这是个恶心的暗示,好像问题出在她身上。

it's a gross implication to me that, like, she was the problem.

Speaker 0

就因为她想成为一名警察,因为她真的非常热爱那个项目。

All because she wanted to be a police officer because she really did love that program.

Speaker 0

我是说,桑德拉在2010年13岁时加入了探索者项目,显然她从很小的时候就被警察所吸引。

I mean, Sandra joined the Explorers program in 2010 when she was 13 years old, and apparently she was drawn to police officers from a very young age.

Speaker 0

他们代表了她渴望的一切——安全感、稳定性,这些是她成长过程中所缺失的。

They represented everything she wanted, safety, stability, the things that she didn't have growing up.

Speaker 0

家人曾说桑德拉对警察怀有深深的敬意,甚至将他们偶像化。

Family members have said that Sandra deeply respected police, even idolized them.

Speaker 0

根据《波士顿杂志》的报道,她加入探索者项目不仅是为了实现自己成为警官的梦想,也是为了寻求她渴望的指导和人生方向。

According to reporting from Boston Magazine, she joined the Explorers program not only to fulfill her dreams of becoming an officer herself, but also to find the mentorship and direction that she craved.

Speaker 0

然而她却成为了猎物。

But instead she was preyed upon.

Speaker 0

麦克纳马拉警长的调查发现,桑德拉和罗伯特从2020年起直到她去世前,一直通过Facebook Messenger保持正式联系和沟通。

Chief McNamara's investigation found that Sandra and Robert had been formally in touch and communicating by Facebook Messenger from 2020 up until her death.

Speaker 0

根据报告,罗伯特对此的解释是——引用原话——荒谬地声称账户被黑客入侵。

According to the report, Robert explains this by, quote, outrageously making claims about accounts being hacked.

Speaker 0

当然了。

Of course.

Speaker 0

在麦克纳马拉的调查中,多名受访证人也描述了探索者项目中存在的不当行为模式,包括拥抱、亲吻,甚至罗伯特与法威尔兄弟在储物间里的接触,以及类似'等你18岁后再来找我'这样的言论。

In McNamara's investigation, multiple witness interviewed also described a pattern of inappropriate conduct within the Explorer program, including hugging, kissing, even encounters in a closet involving Robert and the Farwell brothers, as well as comments like come back and see me after you turn 18.

Speaker 0

一名证人回忆桑德拉曾谈论过警员们承受的压力以及他们寻找发泄途径的方式。

One witness recalls Sandra talking about the stress officers were under and the way that they looked for outlets.

Speaker 0

最终,麦克纳马拉建议撤销罗伯特、威廉和马修三人的警察资格认证,并将其列入国家吊销资格名录。

In the end, McNamara recommends that Robert, William, and Matthew all have their police certifications revoked and be entered into the National Decertification Index.

Speaker 0

还有至少来自其他部门的一名警员也被发现是同谋。

And there is at least one other officer from another department found to be complicit as well.

Speaker 2

我是说,那现在怎么办?

I mean, so what now?

Speaker 2

这些人就只是,像是,被轻轻处罚一下?

The men just get, like, a slap on the wrist?

Speaker 0

实际上,他们在任何行动采取前就都辞职了。

Well, they actually all resign before any sort of action can even be taken.

Speaker 2

当然了。

Of course.

Speaker 0

2022年9月,警长麦克纳马拉就她的调查举行了新闻发布会,首次公开谈及整个事件。

And in September 2022, chief McNamara holds a press conference about her investigation where she publicly addresses the entire situation for the first time.

Speaker 1

我要向各位汇报的事情,无论是作为一个人还是作为警察局长,都让我深感不安。

What I'm about to brief you on is something deeply troubling to me as a human being and as a police chief.

Speaker 1

2021年2月,23岁的桑德拉·伯奇莫尔被发现死于她在肯特的公寓中。

On February 2123 year old Sandra Birchmore was found deceased in her apartment in Kent.

Speaker 1

我今天要谈的是她的生平,以及她是如何被那些她生前一直敬仰信任的权威人士辜负、操纵和利用的。

What I am here to talk about today is her life and how she was failed by, manipulated by, and used by people of authority that she admired and trusted right up into our final days.

Speaker 1

伯奇摩尔小姐是个脆弱的人,自童年起生活中就有一个不变的依靠。

Miss Birchmore was a vulnerable person who had one constant in her life since childhood.

Speaker 1

她对警察、军人、穿制服的人、那些宣誓保护和服务的人怀有坚定不移的崇拜。

Her unwavering admiration of police officers, of those serving the military, people in uniform, people with oaths and duties to protect and serve.

Speaker 1

这种崇拜使她与那些企图利用她的男人建立了关系。

The admiration led her to form relationships with men who were willing to take advantage of her.

Speaker 1

迪瓦恩镇的福勒兄弟违背了他们的就职誓言,通过持续蓄意的谎言、欺骗与背叛,永远不配再以警察身份服务任何社区。

The Fowler brothers in Divine violated their oaths of office and should never have the privilege of serving any community as a police officer through a sustained and deliberate combination of lies, deceit, and treachery.

Speaker 1

他们不仅违背了斯托顿警察局的政策和核心价值观,更丧失了基本人性。

They violated the policies and the core values of the Stoughton Police Department, not to mention human decency.

Speaker 1

今天我作为一名心碎且愤怒的公仆站在这里,对发生的一切感到痛心,并承诺斯托顿警察局和斯托顿镇的这一黑暗篇章已经终结。

I stand before you today as a civil servant who is heartbroken and incensed by what has transpired and who pledges that this chapter in the Stoughton Police Department and the town of Stoughton is over.

Speaker 1

这类事件绝不能再现。

It must never repeat.

Speaker 1

旋转门已经关闭。

The revolving door is closed.

Speaker 0

麦克纳马拉警长将她所有的调查结果移交给了诺福克地区检察官办公室。

Chief McNamara turns all her findings over to the Norfolk DA's office.

Speaker 0

根据她所在机构对法定强奸罪的调查结果,我原以为会提起公诉,但他们决定不予起诉。

I assume for prosecution based on her agency's findings of what would be statutory rape, but they declined to press any charges.

Speaker 2

我很抱歉。

I'm sorry.

Speaker 2

这老男孩俱乐部里到底在发生什么?

What in the good old boys club is happening here?

Speaker 0

嗯,在2022年的一份声明中,地区检察官办公室发言人表示,由于主要证人桑德拉已经去世,法定强奸罪将难以证明。

Well, in a 2022 statement, a spokesperson for the DA says that statutory rape would be difficult to prove given that Sandra, the main witness, was dead.

Speaker 2

好吧。

Okay.

Speaker 2

但她死亡的原因可能是他杀害了她。

But she's dead because he might have killed her.

Speaker 2

这不能成为漏洞吧。

Like, this this can't be the loophole.

Speaker 0

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

桑德拉的家人对此愤怒不已。

Sandra's family is furious over this.

Speaker 0

我还没怎么谈到他们,但他们一直在为她争取公道。

I haven't even spoken much about them yet, but they were fighting for her every step of the way.

Speaker 0

我是说,从第一天她阿姨接到桑德拉所谓'自杀'的通知起,她就觉得事情不对劲。

I mean, from the second that her aunt was notified on day one about Sandra's quote unquote suicide, she knew something was up.

Speaker 0

她不仅知道桑德拉去世前其实过得很开心,而且当她和其他亲属在桑德拉死后去她公寓时,那里的一切迹象都表明这不是自杀。

I mean, not only did she know that Sandra was actually in a really happy place before her death, But also when her and other relatives went to Sandra's apartment after her death, the place gave all the signs of someone who did not take their life.

Speaker 0

当他们开始整理她的遗物时,看到的一切都显示桑德拉的离世非常突然。

When they started going through her things, everything that they saw made it seem like Sandra's passing was extremely abrupt.

Speaker 0

洗衣机里还有湿衣服,未拆的包裹,甚至还有正在派送中的快递。

There was still wet clothes in the washing machine and unopened packages, plus more deliveries on the way.

Speaker 0

她甚至把猫独自留在家中——当警方最终发现她时,这完全说不通,因为她其实已经开始安排人在她分娩时(那本该是七个月后)照顾这些猫。

She even had cats that she had left unattended when police finally found her, which made zero sense because she had actually already started making plans to have somebody look after those same cats while she gave birth, which would have been, like, seven months later.

Speaker 0

但我觉得最能说明问题的,是她的家人在卧室里的发现。

But one of the most telling things, I think, is what her family finds in the bedroom.

Speaker 0

他们发现了桑德拉的项链,这是她祖母留给她的纪念品。

They found Sandra's necklace, this keepsake from her grandmother.

Speaker 0

那是一条细金链,上面挂着粉色火烈鸟吊坠,当时就躺在地板上。

It was this thin gold chain with, like, a pink flamingo charm, and it was laying on the floor.

Speaker 0

链子从中间断裂了,还缠着一绺头发。

The chain had snapped in the middle, and then there was this clump of hair tangled in it.

Speaker 2

在我看来,这明显是搏斗的痕迹。

I mean, to me, that feels like a a sign of a struggle.

Speaker 2

警方没注意到这个吗?

Did police not see it?

Speaker 0

实际上,项链在他们发现她时就已经断裂,还挂在她脖子上,这些都有照片记录,但警方没有收集这个证据。

Well, apparently, the necklace was broken and, like, hanging off of her neck when they found her, which is documented with photographs, but it wasn't collected.

Speaker 0

所以我猜警官们认为这不重要。

So I guess officers didn't think it was relevant.

Speaker 0

所以当他们移动她的尸体时,项链掉到了地上,他们要么没注意到,要么就是不在乎也没收集。

So when it fell to the floor as they're, I assume, like, moving her body, they either didn't notice it or, like, didn't care and collect it.

Speaker 2

那家人给他们看了吗?

And did the family show them?

Speaker 0

哦,当然。

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

他们立刻把项链交给了警方,但这显然没改变警方的态度。

They handed over the necklace to police right away, but that apparently didn't change anything for them.

Speaker 0

于是家人们决定自己行动起来,在社交媒体上动员社区,让认识桑德拉的人站出来分享故事。

So the family members took it upon themselves to galvanize the community on social media, getting people who knew Sandra to come forward and share stories.

Speaker 0

大量故事都指向探索者项目,这些故事帮助充实了麦克纳马拉的内部调查。

So many stories that pointed to the explorer program and stories that helped build out McNamara's internal investigation.

Speaker 0

现在听说调查不会有任何结果,这简直让人愤怒。

So now to hear that nothing was gonna come of it, like that was infuriating.

Speaker 0

于是在2022年12月,桑德拉的家人尝试了另一种方法。

So in December 2022, Sandra's family tries a different approach.

Speaker 0

他们在诺福克县高等法院提起非正常死亡诉讼,指控马修、威廉和罗伯特从很小就长期存在对桑德拉的性引诱和性虐待行为,并暗示他们与她的死亡有关。

They file a wrongful death suit in Norfolk County Superior Court, accusing Matthew, William, and Robert of grooming and sexually abusing Sandra from a young age and implicating them in her death.

Speaker 0

家属指控内容包括非正常死亡、监管失职、留用疏忽、身心痛苦及精神损害等多项罪名。

The family alleges wrongful death, negligent supervision, negligent retention, pain and suffering, and emotional distress among other things.

Speaker 0

他们特别提到一个持续存在的性引诱与不当行为模式,声称这直接导致了桑德拉的死亡。

And they specifically mentioned an ongoing scheme of grooming and misconduct, which they say led to Sandra's death.

Speaker 0

该诉讼仍在进行中,最终判决日期定于2026年5月。

So that litigation is still ongoing, and a judgment date is set for May 2026.

Speaker 2

桑德拉的家人实际上是唯一没有简单将她的死亡当作自杀案件来调查的人。

So Sandra's family members are really the only ones actually looking into her death as, like, anything other than a suicide.

Speaker 0

这就是我之前说的情况——当你突然意识到整个系统已经失灵的那个瞬间。

So this is what I was saying, where you get this, like, moment where you're like, the system is not working.

Speaker 0

一切都崩溃了。

Everything's broken.

Speaker 0

嗯。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

但其中也有好人存在。

But there are good eggs within it.

Speaker 0

我们有警长麦克纳马拉,她的调查揭露了手下警官的恶劣行径。

So we've got chief McNamara who has this investigation exposing her officers for their abhorrent behavior.

Speaker 0

然后可能是因为她,也可能是因为其他原因,比如2022年涉及坎顿警察局和马萨诸塞州警的另一个大案子。

And then maybe because of her, maybe because of something else, like another big case involving Canton PD and MSP that happens in 2022.

Speaker 2

约翰·奥基夫案。

John O'Keefe.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

也许是因为所有压力和聚光灯的共同作用。

Maybe because of all the pressure and the spotlight combined.

Speaker 0

在某个时刻,其他好人会站出来说:不行。

At some point, other good people step in and say, nuh-uh.

Speaker 0

我们绝不允许这种事情发生。

Not on our watch.

Speaker 0

那就是FBI。

And that's the FBI.

Speaker 0

目前尚不清楚FBI调查的具体时间线是如何展开的。

Now it's not really clear how the FBI investigation timeline unfolded.

Speaker 0

他们对此一直不太公开。

They haven't been very public about that.

Speaker 2

他们向来不以公开透明著称

They aren't known to be very

Speaker 0

但在2024年8月28日左右,特别探员莎娜伊·卡斯特里塔发布了一份45页的宣誓书,详细记录了她的全部调查结果,明确阐述了他们认为的事件经过及原因。

public But about on 08/28/2024, special agent Shanay Castrita releases a 45 page affidavit with all of her findings, and it details exactly what they think happened and why.

Speaker 0

卡斯特里塔探员证实了我们已知的关于马修在桑德拉幼年时就开始培养关系的情况,并清晰陈述了马修的谋杀动机。

Agent Castrita confirms what we already know about Matthew grooming Sandra when she was a child and lays out Matthew's motive for murder in clear terms.

Speaker 0

她在报告中指出:2020年10月,当桑德拉得知马修妻子怀孕的消息后,向马修发出了最后通牒——

She writes that in October 2020 when Sandra heard about Matthew's wife's pregnancy, she went to him with an ultimatum.

Speaker 0

只要他同意尝试让她怀孕,她就不会揭发他们持续多年的性关系,包括这段关系始于她未成年时期,以及马修在执勤期间仍与她私会的事实。

She wouldn't expose their years long sexual relationship, including the fact that it began when she was underage and that they'd been meeting while Matthew was on duty if he agreed to try and get her pregnant.

Speaker 0

他们的短信甚至显示桑德拉向马修发送了她的排卵周期表,两人据此安排性接触。

Their text even shows Sandra sending Matthew her ovulation schedule and the two of them planning sexual encounters around it.

Speaker 0

但当桑德拉怀孕后,她开始将此事告诉他人,这违背了他们的约定。

But when Sandra got pregnant, she started telling people about it and that wasn't part of the deal.

Speaker 0

宣誓书明确指出,1月20日当朋友吉尔打电话给斯托顿警局揭露马修与桑德拉的关系,导致警员质问马修时,正是马修策划杀害她的时刻。

The affidavit actually puts forward that on January 20, when that friend Jill called Stoughton PD and spilled the beans about Matthew and Sandra, causing that officer to question Matthew, that is the very moment that Matthew hatched a plan to kill her.

Speaker 0

卡斯崔塔探员表示,此后所有那些推心置腹的谈话,引用原话'是他试图安抚伯奇摩尔直到能杀害她的手段',结束引用。

And all those heart to hearts after that, agent Castrita says were quote, his attempt to appease Birchmore until he could kill her, end quote.

Speaker 0

他们声称掌握了确凿的物证。

And they have physical proof, they say.

Speaker 0

联邦调查局分析了桑德拉iPhone健康应用中的数据。

The FBI analyzed the data from the health app on Sandra's iPhone.

Speaker 0

她最后的行动记录在晚上9点40分。

Her last movements were recorded at 09:40PM.

Speaker 0

这比监控拍到马修离开她公寓楼的时间早了三分钟。

That is three minutes before Matthew was seen leaving her building.

Speaker 0

因此这些数据很可能准确显示了桑德拉死亡的时间,而马修当时仍在公寓内。

So it's likely this data shows exactly when Sandra died, and Matthew was still inside the apartment.

Speaker 2

当他离开时,完全可以用随身携带的钥匙从外面反锁房门。

And when he left, he could have used the key that he had to lock up behind him.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

卡斯崔塔探员通过咨询法医专家威廉·斯莫克医生来佐证这一推断。

And agent Castrita backs this up by tapping expert forensic physician, doctor William Smock.

Speaker 0

这位专家专攻窒息死亡案例,曾在德里克·肖万案中就乔治·弗洛伊德谋杀案作证。

He specializes in asphyxiation cases and testified in the Derek Chauvin trial about George Floyd's murder.

Speaker 0

根据宣誓书,斯莫克的发现与州警方的结论直接矛盾。

According to the affidavit, Smock's findings directly contradict what state police concluded.

Speaker 0

他指出桑德拉舌骨(位于颈部顶端)的骨折情况与她被发现时的体位不符。

He pointed out that fracture in Sandra's hyoid bone, which is at the top of the neck, didn't line up with the position that she was found in.

Speaker 0

斯莫克解释称:当发现尸体呈坐姿时,应视为不完全性缢吊——这意味着只有部分身体重量实际作用于颈部。

Smock explained that when someone is found seated, it is considered an incomplete hanging, meaning that only part of the body's weight is actually pulling on the neck.

Speaker 0

在他深入的法医研究中,他未能找到一例女性在这种情形下导致舌骨骨折的文献记载案例。

And in his deep dive through forensic research, he could not find a single documented case of a woman fracturing her hyoid bone in that kind of scenario.

Speaker 0

相反,这类骨折绝大多数出现在手动扼颈或全身重量悬吊的情况下。

Instead, those fractures overwhelmingly show up in cases of manual strangulation or when the full weight of the body is suspended.

Speaker 0

因此他总结道,引用'以合理的医学和科学确定性认为,Birchmore女士的死因是窒息,且其死亡方式为他杀',引用结束。

So he concludes with quote, a reasonable degree of medical and scientific certainty that the cause of miss Birchmore's death is asphyxia and that the manner of her death is homicide, end quote.

Speaker 0

Castrita探员还记录了一个非常有趣的情况:在马修同意将个人手机移交给州警后,他用工作手机搜索并立即删除了关于

And something else really interesting that agent Castrita writes is that after Matthew consented to handing his personal cell phone over to state police, he used his work phone to search and then immediately delete searches for

Speaker 4

对。

Right.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

已删除的iMessage能否恢复,以及在马萨诸塞州是否可以撤销同意。

Whether deleted iMessages can be recovered and whether someone can revoke consent in Massachusetts.

Speaker 0

正是在这份文件的最后一页,Castrita探员写下了这些内容。

And it's on the last page of this document that agent Castrita writes this.

Speaker 0

引述,上述信息支持政府提出的动议,要求在审判前拘留马修·法威尔。

Quote, the information set forth above supports the government's motion to detain Matthew Farwell pending trial in this case.

Speaker 0

就在卡斯特雷塔探员提交报告的当天,马修·法威尔被捕了。

And that is how on the very date agent Castreta files her report, Matthew Farwell is arrested.

Speaker 2

那FBI是如何获得案件管辖权实施逮捕的?

So how did the FBI get jurisdiction of the case in order to make the arrest?

Speaker 2

他们能直接凌驾于州执法机构之上吗?

Like, do they just, like, trump state agencies by default?

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

FBI采取了一个巧妙举措——以一项联邦罪名起诉马修:杀害证人或受害者。这项指控通常与其他联邦罪名相关联,比如涉及多州的团伙犯罪案件。

The FBI makes an ingenious move to charge Matthew with one count of killing a witness or victim, which is a federal crime charge that often appears in connection with other federal charges, like sometimes in mob cases or crime rings that span, like, multiple states.

Speaker 2

但本案中,这项罪名让FBI能绕过州警直接介入。

But in this case, it allowed the FBI to step in without involving MSP.

Speaker 0

正是如此。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

而这项指控恰好也是可以判处死刑的。

And this charge also happens to be punishable by death.

Speaker 0

所以当天,马修在传讯中表示不认罪。

So that same day, Matthew pleads not guilty at an arraignment.

Speaker 0

截至本次录音时,马修已被联邦大陪审团起诉,他的审判目前定于2026年10月5日开始。

And as of this recording, Matthew has been indicted by a federal grand jury, and his trial is currently scheduled to begin 10/05/2026.

Speaker 0

在此之前,他将在罗德岛的一个拘留所被关押,不得保释。

Until then, he's being held without bail at a detention facility in Rhode Island.

Speaker 0

我们的记者妮可·卡根实际上已经联系了他的律师寻求评论,但截至本次录音时,我们尚未收到任何回复。

And our reporter, Nicole Kagan, actually reached out to his attorney for comment, but as of this recording, we have not heard anything back.

Speaker 0

不过,这个案件仍有新的进展。

There is news still breaking in this case though.

Speaker 0

对我来说最奇怪的事情是《波士顿环球报》今年早些时候爆出的。

The strangest thing to me was broken by the Boston Globe earlier this year.

Speaker 0

他们写道,熟悉调查情况但要求匿名的人士表示,DNA检测显示马修并非桑德拉未出生孩子的生物学父亲。

They wrote that people familiar with the investigation who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that DNA testing showed Matthew was not the biological father of Sandra's unborn baby.

Speaker 2

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 2

首先,这些消息来源是谁?

First of all, who are these sources?

Speaker 2

我真的很需要知道。

I, like, need to know.

Speaker 0

我也是,但我完全不知道。

Same, but I have no idea.

Speaker 2

其次,作案动机对我来说仍然成立,因为如果马修以为自己就是孩子的父亲——从短信内容来看他确实这么认为——这就是作案动机。

And secondly, the motive still makes sense for me, though, because if Matthew thought he was the father, which it really seems like he did from the text messages, like, that's your motive.

Speaker 2

而且他一开始拒绝提供DNA样本。

And, also, he refused to give his DNA at first.

Speaker 2

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

嗯,还有他有个双胞胎兄弟承认同时期也和桑德拉发生过关系。

Well, also, he had a twin brother who admitted to sleeping with Sandra at the same time.

Speaker 0

而且,就像我个人的公开声明一样,我再也不信任那些在同一地点工作且能接触到孩子的成年双胞胎了。

And, like, my own PSA, I no longer trust adult twins who work at the same place if that place gives them access to children.

Speaker 0

我知道这听起来很具体,但我刚听完dig最新一季的内容,简直让人毛骨悚然。

I know that sounds specific, but I just listened to the newest season of dig and, like, oh, hell no.

Speaker 0

这里存在一个模式。

There is a pattern here.

Speaker 0

但我还发现了另一个模式,与探索者计划有关。

But there is also another pattern that I found, one with the explorers program.

Speaker 0

桑德拉的故事确实引起了相当多的关注,自2022年左右我第一次听说后,就一直萦绕在我脑海里。

Sandra's story is one that did get a decent amount of attention and had been kind of like living in the back of my brain since 2022, like ish when I first heard about it.

Speaker 0

在深入调查时,印第安纳波利斯当地的一篇文章突然出现并引起了我的注意。

And in digging into that, this local article from here in Indianapolis popped up and grabbed my attention.

Speaker 0

文章日期是2022年4月14日。

It was from 04/14/2022.

Speaker 0

标题写着:'与青少年自杀案有关的IMPD警官被判处撰写周记,这一判决实属罕见'

It said, IMPD officer tied to teen suicide ordered to write weekly journal in rare sentence.

Speaker 0

这简直就像《Crime Junkie》的标题党手法。

And that's kinda like Crime Junkie clickbait.

Speaker 0

是啊。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

当我开始阅读时,有种诡异的既视感——被删除的短信、警察探索者计划。

And when I began reading, I had this weird deja vu, deleted text messages, the police explorers program.

Speaker 0

于是我开始怀疑,或许威廉、马修和罗伯特不只是系统中的几个坏苹果。

So I began to wonder, maybe William and Matthew and Robert weren't a couple of bad apples in the system.

Speaker 0

如果这个计划的设计方式实际上吸引了捕食者,并将儿童置于危险之中呢?

What if the program is designed in a way that actually attracts predators and puts children at risk?

Speaker 0

家长们把孩子送去和警察共事,因为觉得这再安全不过了。

Like, parents are sending their kids off to work with the police because, like, you couldn't be safer.

Speaker 0

对吧?

Right?

Speaker 0

大错特错。

Wrong.

Speaker 0

我调查得越多,发现的就越多。

The more I looked, the more I found.

Speaker 0

我们的记者妮娜和我花了几个月时间,几乎一整年,都在揭露探索者项目中存在的系统性漏洞。

And our reporter, Nina, and I have spent months, the better part of a year, uncovering systematic issues with the Explorers program.

Speaker 0

下周我们将发布一整期节目,详细披露我们发现的所有扭曲事实。

And next week, we are gonna be releasing an entire episode with every twisted detail we found.

Speaker 0

不想等到下周的听众,现在就可以在Crime Junkie粉丝俱乐部收听这期节目。

So for those who don't wanna wait till next week to hear that, you can listen to that episode right now in the Crime Junkie fan club.

Speaker 0

否则就请等到下周正式发布。

Otherwise, it'll be out next week.

Speaker 0

我认为这期节目每个人都应该了解。

And this is an episode I think everyone needs to know about.
