Hello, I'm Lauren Laverne and this is Desert Island Discs Postcards. What's this? I hear you cry. Well, each year we take a short break, which is the perfect time for us to head to the island and revisit some of our favorite castaways with you. But where to start?

Every weekday, we'll be delivering a moment from our desert island directly to you. It could be funny, it could be sad, or it could even just be silly. Think of it as your very own Desert Island Discs postcard. First up this week is the actor and all around legend Dame Judi Dench who is still working hard at 90. Dame Judi has been cast away to the island three times, once by Roy Plumley, again by Sue Lawley and here she is on her most recent visit in 2015 talking to Kirsty Young about her first performances.

There's a wonderful photograph of you that I've seen, a black and white photograph. There's a group of about six or seven little girls. You were almost I think you might be the smallest. And, you know, you're all posing on stage, and to be honest, some of them are looking the other way, some of are not that interested. But there are you, perfectly

One of the other parts that you were given, I think it was in a school play, and you were the fairy in the nativity. Do you remember that?

I still don't like going to bed and hearing people talking quietly in the garden because I know I'm missing something.
