And that was the first time that anybody ever ran a car up that fast with no tires on.

Speaker 2

It almost feels like your eyeballs are gonna come out of your head.

Speaker 4

How are you?

Speaker 4

How was your weekend?

Speaker 0

嗨,Beth。

Hi, Beth.

Speaker 0

I'm very well.

Speaker 0

My weekend was packed full of sport.

Speaker 0

I watched a football match.

Speaker 0

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I watched my local team playing at their stadium.

Speaker 4

Did you win?

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 4

Well done.

Speaker 4

Well, today we're talking all about sports.

Speaker 4

We're talking about watching sports, whether that's on TV or live.

Speaker 4

And when you watch sports live, you go there in person to actually see it happen in real time.

Speaker 0

So Beth, do you enjoy watching sports?

Speaker 4

I do.

Speaker 4

It depends on the sport.

Speaker 4

So I really love watching gymnastics.

Speaker 4

So if there are national championships or world championships or the Olympics, then I really enjoy watching the gymnastics.

Speaker 4

And I normally watch it on TV but I have been to watch it live as well.

Speaker 4

And yeah, I really like that.

Speaker 0

Is it better to watch sport live as in at the stadium or on TV?

Speaker 4

Actually, with gymnastics, I think it's better on TV.

Speaker 4

And that's because when you're in a stadium, true, the atmosphere is amazing with the crowd.

Speaker 4

But you can't really see the events properly because the gymnastics is a sport where there's lots of individual events happening and you can't watch them all at once.

Speaker 4

I I think you're going to say that you prefer watching live sport in person at the stadium.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

So for example, something happened in the game that I saw, and I didn't have any idea what it was.

Speaker 4

Is this at the weekend?

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And I only found out why a particular goal was not allowed when I read it on the website later.

Speaker 0

But I think that's great.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

Because when you're there at the ground, you're in the atmosphere and just totally concentrating on this thing.

Speaker 4

I think I think having the crowd there and they're all making noise, you feel like you're in a big group, the atmosphere, you you can't beat.

Speaker 4

And it's definitely not the same at home.

Speaker 0

It's like a social event because you meet friends, family, go with the kids, and you have a good time all together.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 4

Is there any game that you have seen that really you remember very well because of a particular reason?

Speaker 0

有的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

I've been lucky.

Speaker 0

I've seen quite a lot of really exciting international matches.

Speaker 0

And I saw a really exciting cricket match a couple of years ago with England against Australia, which is a big rivalry.

Speaker 0

And the drama is incredible because we didn't know who was gonna win until the last minute.

Speaker 0

And all of the supporters were going crazy when eventually England won that game.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 4

That's good.

Speaker 4

I think in those events where it's so close, it's like it's nail biting.

Speaker 4

You're literally there like, ah, who is going to win?

Speaker 4

It could go to that team.

Speaker 4

It could go to the other team.

Speaker 4

And yeah, definitely a lot of drama.

Speaker 0

Yeah.

Speaker 0

So that cricket match I was watching was so nail biting.

Speaker 0

It was very exciting and it made me feel very nervous.

Speaker 0

You can imagine when you're nervous, you bite your nails.

Speaker 0

And that's why we say something is nail biting.

Speaker 0

And then when it's over, there's a really great feeling of relief if your team won.

Speaker 4

Exactly.

Speaker 4

I was going to say, if if you win, yes.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I was actually in the same situation this summer, and England lost the game.

Speaker 4

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 4

Not so good.

Speaker 4

不。

No.

Speaker 4

Okay.

Speaker 4

Let's recap the language we heard during the conversation.

Speaker 0

We heard crowd, which is a large group of people, and we can use it to describe the people at a sports match.

Speaker 0

For example, there was a huge crowd at the football match.

Speaker 4

We had atmosphere, which is the general feeling or mood of everyone at an event.

Speaker 4

For example, at the gymnastics, there was a really exciting atmosphere.

Speaker 0

We heard drama.

Speaker 0

And there's often drama at sports matches because unexpected things can happen.

Speaker 4

And we can describe a sports event as nail biting if it's stressful and exciting.
