You're listening to Luke's English podcast. For more information, visit teacherluke.co.uk. Hello, listeners. Welcome back to Luke's English podcast. How are you doing today?

Speaker 4

希望你一切安好。现在为你带来新一期节目。最近我的播客通常会有音频版和视频版两种形式,对吧?音频版可以通过常规渠道获取。

I hope you're doing fine. So here's a new episode for you. Normally, with my podcast these days, I do, an audio version and a video version. Right? The audio version, you can get through the usual ways.

Speaker 4

比如Spotify、Apple Podcasts、Pocketcasts等播客应用,任你选择。而内容大体相同(可能稍短些)的视频版也可以在YouTube观看。今天这期比较特别,因为这是今年早些时候我举办的词汇研讨会的录音。还记得春天时我在节目里提到过那个关于如何学习词汇的Zoom研讨会吗?

Right? Podcast apps like Spotify or Apple Podcasts, Pocketcasts, or whichever podcast app you choose. And then the video version, which is normally more or less the same, maybe slightly shorter, is also available to watch on YouTube. Now this episode today is slightly different because this is a recording of the vocabulary workshop I did earlier this year. Now do you remember in the springtime, I was telling everyone in my episodes about this Zoom workshop that I was doing all about how to learn vocabulary?

Speaker 4

当时研讨会来了不少人,或许你就是其中一员?可能你参加过那场活动。总之研讨会已经办过了。

I did the workshop, and there were quite a lot of people there. Maybe you're one of those people. Maybe you attended the workshop. So I did the workshop. Fine.

Speaker 4

现在我要正式发布它了。在YouTube视频平台,我会上传研讨会本身的录像——至少是我的演讲部分。这就是本期YouTube的内容。但问题是Zoom录音的音频轨道单独作为播客并不理想。

And now I'm actually publishing it. Okay? Now on video, on YouTube, I'll be publishing the recording of the workshop itself, at least my presentation part. That's what's gonna go up on YouTube for this episode. But the thing is the audio track from that Zoom recording doesn't quite work as an audio episode in its own right.

Speaker 4

原因在于研讨会使用了幻灯片,脱离视觉元素效果会打折扣。单纯听音频很难理解,因为我频繁引用了正在展示的视觉资料。所以本期音频节目我将根据幻灯片内容重新录制,希望能成为不依赖画面的纯音频节目。如果想看我准备的演讲幻灯片,可以到我官网的本期节目页面查看。

The reason for that is that I was using slides during the workshop, and I think it won't work without the visual elements. Just listening to the audio on its own won't really work because I make so many references to the visual slides that I was presenting. So what I'm doing with this audio episode is I'm gonna record an episode now based on the content of my slides, but, hopefully, it will work as an audio episode without any visual elements. Now if you'd like to see the slides that I prepared for my talk, you can do that. You'll find them on the website page for this episode on my website.

Speaker 4

明白了吗?那么我们现在开始。接下来我要呈现的是四月份词汇研讨会的音频改编版。这个研讨会核心是教你真正掌握词汇,而非只是盯着单词表。

Okay? But, otherwise, let's now get started. So I'm now gonna do a version, a kind of audio version of the vocabulary workshop I did in April. Okay? So this workshop is all about how to really learn vocabulary and not just stare at word lists.

Speaker 4

这就是我演讲的标题。现在开始吧。本次演讲目的是什么?其实很简单,我想帮大家更高效地学习词汇——毕竟这显然非常重要。

Okay? That's the title of my talk. So let's get started. Now what's the aim of this talk? Well, really, I want to help you to learn vocabulary more effectively because, obviously, this is really important.

Speaker 4

因此我想展示不同的词汇学习方法和资源,希望这期节目能切实帮助你们掌握词汇学习技巧。对吧?具体来说,我要教你们:遇到生词时如何理解、如何记录新词短语、如何记住已发现的表达,最终还能灵活运用它们。

So I want to help you to do that, and I want to show you different methods and resources for learning vocabulary. So, hopefully, this will be a really useful episode for you in learning how to learn vocabulary. Right? So I wanna help you to understand words when you find them, to be able to record them, like keep a record of new words and phrases, to remember words and phrases that you have discovered, and also use them as well. Okay?

Speaker 4

这就是完整的流程:接触新词→理解词义→做好记录→牢固记忆——这个过程本身就值得深入研究。

So this is the kind of the process. You meet new words. You understand what they mean. You keep a record of them. You remember them, and that's a that's a process in itself which you can really work on.

Speaker 4

要知道,这些都是有方法可循的。最终目标是运用新词。你可以将其视为一个循环:发现新词→理解→运用→当你熟悉这些词汇后,未来会更容易注意到它们。我的理解大致如此,对吧?

You know, there's there's ways of doing it. And then, ultimately, how to use new words. You could kind of see it as a process where you discover new words, you understand them, you use them, and then once you've got to know words and phrases, you will probably notice them a lot more in the future. You I kind of think of it like this. Right?

Speaker 4

你知道当你玩像《侠盗猎车手》这样的电脑游戏时。对吧?当你启动《侠盗猎车手》,你会看到游戏世界的地图,而你只探索过其中一小部分。这些已探索区域在地图上对你可见。如果你从未真正造访过地图的其他部分,那些区域对你来说就是不可见的。

You know when you play a computer game like Grand Theft Auto. Okay? Now when you start Grand Theft Auto, you've got the map of the worlds that the game is based in, and you've only you've only visited a few parts of that world. And so those are the areas on the map that are visible to you. If you've never sort of actually visited the other parts of the map, then you can't actually see those areas on the map.

Speaker 4

它们像是被云雾遮蔽了。我认为英语词汇也是如此——那些你不认识、不使用、没学过、没记录过的词,那些你从未真正遇见过的词,就像是地图上未知的区域。正因为你意识不到它们的存在,当这些词出现时你其实根本注意不到。比如听别人说英语时,你肯定有过这种体验:只能听懂部分内容。

They're kind of clouded or obscured. And it's a similar case with words, I think, with English, that the words that you don't know, the words that you don't use, the words that you haven't studied, the words that you haven't recorded, right, the words that you haven't really met before, these are the sort of unknown areas of the map. And because you're not aware of them, you actually don't really notice them when they arrive. So for example, when you're listening to someone speaking, I think you know this experience. You'll be listening to someone speaking in English, and you're only catching some of it.

Speaker 4

也许你能听懂大部分,但总有某些空白处。有些片段你漏掉了,于是你用已知的单词短语来勉强应对。你依靠这些已知片段来维持理解,而不太在意那些不懂的部分。明白我的意思吗?

Maybe you're catching most of what they say, but there are certain gaps. There are bits that you're missing, and you you sort of use the words and phrases that you know in order to help you get by. You use those bits to help you survive, and you don't worry too much about the bits you don't know. Right? Do you know what I mean?

Speaker 4

就像我听人说法语时的感受——抓住能理解的部分,拼凑出整体画面。而那些缺失的、无意识的、跳过的或靠猜测的部分,你甚至不会注意到具体是哪些词。通过主动探索这些未知领域,你实际上能解锁更多语言版图。

This is how it is for me when I'm listening to people speaking French. I kind of hold on to the bits I understand and use those bits to piece together the whole picture. Okay? But the missing parts, the parts that I'm not really aware of, the parts I'm skipping over, or the part the parts that I'm sort of guessing, this stuff, you you don't even notice what these words are. And so by actively exploring those unknown areas, you essentially reveal much more of the language.

Speaker 4

就像揭示更多正在探索的游戏世界地图,从而获得某种掌控感。懂我意思吗?希望你能理解。总之继续往下说——丰富的词汇量对高级英语水平至关重要。

You reveal much more of the map of the world that you're exploring, and that gives you a certain mastery over that over that world. Do you know what I mean? Hopefully, you do. Anyway, let's carry on. So a wide range of vocabulary is vital for an advanced level of English.

Speaker 4

对吧?若想达到高级水平,广博的词汇量是必要条件。以剑桥高级英语证书考试的评分标准为例,比如口语部分,考察C1级别的评判标准就有以下这些...

Right? If advanced is what you're going for, a good wide range of vocab is vital for that level. Okay? And if we talk about the official Cambridge Advanced English Certificate exam assessment criteria, okay, for example, if we think of speaking, the speaking part of a Cambridge exam, and think of the criteria that they use to judge your level at a c one level. So let's just talk about that.

Speaker 4

要想在C1级别拿到满分5分,首先是语法资源——能灵活运用各种语法结构;其次是语篇管理——能流畅输出大段语言而不迟疑,所说内容相关、连贯且多样,能使用多种衔接手段使表达条理清晰。

So if you wanna get a five, five out of five at a c one level, you've obviously got grammatical resource, basically, which means that you can control and use a wide range of grammatical forms. There's discourse management, which allows you to essentially produce extended sections of language easily without without hesitation. You can just produce these large pieces of English quite easily without hesitation. The things you say are relevant, coherent, and varied. You use a wide range of different devices to make the things you say link up together and make sense.

Speaker 4

发音方面最重要的是可理解性——别人能准确听懂你的话,同时你能运用多种语音特征有效传递和强化语义,比如用语调强调,通过句子重音和停顿来突出重点。

In terms of pronunciation, what you're saying is intelligible. This is the most important thing. People can actually understand exactly what you're saying, and that you use a variety of phonological features to effectively convey and enhance meaning. For example, you're able to use intonation to emphasize. You're able to use sentence stress and pausing to emphasize what you're saying.

Speaker 4

此外还有互动交际能力——若在此项获5分,表明你能轻松自如地与人互动:理解他人观点并补充延伸,能拓展对话范围,成功协商沟通场景并达成结果。

That's pronunciation. And then there's another category called interactive communication, which means that, you know, if you get a five, if you if you definitely get c one in this area in your speaking, it shows that you can interact with people easily, comfortably. You can take contributions of other people and interpret what they say and add to what they say. You're able to essentially broaden the scope or range of interaction that you have with other people. You're able to negotiate a sort of spoken communication situation together and reach an outcome successfully.

Speaker 4

这相当于掌握社交对话或会议动态的技巧。最后是词汇资源——要获得C1级别满分,必须能运用大量恰当词汇就熟悉或陌生话题发表和交换观点。显然,词汇量是真正达到高级英语水平五大核心要素之一。

So that's kind of how to manage the dynamics of social conversations or meetings. And then there is the lexical resource, which is, the criteria that relates to vocabulary. And if you if you get a five at c one level in a Cambridge advanced English exam, then you need to use a wide range of appropriate vocabulary to give and exchange views on familiar and unfamiliar topics. So it's definitely one of the five main areas of English that are important to get a truly advanced level of English. You need a wide range of vocab.

Speaker 4

你需要能够,你知道的,调用英语中许多不同的词汇和短语,并在恰当的时机以正确的方式使用它们。明白吗?所以,显然,广泛的词汇量非常非常重要。对于英语来说尤其如此,因为如你所知,英语可能拥有大量词汇。对吧?

You need to, be able to, you know, call upon many different words and phrases in English and use the right one at the right time in the right way. Okay? So, obviously, a wide range of vocabulary is very, very important. And, certainly, for English, this is true because English, as you know, probably has a lot of vocabulary. Right?

Speaker 4

英语是一门非常多样化的语言,拥有许多同义词。对吧?我们经常有含义相同但存在细微差别的词,可能在风格、语体上有所不同。有些词与其他词意思相同,但只是稍微更正式或更随意之类。但关键在于,广泛的词汇量对于高级英语水平至关重要。

It's a very diverse language with many different synonyms. Right? Often, we have words that mean the same thing, but they have slight differences in terms of, maybe the style, the register. You know, some words can mean the same thing as other words, but they're just slightly more formal or less formal and things like that. But the point is a wide range of vocabulary is vital for an advanced level of English.

Speaker 4

所以值得,你知道的,仔细思考并采用正确的方法。是的,扩展词汇量显然非常重要,但我们如何有效做到呢?作为一个观察学生学习英语的老师,我多次看到一个常见错误。这个错误我见过很多次。假设我班上有个学生,我看了他们用来提升词汇的笔记本。

So it's worth, you know, thinking about it carefully and doing it the right way. So, yeah, expanding your vocabulary is obviously very important, but how can we do it effectively? Now there's a common mistake which I've seen many times as a teacher observing my students learning English. I've seen this common mistake many times. So let's say there's a student in my class, and I have a look at their their notebook, which they're using to try to improve their vocabulary.

Speaker 4

对吧?他们在记笔记。这很棒。这实际上根本不是错误,而是非常聪明的做法。

Right? They're keeping a notebook. Now this is great. This is actually not a mistake at all. This is a brilliant thing.

Speaker 4

问题在于记录单词的方式,以及学生试图利用词汇记录来帮助提高英语的方式。对吧?我经常看到的是有人基本上在列单词清单。比如左边写英文单词。

It's just the way that the words are being recorded and the way that the student is attempting to use their vocabulary record to help to help develop their English. Right? So what I often see is someone essentially writing a list of words. Okay? So let's say they've got the English words on the left.

Speaker 4

右边只写着该单词在他们母语中的直接翻译。而且通常只是英语中的单个单词,一个个独立单词配着母语直译,仅此而已。然后学生为了学习这些,就只是盯着清单看,看着左边的英文单词和右边的翻译,反复盯着这些列表。对吧?我一次又一次看到这种情况。

And on the right hand side, they've just got a direct translation of that word, in their first language. And often, it's just single words in English, individual single words with a direct translation into the first language, and that's it. And then what the student does in order to study this is they just look at the list and just kinda stare at it and look at the English word on the left and the translation on the right and just kinda, like, keep staring at these lists. Right? So I've seen it time and time again.

Speaker 4

我认为这不是最有效的词汇学习方法。对吧?这种方法有什么问题呢?首先,它只是单个单词加直译。单个单词的问题是,在英语和任何语言中,单词都不是孤立存在的。

I don't think that's the most effective way to work on your vocabulary. Right? So what's wrong with this approach? Well, first of all, it's just single words with direct translations. The single words thing is that in English and in every language, really, words don't exist on their own.

Speaker 4

对吧?它们必须与其他词搭配使用。你必须尝试在语境中学习它们。正是单词使用的语境真正赋予了它们意义。

Right? They they have to go with others. They have to go with other words. You have to try to learn them in context. It's the context in which words are used that really gives them their meaning.

Speaker 4

显然,单词本身有意义,但当它们与其他词组合使用时才真正鲜活起来。而且,就用法而言,你会发现单词经常与其他词搭配使用。例如,如果是名词,最常与之搭配的动词是什么?可能是像do、have、make这样的词。明白我的意思吗?

Obviously, they words mean things on their own, but, really, they come to life when they're used in combination with other words. And, also, in terms of usage, in terms of the way that words are used, you will find that they are often used with other words. For example, if you're dealing with nouns, what's the most common verb that it goes with? It could just be things like, does it go with do? Does it go with have?

Speaker 4

单独的单词,你得想办法展示它们常与之搭配的其他词。所以添加例句,补充一些关于搭配的小注释会很有帮助。

Does it go with make? You know what I mean? So individual words on their own. You gotta try to find ways to show the other words that that they often go together with. So adding examples, adding little notes about collocations can help.

Speaker 4

但无论如何,单个单词的直接翻译是一种简短高效的方式,对吧?问题在于,英语中的词汇和短语往往无法以相同方式直接对应到其他语言中,可能存在意义细微差别。

But, anyway, single words and then direct translations. So the direct translation, it's a short, efficient way of doing it. Right? But the problem is that often words and phrases, basically English, often doesn't translate directly into other languages in the same way. So there might be shades of meaning that are different.

Speaker 4

这种方法可能导致小错误——你以为某个英语单词与母语中的对应词完全相同,实则不然。有时会遗漏语义差异,产生'假朋友'等误用。这就是单独词汇直译的局限。

You might end up making little mistakes with that where you assume that one thing is the same as another thing, where you assume that an English word is the same as an equivalent word in your language, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes you lose shades of meaning. You you make mistakes in terms of false friends and so on. So there you go. Single words and direct translations.

Speaker 4

此外,这种方法缺乏有意义的语境。我刚强调过语境的重要性,但值得重申:词汇总是与其他词汇相关联,依附于具体情境。要真正记住新词,必须将其与有意义的场景、陈述建立联系。

Also, with this method, there's no meaningful context. I've just talked about the importance of meaningful context, but, you know, I'll mention it again. It's also really important to help you remember words because, you know, words really are attached to other words. Words are attached to meaningful contexts. And for for you to really remember new words, they have to be linked to meanings, meaningful things, meaningful situations, meaningful statements.

Speaker 4

明白吗?若只是逐词替换母语,那并非语言运作的规律。这种方法的另一缺陷是缺少语法语境——我们不仅需要语义背景,还需了解词汇的语法功能规则。

Okay? Otherwise, if you just if you're just trying to replace every word in your first language with an English word one by one, that's not really how language works. So, yeah, another issue with this approach is that there's no grammatical context, and this is really important too. It's not just in terms of meaning that we need context, but also in terms of the way that the words work grammatically. You know?

Speaker 4

它们后接动名词还是不定式?常用于被动结构吗?这就是语法语境。当然还包括词性定义——

Are they followed by gerunds or infinitives? Are they part of typically, of passive structures? You know? So grammatical context. Definitions, obviously.

Speaker 4

属于名词、动词、形容词还是副词?

Parts of speech. Is it a noun? Is it verb? Is it adjective? Is it an adverb?

Speaker 4

如前所述,还需注意搭配、发音(标注重音位置或元音细节)、同反义词、正式程度等。比如这是商务用语吗?

Collocations, as I mentioned before. Pronunciation. Just noting down where the word stress is or maybe noting down little details like what the vowel sound is in the stressed syllable. Synonyms, antonyms, that's similar words or opposite words, formality level or other details. For example, is this sort of a business?

Speaker 4

这个短语常用于商务场合吗?是正式用语还是俚语?另外,该方法缺乏助记技巧——

Is this a phrase that's often used in business? Is this a formal sounding word? Is this a slang word? Okay? Also, there are no mnemonics to help this student remember the words.

Speaker 4

助记法就像帮助记忆的小窍门,稍后会详述。直译可能导致怪异英语:既会产生'假朋友'误用,也会因逐词对应而忽略语法结构差异。

Mnemonics are just like those little tricks that you can use to help you remember things. I'll talk about those in a moment. Direct translations, as I've mentioned, can result in weird English. This is where either you get false friends, assuming that one word means the same as it does, you know, in another language, and there are lots of examples of false friends. But, also, doing it individual word by word, you can end up missing out on the sort of grammatical differences as well, structural differences.

Speaker 4

建议尽量用英语思维运作——特别是中级以上水平者,应尽可能全英文处理一切。你使用英语越多,进步就越快。切勿过度依赖翻译。

So try to operate only in English as well. I recommend certainly at an intermediate level and above, you should try as much as possible to do everything in English. Okay? The more you do in English, the better it is for your English. So try not to just translate everything.

Speaker 4

我刚才提到的那个学生只是盯着单词列表发呆,没有做其他任何事——没有自我测试,没有尝试用新语言表达想法,没有强迫自己真正从记忆中提取词汇并以有意义的方式输出。明白吗?这就是那种仅靠英语单词直译列表的常见基础方法存在的问题。现在让我们系统梳理一下流程,正如之前所说,我们要讨论的是如何注意、理解、记录、记忆并运用词汇的完整过程。

And this student I was talking about just was just staring at at the list, not doing anything else, not testing herself, not trying to use the new language to express ideas, not trying to force herself to actually produce the words and phrases from memory in meaningful ways. Okay? So that was an idea of what's wrong with that basic approach that I've seen so many times of just a list of English words with direct translations. So let's go through a process. Let's talk about the process, as I said before, of noticing, recording you know, noticing, understanding, recording, remembering, and using words.

Speaker 4

那么我们来探讨如何注意和记录新词汇。以下是几个要点:你应该在语境中寻找单词。对吧?你如何发现新词?

So let's talk about how to notice and record new vocabulary. Here are some things to consider. So you should be looking for words in context. Right? How do you discover new words?

Speaker 4

我认为你应该在阅读或听力过程中通过上下文发现新词。假设你正在读一本书、一篇文章、博客帖子之类的材料,或者正在收听播客、观看剧集时,通过这种方式接触到新词汇或短语。

I think you should be discovering them in context while you are reading or while you're listening. Let's say you're reading a book or you're reading an article that you found or a blog post or something, and you come across some new words or phrases, or you're listening to something. You're listening to a podcast or listening to a TV series or whatever it is. Okay? And you discover new words and phrases this way.

Speaker 4

当我们在有意义的语境中发现单词时,能对其含义产生更深刻、更丰富、更直观的理解。我们可以观察单词在句子中的用法,看它如何与周边词汇产生互动,如何融入句子结构——这能帮助我们掌握词汇的语法规则和短语搭配,而不仅仅是孤立记忆单词。英语本质上就是一门注重短语的语言。

Now this gives us a deeper, richer, more intuitive sense of what a word means when we discover it in a meaningful context. We can notice how a word is used in a sentence. We can see how it kind of interacts with the other words around it, how it fits into a sentence, and this helps us to learn the grammar of words and learn phrases, not just individual words. And English is certainly a language of phrases. You can see it like that.

Speaker 4

英语是由大量高频共现的词组构成的。想想短语动词,还有各种固定表达。通过持续接触语境中的语言,词汇的微妙含义和语法环境会在你脑海中不断强化。所以我的建议很简单:大量阅读,大量聆听。

A language of little groups of words that often go together. You know? Think of things like phrasal verbs, but also lots of other fixed expressions. And with continued exposure to language in context, the nuances and grammatical context of a word are reinforced in your mind. So piece of advice, simply read a lot and listen a lot.

Speaker 4

明白吗?但在进行时,请保持对输入语言的有意识觉察。试着主动注意出现的词汇,这时你或许需要警惕那些被自己下意识跳过的内容。

Okay? But while you're doing it, try to be mindful of the language that you're consuming. Okay? Try to notice vocabulary as it comes up. And this is where you've got to perhaps be aware of the bits that you're skipping over.

Speaker 4

要意识到自己知识体系中的空白点——那些模糊不清、一知半解就滑过去的部分,那些在阅读听力时靠脑补蒙混过关的地方。注意这些被遗漏的内容,当陌生词汇出现时保持警觉。稍后我们会讨论如何推测词义、查证释义、建立词汇档案。我建议准备专门的词汇笔记本,但切记不要只记录翻译。

Be aware of the gaps in your knowledge, the sort of the the hazy kind of vague areas that you don't really understand that you skip past. You know, the bits that you the the blanks that you kind of mentally fill in as you're reading and listening. Be aware of those bits that you're missing. Notice this unknown vocabulary as it as it comes up, and we'll talk about how to actually try to guess these words, how to look them up, how to work out what they mean, how to keep a record of them. And you should, I think, consider keeping a vocabulary notebook, but don't just write translations.

Speaker 4

每当我探讨最佳英语学习方法或给出学习建议时,都必须强调:这实际上因人而异,对某人有效的方法可能对他人无效。因此保持开放心态尝试不同方法很有必要。对部分人而言,词汇笔记本确实效果显著;但我也遇到过认为这种方法完全无效的学习者。

Now, you know, whenever I talk about the best way to learn English or when I talk about giving advice for learning English, I always have to remember that, actually, it sort of depends on you, and what works for one person might not work for someone else. So it's always worth being open to experiment and try different things. For some people, keeping vocabulary notebooks really helps. It really makes a big difference. For other people I've met, they've said that it just doesn't work for them.

Speaker 4

归根结底,你必须选择最适合自己的方法。但若能牢记我今天讲的要点,并以某种方式融入你的英语学习习惯,定会有所裨益。如果词汇笔记本确实不适合你,那显然需要寻找替代方案——但你真的尝试过吗?

So ultimately, you've got to go with the approach that definitely works for you. But I think that if you keep a lot of the things I'm saying here in mind and try to apply them to your English learning habits in some way or another, that's gonna be beneficial. So if keeping a vocab notebook just isn't for you, then, obviously, you'll need to just try and find alternative ways. But have you tried it? Have you actually tried it?

Speaker 4

你可能觉得这不适合自己,但究竟有没有真正试过?有没有长期坚持过?我认为值得一试。不妨告诉自己:现在我要更系统地对待这件事,准备一个笔记本作为专属英语词汇本,并规划具体的使用方法。

You might think it's not for you, but have you actually tried it? And you've have you tried it long term? I think it's worth giving it a shot. So you could think to yourself, right, I'm gonna be a little bit more organized about this now. I'm gonna get a notebook and make it my English vocab notebook, and just think about the approach you're gonna use for it.

Speaker 4

它会是什么样子?你使用那个笔记本的日常流程会是怎样的?我稍后会谈到这一点。所以,是的,多读、多听、保持专注,留意出现的词汇,并考虑以某种方式记录新语言,可能是词汇笔记本或其他适合你的方式。好吗?

What's it gonna look like? What's gonna be your routine for using that notebook? I'll talk about that in a moment. So, yeah, read a lot, listen a lot, be mindful, notice vocab as it comes up, and consider keeping some sort of record of new language, probably a vocab notebook or some other way that works for you. Okay?

Speaker 4

现在还有其他你应该做的事情,比如记忆和使用词汇,但首先,让我们考虑如何看到单词以及如何记录它们。所以让我们来看一个例子,关于如何找到一个单词、注意到它、理解它、记录它,然后记住它并使用它。这个过程。想象你正在阅读一篇关于如何学习词汇的文章。对吧?

Now there are other things you should do too, like remembering and using vocabulary, but first, let's consider how to see words and how to record them. So let's consider an example of finding a word, noticing it, understanding it, recording it, and then remembering it and using it. So this process. Imagine you're reading an article about how to learn vocabulary. Right?

Speaker 4

你已经准备好了你的词汇笔记本,准备记录一些新单词。这是你正在阅读的文章中的一个段落。现在让我读给你听这篇文章的第一段。它是这样的。好吗?

You've got your vocabulary notebook ready to record some new words. So here's a paragraph from an article that you're reading. Now let me just read the first paragraph of the article to you. It goes like this. Okay?

Speaker 4

所以请记住,积极与你遇到的单词互动的重要性。不要被动地阅读或听,而是通过将新词汇用在句子中、大声说出来,或将其与难忘的图像或经历联系起来,来积极地与新词汇互动。例如,制作闪卡,一面写单词,另一面写其定义、用法或相关图像。通过积极地与你学习的单词互动,你会加强记忆,提高保留的可能性。好的。

So bear in mind the importance of active engagement with the words you encounter. Instead of passively reading or listening, actively engage with new vocabulary by using it in sentences, speaking it aloud, or associating it with memorable images or experiences. For example, create flashcards with a word on one side and its definition usage or a related image on the other. By actively engaging with the words you learn, you reinforce your memory and increase the likelihood of retention. Okay.

Speaker 4

所以这是你正在阅读的关于如何学习词汇的文章的第一段。好吗?现在让我们在里面找一些词汇。实际上,我们要看整个段落中的第一个单词或第一个短语。你还记得第一个单词是什么吗?

So that's the first paragraph in an article that you're reading about how to learn vocab. Okay? Now let's look for some vocabulary in there. And in fact, we're gonna look at the very first word or very first phrase in the whole paragraph. Do you remember what the first word was?

Speaker 4

嗯,第一个单词,实际上是第一个短语,也就是第一句话,是这样的。请记住积极与你遇到的单词互动的重要性。这是第一句话。那么第一个短语就是“bear in mind”。第一个单词是“bear”。

Well, the first word in fact, the first phrase was the first sentence, let's say, is this. Bear in mind the importance of active engagement with the words you encounter. That's the first sentence. The first phrase then is bear in mind. The first word is bear.

Speaker 4

好吗?所以让我们先来看“bear”这个词。让我们用“bear”作为例子,拼写是b e a r。所以“bear”,这是这个词本身。现在当你看到或听到“bear”这个词时,你会想到什么?

Okay? So let's take the word bear first. Let's use the word bear as an example, spelled b e a r. So bear, here's the word on its own. Now what do you think when you see or hear the word bear?

Speaker 4

你会想到一种动物吗?你会想到一种生活在森林里的大型棕色动物,如果它被人类惹恼了可能会攻击你吗?你知道,你会想到那种熊吗?现在句子的上下文会告诉你很多关于这个词的信息。

Now do you think of an animal? Do you think of a large brown animal that lives in the forest and that could attack you if it was annoyed with humans? You know, do you think of one of them? Do you think of that kind of bear? Now the context of the sentence will tell you a lot about the word.

Speaker 4

好吗?所以在这种情况下,它是“in mind”,即“积极与你遇到的单词互动的重要性”。现在我刚刚说“in mind”,因为我把“bear”这个词从句子中拿出来,只是为了强调这是我们试图弄清楚的东西。所以在这种情况下,它是“in mind”或“bear in mind”,即“积极互动的重要性”。显然,这个上下文会告诉你很多关于这个词的信息。

Okay? So in this case, it was in mind, the importance of active engagement with the words you encounter. Now I've just said in mind because I've taken the word bear out of the sentence in order to just emphasize that this is, let's say, the thing that we're trying to work out. So in this case, it was in mind or bear in mind the importance of active engagement. Now that context, obviously, will tell you a lot about the word.

Speaker 4

好吗?所以我们看这个词,考虑这个词,以及它周围的其他词。在这种情况下,“bear in mind the importance”。好的。现在让我们想象一下,我们正在把这个词添加到我们的词汇笔记本中。

Okay? So we look at the word, consider the word, and the other words around it. In this case, bear in mind the importance. Okay. Now let's imagine, right, that we are adding this word to our vocabulary notebook.

Speaker 4

现在我们应该在笔记本上为‘bear’这个词写些什么呢?注意我还没有定义这个词或短语。显然,你们中很多人知道‘bear’这个词,比如‘bear in mind’。对吧?但我们只是用它作为例子。

Now what should we write in our notebook for the word bear? And notice I haven't defined the word or phrase yet. Obviously, there'll be plenty of you who know the word bear and as in bear in mind. Okay? But we're just using it as an example.

Speaker 4

那么我们应该在笔记本上为‘bear’这个词写些什么呢?如果选择翻译这种方法,仅仅直接翻译作为理解单词的方式,并不总能给出完整的信息。所以我用了一个优秀的在线翻译工具DeepL Translator(类似谷歌翻译),将英文单词‘bear’直接翻译成法语。

So what should we write in our notebook for the word bear then? Now a translation, if we go for that option, if we just do a direct translation as our method of understanding the word, it doesn't always give us the full story. So I've taken the word bear, and I used a deep l translator, which is an excellent translator on the Internet. It's like Google Translate, deep l translator. So I just put the word bear in in English, translated it directly into French.

Speaker 4

对吧?从英语到法语,‘bear’这个词的意思是——就是我之前提到的那个动物。明白吗?但这并没有给出完整的信息,对吧?这种快速直接翻译的方法在这里实际上对我们没有帮助。

Okay? And so from English to French for the word bear is, and that is the animal that I was talking about before. Okay? Now that doesn't give us the full story, does it? That's that quick method of just simply translating the word doesn't actually help us here.

Speaker 4

如果你记得,这是一篇关于记忆词汇的文本。那么这个动物在这里做什么?这就是为什么直接翻译并不总是最佳方法的一个例子,因为一个词的含义远不止它的翻译。对吧?这些是我真正希望你们注意的维度。

So if you remember, this was a text about remembering vocabulary. So what is this animal doing here? So that's just an example of why doing a direct translation is not always the best approach because a word has many more die dimensions to it than just its translation. Okay? And these are the dimensions I really want you to be aware of.

Speaker 4

所以在这个例子中,直接从英语翻译成法语没有奏效,因为它给出了‘bear’这个词的错误含义。以下是一些关于单词除了翻译之外需要注意的事项。我希望你们注意单词的这些维度。当然首先是定义——这个词是什么意思?还有词性——名词、动词、形容词、副词。

So translating directly from English to French in this case did not work because it gave us the wrong meaning of the word bear. So here are some things to note about a word beyond just its translation. Here are some things that I want you to be aware of in terms of the kind of dimensions of a word. So we've got the definition, of course, what does the word mean? We've got the part of speech, noun, verb, adjective, adverb.

Speaker 4

还有词族。对吧?例如,这个词相关的名词形式、动词形式、形容词形式、副词形式。发音——显然是指单词中的声音。

We've got the word family. Okay? For example, the related noun form, verb form, adjective form, adverb form of that word. The pronunciation. So, obviously, the sounds in the word.

Speaker 4

以‘bear’为例,就是b e,基本上是两个音。所以单词中的声音和单词的重音。比如如果是‘pronunciation’这个词,那就是五个音节,重音在第四个音节上。

In the case of bear, that's b e. That's basically two sounds. So the sounds in the word and the word stress. So if, for example, if it's the word pronunciation, that's pronunciation. So that's five syllables with a stress on the fourth syllable.

Speaker 4

对吧?这就是单词重音。然后如果是动词,你还需要考虑过去式或过去分词形式,比如‘rise rose risen’,‘raise raised raised’之类的。我们需要考虑同义词——相似的词,以及反义词——相反的词。

Right? So that's word stress. Then you also need to consider the past or past participle form if it's a verb, you know, like the way we have rise rose risen, raise raised raised, you know, things like that. We need to consider the synonyms. So similar words and antonyms, that's opposite words.

Speaker 4

比如如果是‘rise’,那么同义词可能是‘increase’或‘go up’,反义词就是‘fall’、‘decrease’、‘go down’之类的。搭配——这个词是否与介词、动词、名词、形容词搭配?它是否是多词短语或习语的一部分?以‘bear’这个词为例,一些常见的搭配是‘bear in mind’。

So if it's rise, then similar words would be increase or go up, and antonyms would be fall, decrease, go down, you know, things like that. Collocations. So does the word collocate with prepositions, verbs, nouns, adjectives? Is it part of a multi word phrase or idiom? With the case of the word bear here, some some common collocations are bear in mind.

Speaker 4

对吧?还有其他一些内容我们稍后会看到,但肯定是‘bear in mind’。还有语法——它如何融入句子?它后面跟动名词还是不定式?它经常以否定形式出现吗?

Right? Also, other things as we'll see in a moment, but certainly bear in mind. And the grammar, how does it fit into a sentence? Is it followed by gerunds or infinitives? Is it often in a negative form?

Speaker 4

我们也会以单词‘bear’为例来展示这一点。此外,这个词的语域或风格是正式、非正式、日常、医学、法律等等?例句同样极其重要。当然,这需要时间。如果你要在笔记本上记下所有这些内容,那确实很耗时,不是吗?

And we'll see an example of that as well, with the word bear. And, the register or style of the word, is it formal, informal, everyday, medical, legal, and so on? And example sentences are really, really important as well. Now, of course, this takes time. If you're gonna note down all of those things in your notebook, that takes time, doesn't it?

Speaker 4

这当然需要时间,但我认为如果你更深入细致地研究单词,可能会更有效地理解、记忆和运用它们。毫无上下文地死记100个单词,指望仅靠翻译就能记住并运用,效果微乎其微。不如花时间精研少量单词,以更有意义的方式深入掌握。

Of course, this takes time, but I think if you look at words in more depth and more detail, you will probably understand, remember, and use them more effectively. Looking at a 100 words without context, just hoping that translating them will help you remember and use them is pretty fruitless, and it's a better use of your time to look at a smaller number of words, but look at them in more detail in a more meaningful way.

Speaker 4

如我之前所说,显然你需要选择适合自己的方式。要在学习词汇量和研究深度之间找到平衡。或许你不需要对每个新词都钻牛角尖,只要运用我提到的部分方法就足以帮助你理解和记忆单词。明白吗?不必研究每个词的每个细节,但研究得越深入,对你的英语越有利。

As I've said before, obviously, you need to choose the way that works for you. You need to find a balance between the number of words or phrases you learn and how much you research each one. You know, you might decide that you don't need to go into obsessive levels of detail for every single new word or phrase, And just a few of the things I've mentioned will be enough to help kind of help you understand and and remember the word. Right? You don't have to research every single detail of every single word, but the more you do, the better it is for your English.

Speaker 4

现在我来演示刚才说的内容。以单词bear为例。注意不是指森林里那种爱蜂蜜、会爬树、冬季嗜睡的大型动物。

So let me show you an example of the things I've just said. Let's use the word bear as an example. K. Starting with the word bear. So not the animal, not that animal that lives in the forest, not the large animal that loves honey and climbs trees and sleeps a lot during the winter.

Speaker 4

不,我说的不是那种熊。通过上下文可知,这里讨论的并非动物。还记得这个例句吗:'切记要积极投入你遇到的每个单词'。

No. I'm not talking about that kind of bear. So looking at the context of this word that we discovered shows us that, again, that we're not talking about an animal. So if you remember, was this. Bear in mind the importance of active engagement with the words you encounter.

Speaker 4

好的。现在猜测词义是一项非常重要的技能,你应该多加练习。遇到生词时,总要试着猜测其含义。所以在脑海中,积极投入的重要性。你还能用哪个词来填补这个空缺?

Okay. So now guessing the meaning of words is a very important skill which you should practice. Always guess what new words mean when you find them. So in mind, the importance of active engagement. What other word could you use to fill this gap?

Speaker 4

这就是你可以用来猜测新词的过程。比如,如果你把那个词从句子中去掉,你还能放哪些词进去让句子通顺?所以可以是'牢记积极投入的重要性'。明白吗?'铭记积极投入的重要性'。

This is the process that you can use to guess new words. Like, what other words could you if you'd remove that word from a sentence, which other words could you put in there and have the sentence make sense? So it could be keep in mind the importance of active engagement. Okay? Hold in mind the importance of active engagement.

Speaker 4

也许用'记住'。'记住积极投入的重要性'。对吧?这些词都可以用,实际上这或多或少告诉了你'bear'在这里的意思。'Bear in mind'意味着'牢记'、'铭记'或'记住'。

Maybe remember. Remember the importance of active engagement. Okay? So all of those words could work, and that actually does tell you more or less the meaning of the word bear here. Bear in mind means keep in mind, hold in mind, or remember.

Speaker 4

现在我们需要考虑在笔记本上写什么。我们页面上有'bear'这个词。记得之前的清单:定义、词性、词族、发音、过去式或过去分词形式、同义词、反义词、搭配、是否属于短语、词语的语法、语域或风格,以及至关重要的例句。有这么多内容。但问题是,你如何找到所有这些信息?

Now we need to consider what to write in our notebook. So we've got the word bear on the page. So remember this list from before, the definition, the part of speech, the word family, the pronunciation, the past or past participle form, synonyms, antonyms, collocations, whether it's part of a phrase, the grammar around the words, the register or style of the word, and, crucially, example sentences. So there's that whole list of stuff. But thing is, how do you find all that information?

Speaker 4

你怎么知道所有这些信息?你可以通过查看例子来推断,但如果有一个免费工具能告诉你关于新词的一切信息,那会很有帮助,不是吗?当然,有很多这样的工具可供你使用。词典,当然。为英语学习者设计的词典。

How do you know all that sort of stuff? Now you can you can work it out by looking at examples, but it would really help, wouldn't it, if there was a free tool that could tell you everything you need to know about new words? Well, of course, there is there are plenty available to you. Dictionaries, of course. Dictionaries for learners of English.

Speaker 4

在线词典。有很多非常好的在线词典可以免费使用。例如,我通常使用牛津学习者词典在线版。我用剑桥词典。我用朗文当代英语词典在线版。

Dictionaries online. There are plenty of really good online dictionaries which you can use free. For example, I typically use Oxford Learner's Dictionary online. I use Cambridge dictionaries. I use the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English online.

Speaker 4

我用collinsdictionaries.com,也用麦克米伦词典。我们就以朗文当代英语词典在线版为例吧。这是个非常好的词典,专为英语学习者设计。

I use collinsdictionaries.com, and I use Macmillan as well. Let's just look at the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English online as an example. Right? It's a really good dictionary. It's designed for learners of English.

Speaker 4

如果我们在朗文当代英语词典在线版中查找'bear'这个词,我们会得到大量信息,丰富的信息。我喜欢用'plethora'这个词。它告诉我们词族。我想最主要的是它告诉我们定义。对吧?

If we look up the word bear in the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English online, we get loads of information, a plethora of information. I love using that word plethora. So it tells us the word family. So I guess the main thing is it tells us the definition. Right?

Speaker 4

有几个定义。它有好几个不同的定义。第一个是处理某事,勇敢地接受或应对痛苦、困难或令人不安的情况。同义词是'stand'。例句有助于让这个定义生动起来。

And there's a few definitions. It's got a number of different definitions. The first one is to deal with something, to bravely accept or deal with a painful, difficult, or up or upsetting situation. The synonym is stand. Example sentences help to bring this definition to life.

Speaker 4

例如,她害怕自己无法忍受疼痛。比如,你知道,她要去看牙医。她非常害怕。她希望他们会给她麻醉。她希望他们会给她麻醉,因为她害怕自己无法忍受疼痛。

For example, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to bear the pain. Like, you know, she was going to the dentist. She was really scared. She was hoping that they would give her an anesthetic. She was hoping that they would give her an anesthetic because she was afraid she wouldn't be able to bear the pain.

Speaker 4

对吧?能够忍受或抵抗痛苦。过度拥挤使监狱生活更加难以忍受。监狱生活本就难熬,但当监狱人满为患时,就更令人难以承受。所以这个词意味着勇敢接受或应对痛苦、困难或令人不安的处境。

Right? Being able to stand the pain or resist the pain. Overcrowding makes prison life even harder to bear. Prison life is hard to bear anyway, but when the prison is overcrowded, that makes it even harder to bear. So it means to bravely accept or deal with a painful, difficult, or upsetting situation.

Speaker 4

好的。现在它确实提供了其他信息。它给出了这个词的词族。名词形式是bearer(承受者)。形容词是bearable(可忍受的)或unbearable(无法忍受的)。

Okay. Now it does give other information. It gives us the word family. The noun is the bearer. Adjective is it's bearable or unbearable.

Speaker 4

动词形式是to bear(忍受)。副词形式是bearably(可忍受地)或unbearably(难以忍受地)。它还告诉我们英式和美式英语中bear的发音,并会给出时态变化。

The verb is to bear. The adverb is bearably or unbearably. Okay. It tells us the pronunciation bear in English and American English. It will give us the the tense.

Speaker 4

过去式是bore(如果你看动词形式),过去分词是born。这是它的第一个定义。第二个定义是短语can't bear(无法忍受),对吧?

The past tense is bore if you're looking at the verb, and born is the past participle. Okay. Now this is just the first definition of it. Then the second definition is the phrase can't bear. Right?

Speaker 4

例如:'我实在受不了现在这么热的天气'。第三个定义是bear in mind(牢记),也就是我们正在讨论的这个。它的意思是记住一个重要事实或信息,可能在未来用得上。类似于keep something in mind(把某事记在心里)。

For example, I just can't bear the hot weather at the moment. Okay? And the third definition is bear in mind, which is the one that we're looking at. If we look at that, bear in mind means to remember a fact or piece of information that's important or could be used in the future. Similar to keep something in mind.

Speaker 4

是的。'要记住有些孩子需要帮助'。'谢谢,我会记住的'。

Yes. Bear in mind that some children will need help. Okay? Oh, thanks. I'll bear that in mind.

Speaker 4

我说过会把他的建议记在心里。'游客必须牢记他们在另一个国家是访客'。一本好词典,比如《朗文当代英语在线词典》,能提供理解一个单词所需的所有全方位信息。我创建了一个小示例,展示你可以在词汇笔记本里记些什么。

I said I would bear his suggestion in mind. Tourists must bear in mind that they are visitors in another country. Okay. Basically, a dictionary, a good dictionary, like the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English online, can give you all of the information that you need to really understand a word 360 degrees. And I've created a little example of what you could write in your vocabulary notebook.

Speaker 4

所以我们有单词bear。有英式发音bear,美式发音bear。动词形式bear, bore, born。定义是勇敢接受困难处境,同义词stand(忍受),还有大量例句。

So we've got the word bear. We've got pronunciation in the in British English, bear. In American English, bear. The verb form, bear, bore, born. The verb to bravely accept a difficult situation, so the definition with a little synonym of stand and lots of example sentences.

Speaker 4

她无法忍受这种痛苦。监狱生活难以忍受。我承受不了这种压力/压力/高温。这超出了我的承受范围。我实在受不了了。

She couldn't bear the pain. Life in prison is hard to bear. I can't bear the pressure, the stress, the heat. It's more than I can bear. I just can't stand it.

Speaker 4

这是同义词,你只能苦笑着忍受。第二个定义bear in mind(牢记),就是文章中出现的那个,意思是记在心里、考虑、记住。例如:'记住这个之后可能会出现在考试中'。'谢谢,我会记住的'。

So that's a synonym, and you just have to grin and bear it. Second definition, bear in mind, which is the one that came up in the article, meaning keep in mind, consider, remember. For example, bear in mind that this might be in the test later. Thanks. I'll bear that in mind.

Speaker 4

第三个是正式用法,承担费用、负担或责任。客户将承担燃料危机的成本。然后是第四个,'bear with me',意思是稍等我做某事。比如当你打电话给公司咨询时,他们会说'请稍等,我查下电脑'。

Third one, a formal one, bear the costs, bear the burden, bear the responsibility. Customers will bear the costs of the fuel crisis. And then a fourth one, bear with me, meaning wait while I do something. Just bear with me for a moment. For example, when you call a company to get information, and they will say, just bear with me while I check on the computer.

Speaker 4

明白了吗?好。我甚至还准备了张熊的图片,标注发音为'bear',强调它同时也是名词指动物。还有张啤酒图片,就是酒吧里喝的那种,发音是'beer'。这样展示'beer'和'bear'的发音区别。

Okay? Alright. I've even got a picture of a bear with the pronunciation bear saying it's all it's also a noun, an animal, a bear. And I've got a picture of a beer, you know, the beer that you drink when you go to the pub, and that's the pronunciation ear. So beer, just showing that the pronunciation of beer and bear is different.

Speaker 4

对,内容相当详细。所以与其列词汇表,不如为新词创建专属页面。尝试用图表或视觉化呈现,而非单纯列表。比如我写的这个页面就包含音标插图、定义例句和周边注释。

Right. Quite a lot of detail. So instead of making lists to remember vocab, try to write pages for your new vocabulary. Try to think of diagrams or slightly different visuals instead of just a list. For me, I've written a page with a little picture with phonemes, with definitions and examples, and other little notes all around it.

Speaker 4

懂吗?现在用数字工具可能更好,比如Google文档、手机备忘录或其他你惯用的笔记应用。总之这就是研究和记录词汇的方法。接下来的挑战是如何记忆和复用这些词。

Okay? Now it might be better to do this digitally, you know, with Google Docs or Notes or some other application on your phone, whatever you prefer to use to keep notes. But there you go. That's how you kind of research and record words. Now the next challenges are how to remember words and how to use them again.

Speaker 4

让我们回到那个制作单词表的学生案例——左边英文右边直译。如我之前所说,她只是盯着列表试图记住上面的词。但她在做什么?难道指望单词自动从纸上飘进大脑并永久停留吗?因为记忆单词时关键要做到以下几点。

So let's go back to the student that I talked about making word lists, okay, with the English word on the left and the direct translation on the right. As I said before, this student was just staring at the list, just trying to remember the words written there. But what what is she actually doing? Is she just reading the lists, expecting the words to magically drift from the page into her brain and then stay there? Because so when trying to remember words, it's important to do these things.

Speaker 4

在语境中记忆单词。不要孤立地看单词。将词汇融入有意义的句子。采用间隔重复法逐步延长复习周期。间隔重复本质上是通过小测试来检验单词记忆效果,比如根据提示回忆单词,然后隔天复习,三天后再复习,接着一周后、一个月后——每次复习间隔逐渐拉长。

Remember words in meaningful context. Don't just look at words in isolation. Include your words in meaningful sentences. Use spaced repetition to review language at increasing intervals. Spaced repetition is basically a way that you kind of test your memory of words that you're learning by doing some little test where you just have to remember the word with a prompt, and then doing it again maybe a day later, and then doing it again maybe three days later, and then doing it again a week later, and then a month later, every time you review the word, you wait a bit longer.

Speaker 4

通过分散复习时间,记忆效果会更好。本质上这是种温习方法——初次接触后立即复习,之后定期回顾但每次间隔更久。像Anki或Quizlet这类闪卡应用就是专为间隔重复设计的。

And by spacing out this repetition, you're more likely to be able to remember it. Okay? Essentially, it's kind of like reviewing or revising words. You do it again as soon as you find the word, and then you revisit that word on a regular basis, but you wait a little bit longer each time. Now flashcard apps can help like Anki or Quizlet, and they actually are designed to help you do this method of spaced repetition, Anki, Quizlet.

Speaker 4

以Anki为例,你可以自制闪卡:比如一面写含空缺单词的例句,配图辅助记忆,再加个同义词之类作为线索。然后尝试回忆答案并念出来,最后揭晓答案。Anki还能让你反馈记忆难度。

If we have a look at if we consider using a flashcard app like Anki, the way it works is that you can create your own flashcards. For example, on one side, you would write perhaps even just an example sentence with the word missing, and you could include a picture to help you remember it and maybe a synonym or something like that. And so you've created a clue. Then you, you know, you try to remember the answer and maybe say it out loud, and then the then you can reveal the answer. And with Anki, you can then give yourself a bit of feedback.

Speaker 4

例如这个词是否容易记住?根据难易程度,Anki会很快或稍后再次提醒你。如果容易记,下次复习间隔就长些;如果难记,很快就会再次出现这个词。

For example, was it easy to remember word? Was it difficult to remember the word? And depending on how easy or difficult it was to remember, Anki will remind you of that word again either very soon or it'll make you wait a bit longer. So if it was easy to remember the word, Anki will wait a little bit longer before it makes you review that word again. If it was difficult to remember the word, Anki will sort of bring that word back to you very soon.

Speaker 4

明白运作原理了吗?记不住的词会频繁出现,记住的词则延长提醒间隔。总之用闪卡应用可以自建卡组或导入现成套卡。

Right? You see what see the way it works? So the words you can't remember, it's it's gonna constantly remind you, and the words you can remember, it'll wait a little bit longer before it reminds you. Okay. So using using flashcard apps, you can create your own decks of cards or import premade ones.

Speaker 4

你可以使用提示来帮助记忆单词,我认为应该始终包含一个例句。其他线索也有帮助,比如图片、同义词等。看着提示回忆单词,说出完整句子并补全缺失的单词。应用会记录你记住和未记住的单词,让你能优先练习需要复习的词汇。

You use prompts to help you remember the word, and you should always include an example sentence, I think. Other clues can help, like an image or a synonym or something. You look at your prompts and remember the word. Say the whole sentence and add the missing word. The app will remember which words you remember and don't remember and will allow and will allow you to prioritize the ones you need to practice again.

Speaker 4

间隔重复法能帮助你随时间记住单词,它会鼓励你逐渐延长复习间隔,反复接触目标词汇。这就是间隔重复。你还需要尝试主动回忆——主动回忆意味着要从记忆中提取新单词并自我测试。

And spaced repetition, this method, helps you to remember words over time as you're encouraged to wait longer and longer before being shown the target vocabulary again and again. So that's spaced repetition. You also have to try to practice active recall. Active recall. So this means you should try to retrieve new words from memory and test yourself.

Speaker 4

所以不要只是看新单词。你必须自己想起这些词,从记忆中检索它们,真正凭空生成这些词。明白吗?比起看着单词跟读,试着面对空白处,让大脑回忆单词,从无到有地提取,真正激活记忆功能说出或写出单词。小提示和小线索能帮你做到这点。

So don't just look at new words. You actually have to come up with those words yourself, retrieve them from your own memory, and actually produce the words, from nothing. Right? Rather than just looking at the word and saying it, try to look at nothing or gap and get your brain to remember the word, to pull it out of thin air, to actually make your memory do its job and say the word or write it. Little prompts, little clues can help you to do this.

Speaker 4

你可以自创填空记忆测试来辅助。比如把例句复制到谷歌文档或Word里,然后把目标词替换成下划线。可以保留首字母,甚至用短线表示单词字母数。本质上就是让句子缺少目标词。

You could create your own gap fill memory tests to help you with this. So, basically, you would copy paste example sentences into a Google document, for example, or a Word document, and then the and then replace the target words with gaps. Just a line, including the first just a line. Including the first letter can help, maybe even including little gaps to show how many letters there are in the word. But, essentially, you've got your sentence, but with the word, the target word missing.

Speaker 4

接着你尝试回忆目标词,再对照原句核对。你手上有填空版句子和下方完整版原句。看着填空版回忆,口头或书面作答后检查答案。明白吗?这是个简单的记忆训练。

And then you just try to remember what the target word was, and then you look at the original sentences. So you've got the gapped sentences and then the original sentences with the words included below. And, you know, you just look at the gapped ones, try and remember what it is, say it or write it, and then check your answers. You know? It's a simple little memory exercise.

Speaker 4

记忆技巧很有用。对,助记法。这些记忆小窍门能帮助你记住东西。稍后我们会看些例子。

Mnemonic tricks can help. Right. Mnemonics. These are little memory tricks to help you remember things. We'll look at some examples in a moment.

Speaker 4

助记法本质上通过建立词汇联想发挥作用。它能将新词与你已知事物关联——这是记忆的关键环节。你要找到方法将新事物与脑中已有知识建立联系。比如我用法语记某些词时就用了助记技巧。我要讲法语中三种鞋类的单词。

So mnemonics basically work by helping you to create word associations. So mnemonics can help you to connect new words to things that you already know, which is a really crucial part of being able to remember things. You essentially find a way to link this new thing with something that that you already know that's that's already in your brain. So here's an example of how I remember some words in French, and I use little mnemonic devices to help me remember them. And I'm gonna talk about the three words for certain types of footwear in French.

Speaker 4

就是鞋子、袜子和拖鞋的法语词。对吧?拖鞋是居家穿的那种,套在脚上很舒适,在家里走动时保暖用。

So it's the word for shoe, the word for sock, and the word for slipper in French. Right? Slippers are those things you wear in your home. They're kind of comfortable things you slip on your feet when you're walking around your home. Keep your feet warm.

Speaker 4

好。鞋子、袜子和拖鞋。法语里鞋子的词是...袜子的词是...拖鞋的词是...明白吗?

Okay. So shoes, socks, and slippers. Now in French, the word for shoe is. The word for sock is, and the word for slipper is. Okay?

Speaker 4

这几个词很相似。它们确实很相近,我经常混淆这些词,想说'抱歉我先穿下袜子'之类时总要卡壳。总会有那种停顿——我努力回想:等等,是那个词吗?就像挣扎着找合适的词。

Pretty similar words. Now they're pretty similar words, and I actually often confuse these words and often struggle when I'm trying to say, you know, oh, I'm sorry. Let me just put my socks on or something like that. There's always like that pause where I'm trying to remember. Is it, wait a minute, is it, you know, kind of like struggle to find the right word.

Speaker 4

现在我想出了一些小助记法来帮助记忆。比如,这些是鞋子(shoes)。我怎么记住呢?因为它听起来有点像‘sure’(确信),当你穿着鞋子时会感到确信。明白吗?

Now I've come up with little mnemonics to help me remember. So, these are shoes. How how do I remember that? Because sounds a bit like sure, and you feel sure when you're wearing shoes. You know?

Speaker 4

你会感到确信。你会感到自信和确信。所以,这就是鞋子。对吧?虽然这个方法并不完美。

You feel sure. You feel confident and sure. So, this is shoes. Right? Now it's not perfect.

Speaker 4

对吧?那个小小的记忆技巧并不完美,但对我有效,这才是关键。你得找到适合自己的小方法。你得尝试‘黑’进自己的记忆系统。穿上鞋子时你会感到确信。

Right? That little memory device isn't perfect, but it works for me, and that's the crucial thing. You've gotta find little ways that work for you. You've gotta try and hack your own memory. You feel sure when they're on their shoes.

Speaker 4

‘is’是表示小的后缀。对吧?这是个常见后缀,英语里也有。意味着它是一个指小后缀。

Is is diminutive. Right? It's a common suffix. It's it's in English as well. Means it's a diminutive suffix.

Speaker 4

它表示‘小’。而这些都是最小的。是的,三者中最小的就是袜子(socks),对吧?所以最小的——袜子。我就是这样记住的。

It means small. And, these are the smallest ones. And, yes, the smallest of the three, that's socks, isn't it? So the smallest ones, socks. That's how I remember that.

Speaker 4

是袜子。首先,它不是另外两个。它不是‘确信’的那个,也不是‘最小’的那个。既然不是前两者,那就是拖鞋(slippers)。而且,它们是‘滑’(slip)着穿上的。

Is socks. And, well, first of all, it's not the other two. It's not it's not you're sure, and, the small ones. It's not the other two, so it's slippers. But also, they slip on.

Speaker 4

对吧?它们滑上你的脚。所以‘on’就像‘穿上’。就是这样。这就是我记法语单词的小助记法。

Right? They slip on your feet. So that's is like on. So there you go. That's my little mnemonic method for remembering in French.

Speaker 4

这就是我说的助记法。明白吗?几年前我做过一整期关于助记法和英语学习的节目,你可以去听那期获取更多具体的实用助记法例子。那期节目叫第167期《记忆、助记法与英语学习》。

So that's kind of what I mean about mnemonics. Okay? I did a whole episode about mnemonics and learning English a few years ago, so you could listen to that for more specific examples of useful mnemonics. Right? And it's called the episode is called 167 memory, mnemonics, and learning English.

Speaker 4

助记法(mnemonics)拼写是m-n-e-m-o-n-i-c-s。第167期节目《记忆、助记法与英语学习》,如果你想了解更多具体的助记法例子和如何用它们学英语。好,这就是关于建立单词联想。

And mnemonics is spelled m e sorry. M n e m o n I c s. 167, episode a 167 memory, mnemonics, learning English if you want more specific, examples of mnemonics and how to learn English with them. Okay. So that's, creating word associations.

Speaker 4

另外,还是关于助记法和单词记忆——创造荒诞生动的图像能帮助你记住事物。荒诞且生动的图像。现在跳出思维定式,当你遇到新词时,想象那些能引起你共鸣的具体画面。对吧?这个过程可以包括在脑海中想象非常鲜明生动的场景,这有助于记忆。

Also, still on the subject of mnemonics and remembering words, creating absurd and vivid images can help you to remember things. Absurd and vivid images. Now think outside the box and imagine specific images which resonate with you when you find new words. Right? Part of the process could be to imagine something very vibrant, vivid in your in your mind, and that can help you remember.

Speaker 4

如此荒诞生动的画面,你的大脑会记得更牢。让我们举些例子。抱歉,请稍忍耐一下。这里的荒诞画面是——想象有人正打电话时在电脑上查找东西。

So absurd and vivid images, your brain remembers better. So let's let's take some examples. Sorry. Just bear with me for a moment. Now the absurd and vivid image here is that you can imagine someone on the telephone trying to find something on a computer.

Speaker 4

他们正和客户通话,说着'抱歉请稍等',而办公桌旁竟坐着一头巨熊。'抱歉,您得和熊一起等我'——因为真有头熊在这儿。

You know, they're talking to a customer on the phone, and they're saying, sorry. Just bear with me for a moment. And there is a massive bear sitting next to them at their desk. Sorry. You'll just have to bear with me for a moment because there's a bear with me.

Speaker 4

再比如'我实在受不了了'。想象一个男人扛着灰熊穿行城市,气喘吁吁地说'我受不了了,这熊太重了'。

Another example is I just can't bear this any longer. Like, I just can't bear this heat. It's too hot. I can't bear this any longer. You could imagine a man walking through a city, and he's carrying a huge grizzly bear.

Speaker 4

还有短语'我会牢记'。可以想象某人被劈开的脑袋里有只熊,他说'熊(bear),我会牢记的'。

And it's really hard work, and he's going, I just can't bear this any longer because this bear is so heavy. And another phrase, thanks. I'll bear that in mind or bear in mind the importance of this. You could imagine a man with a bear in his mind. You could imagine a a person and half his head's been sliced open, and inside there's just a bear in there, and he's going bear I'll bear that in mind.

Speaker 4

荒诞鲜活的画面往往有效。对我鲜活的画面未必适合你,你需要找到自己觉得生动的联想。另外,将新词与情感或个人经历关联能强化记忆。

Strange images, vivid images often work. And images that are vivid for you, those are images that are vivid for me, but you would need to think of something that's kind of vivid for you. Okay. Also, making emotional or personal connections to new words really helps you remember them. So use new language to say something which is emotionally significant to you.

Speaker 4

试着用'我无法忍受...'、'请记住...'等句式创造个性化例句。比如'我无法忍受地铁拥挤',这样更有记忆点。

Think of examples. Personalize your examples. So if we're dealing with I can't bear, I can't bear it when, I can't bear the thought of, try to bear in mind, and sorry, I'm just dealing with something. I'll be ready in a moment. Just bear with me for a moment.

Speaker 4

以我为例:'我无法忍受地铁拥挤的窒息感'、'请记住夏季地铁又闷又挤,要避开高峰'、'抱歉我正在地铁上听不清,请稍等'。

Okay? If you try and use those phrases, try and make them personal and meaningful to you. So for example, for me, I would say, just can't bear it when the metro is so crowded. I feel really claustrophobic. I can't bear the thought of getting stuck on the metro when it's crowded.

Speaker 4

这些对我有意义的例子,你需要创造属于自己的版本。同时要通过控制性和自由练习来运用新词。

It just makes me kind of panic. Try to bear in mind that the metro gets very hot and crowded during the summer, so you should avoid it at rush hour. And sorry. I'm on the metro, and I can't hear what you're saying. Sorry.

Speaker 4

控制性练习比如填空造句,或按要求改写句子。这些都是巩固词汇的基础训练。

I can't hear you. Just bear with me for a moment. Those are examples that sort of mean something to me. You'd need to come up with examples that mean something to you to help you remember them. And, also, try to use new words in controlled and free ways.

Speaker 4

自由练习则是更灵活地运用。就像我们之前做的填空练习,或是用目标词汇重构句子,都属于控制性练习范畴。

So controlled practice and free practice. When I say controlled practice, this means probably just putting words into sentences. You know? Like us like we had before, sentences with the words missing, you gotta put the word back into the sentence, or maybe finding ways to sort of rewrite sentences using the words that you're looking for. This is all controlled practice.

Speaker 4

而自由练习更像是用目标语言表达自我。我提到的所有这些方法,都适用于付费节目。如果你是付费听众,可能已经注意到很多这类内容。我们总会有大量控制性练习,比如需要你快速回忆哪个词该填入句子的哪个位置,用正确形式的词语填补空缺。自由练习则是我给你讨论问题让你课后回答,或是让你尝试用特定词汇讲故事。

And free practice is more like just sort of expressing yourself using the target language. And, you know, all of the things I'm talking about, I apply all of these things to premium episodes. So if you're a premium listener, you've probably noticed a lot of this stuff. There's always a lot of control practice where you have to sort of remember which word goes in which sentence just to kind of quickly fill the gap in the sentence with the right word in the right form. And then free practice, that's where I give you discussion questions to answer in your own time, or maybe I ask you to sort of tell stories trying to use certain words.

Speaker 4

如何将这些词汇组织成有意义的上下文完全取决于你。这就是控制性练习与自由练习的区别。记得要大声说出来,别只在脑子里或纸上练习。尽可能将书面文字转化为口头表达。

And it's basically up to you how you put those words into some sort of meaningful context. So controlled practice and free practice. And speak out loud. Don't just do it all in your head or on paper. Try and convert the written word into the spoken word if you can.

Speaker 4

你可以让ChatGPT提供些对话练习问题。比如我这样问它:'嗨伙计'——我对ChatGPT很友好,万一哪天它统治世界了,可能会消灭所有对它粗鲁的人。因为我态度友善,它就会饶我一命,懂吧?所以我说'嗨伙计'。

Now you could ask chat GPT to give you some conversation questions. For example, this is this is what I asked chat GPT. I said, hi, mate, because I'm trying to be friendly to chat GPT in case it takes over the world one day and decides to eliminate all this all the people who are rude to it. And because I'm friendly to chat GPT, it'll it'll let me live, you see. So hi, mate.

Speaker 4

能给我些对话问题来练习这些表达吗?比如:无法忍受、想到就受不了、稍等我一下、请记住、超出承受范围、难以忍受。

Can you give me some conversation questions to help me practice using these expressions? Can't bear it. Can't bear the thought of. Bear with me. Bear in mind.

Speaker 4

ChatGPT回复说:当然可以。以下是运用这些表达的对话问题清单,它给了一大串我能自测的问题。比如:你能想到某个完全无法忍受的场景或经历吗?

More than I can bear and hard to bear. And chat GPT said, of course. Here are some conversation questions utilizing those expressions, and we it gave me a big list of questions that I could use to practice on my own. Questions such as these. Can you think of a situation or experience that you simply can't bear?

Speaker 4

是什么让你觉得如此难以忍受?你可以回答:当地铁特别拥挤时我就受不了,因为会很不舒服,我开始感到幽闭恐惧。那么多人挤在一起时,我甚至觉得呼吸困难。说实话,现在光是想想都让我感到压力。这是第一个问题。

What makes it so intolerable for you? And you would say, well, I just can't bear it when the metro is really crowded because it gets very uncomfortable and I start to get claustrophobic. And when there's so many people there together, I start to find it hard to breathe. In fact, it's making me feel stressed now just thinking about it. So that was the first question.

Speaker 4

其他问题包括:你是否遇到过让你难以承受的想法?具体是什么?为什么难以接受?能否分享你曾让人稍等的经历?你想传达什么?对方反应如何?做重要决定时,你如何确保自己考虑到某些因素?能举例说明吗?后面还有更多问题。

Other questions would be, have you ever encountered a thought or idea that you couldn't bear? What was it, and why was it so difficult for you to accept? Can you share a time when you've asked someone to bear with you? What were you trying to convey, and how did they respond? When making important decisions, how do you ensure that you bear certain factors in mind?

Speaker 4

这类问题能帮你进行自由口语练习。你还可以要求它纠正错误。于是我对ChatGPT这样说...

Can you give an example? And it goes on with more questions. So you could use questions like that to essentially give yourself some free speaking practice. You could also ask it to correct your errors. So I said this to ChatGPT.

Speaker 4

实际上我是这么写的:'我会回答那些问题,你能帮我纠错吗?我是英语学习者。'ChatGPT当然很乐意帮忙。

In fact, I wrote this to it. I said, I'll give some answers to those questions. Can you correct my errors? I'm a learner of English. And, of course, ChatGPT was happy to do it.

Speaker 4

我写了这句话:'I can't bear go to the supermarket when is busy.'这里面有好几处错误。ChatGPT回复说:'你的句子基本正确...'

And I wrote this. I wrote, I can't bear go to the supermarket when is busy. There's like several errors in that. I can't bear go to the supermarket when is busy. And chat GPT said, your sentence is almost perfect.

Speaker 4

这非常鼓舞人心。只需稍作调整。我实在受不了去超市。所以有些事情需要注意。对吧?

It's very encouraging. Just a small adjustment. I can't bear to go to the supermarket. So there's something to notice. Right?

Speaker 4

如我之前所说,从语法上讲,这里'can't bear'后面接不定式。超市人多时我实在受不了去。继续保持好状态。明白了吗?所以你可以用ChatGPT来辅助学习。

As I said before, grammatically, can't bear is followed by an infinitive here. I can't bear to go to the supermarket when it's busy. Keep up the good work. You see? So you can use chat GPT to help you.

Speaker 4

我们即将接近尾声。好吗?总结一下:大量阅读和听力练习。注意新词并在语境中学习。记录词汇时要详细,不仅是翻译或定义。

So we are nearly at the end here. Alright? In summary then, read and listen a lot. Notice new words and study them in context. Record vocabulary with lots of details, not just a translation or definition.

Speaker 4

积极练习从记忆中调取词汇。不要只是看列表,要真正尝试从记忆中回忆词汇并说出来或写下来。闪卡或记忆练习会有所帮助。构思生动且个人化的例子或记忆法。主动使用新词汇表达自己,与他人或独自大声练习。

Practice actively recalling the vocabulary from your memory. Don't just look at the lists, but actually try to recall the vocab from your memory and say it or write it. Flashcards or memory exercises can help. Think of vivid and personal examples or mnemonics to help you. Use new vocabulary actively to express yourself and speak out loud with other people or on your own.

Speaker 4

尽可能获取反馈,可以通过语言教师或像ChatGPT这样的人工智能。保持积极心态,享受学习英语的过程,按自己的方式学习。我提到的工具包括在线词典,主要推荐的是朗文当代英语在线词典,网址应该是ld0ceonline.com。

Get some feedback if you can using a language teacher or maybe AI like ChatGPT. And, generally, stay positive. Enjoy learning English, and do it your way. Some tools I mentioned, there are those online dictionaries. The one that I mentioned mostly was the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English online, ld0ceonline.com, I think it is.

Speaker 4

Ld0ceonline.com。对,就是朗文当代英语在线词典。闪卡应用我推荐Anki和Quizlet来帮助记忆单词。生成式AI如ChatGPT或Microsoft Copilot可以用来创造例句、对话问题,并提供修改建议。

Ld0ceonline.com. Yeah. That's the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English online. Flashcard apps I mentioned, Anki and Quizlet to help you remember words. Generative AI, like ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot to create example sentences, to create conversation questions, to give you some corrections.

Speaker 4

Youglish.com是个很棒的工具,可以找到不同口音中单词或短语的真实发音样本。它像是YouTube的搜索引擎,能提供词汇使用的实例供你聆听发音。当然,如果有私教或语伴,可以请对方帮你练习单词并纠正错误。还有英语高频词表——这点我刚刚其实没提到。

Youglish.com, which is a great way to find authentic spoken samples of words or phrases in different accents. It's like a search engine for YouTube, which will give you samples of words and phrases being used, and you can listen to the way they're pronounced. Obviously, use if you've got a one to one teacher, a language partner, or something, use that person to help you practice words, give you corrections, and all the rest of it. Word lists of the most common words in English. Now when this is another thing to consider, which I actually didn't mention there.

Speaker 4

朗文当代英语在线词典能帮你识别最常用词汇。学习英语时,要重点掌握大多数人使用的词汇。你可以找到英语高频词表,比如朗文交际3000词表(Longman Communication 3000),这是朗文统计的3000个最常用词,还有牛津3000/5000词表。

And the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English online can help you with this because it shows you which words are the most common ones. Obviously, when you're learning English, you need to try to learn the sort of English that most people use. And you can find lists of the most common words in English. There's, like, the 3,000 there's the Longman Communication 3,000 list, which is the 3,000 most commonly used words in English according to Longman. And there's the Oxford 3,005 lists.

Speaker 4

这些词表能帮你优先学习重要词汇,相关链接在我的幻灯片里。主要是朗文交际3000词表和牛津3000/5000词表。当然还有我的《Luke's English播客》付费版,因为我制作付费内容和PDF时运用了所有这些方法技巧。这些方法论都体现在我的付费内容中,我帮你做了大量基础工作,准备了丰富的学习材料来实践刚才提到的所有方法。

So those can be very useful for helping you to prioritize your words, and you can find links, for those in my slides. But it's basically the Longman Communication 3,000 list and the Oxford 3,000 list and Oxford 5,000 list. Also, of course, there's Luke's English podcast premium because I use all of these methods and techniques when preparing premium episodes and PDFs. This is all the kind of know how and methodology that goes into the way that I produce the premium stuff. And the idea is that I kind of do a lot of the the legwork, the groundwork for you, and present you with lots of material, which is designed to help you apply all the things I've mentioned there.

Speaker 4

Speaker 4

我刚才向你抛出了大量信息,但希望你现在对学习词汇时我认为重要的考量点有了总体认识。这些都是你在继续学习英语时可以牢记的内容。就像我之前说的,不必强求应用我提到的每一个细节,但希望其中的建议能为你所用,实践后你会看到成效。明白了吗?幻灯片。

I threw quite a lot of stuff at you there, but, hopefully, you've got an general overview of what I think are important considerations when you are learning vocabulary. So that's just a lot of stuff that you can bear in mind as you continue to learn English. And like I said before, don't feel that you have to apply absolutely every single detail that I've mentioned, but hopefully there's advice there that you can take and use, and you should see the benefits if you do it. Okay? Slides.

Speaker 4

提到的幻灯片,你可以在本集节目页面上找到,就在我的网站里。描述区有链接。你还可以观看视频版,那是四月份我在Zoom上录制的原始工作坊记录。清楚了吗?那就这样。

The slides I mentioned, you can find them on the, page for this episode on my website. There's a link in the description. And you can check out the video version of this, which is the original recording of the workshop that I recorded on Zoom in April. Okay? Alright then.

Speaker 4
