Trump took to social media this weekend to announce a Monday press conference to address DC's crime rate. He wrote that he planned to, quote, essentially stop violent crime in Washington. A spokesperson for the White House said they could not give additional details on what Trump intended to announce. For years, Trump has criticized the nation's capital as being poorly run and afflicted by crime. But after a former staffer was injured this month in an attempted carjacking, Trump announced the week long police ramp up.

Health officials are warning those in the area to protect their health by limiting time outdoors and physical activity.

In 1978, toxic cane toads from Central And South America were introduced to an island in Japan to control pests. NPR's Regina Barber reports, now researchers are looking into why eagles there are able to escape death from the invasive food source. Many predators that eat these cane toads die of heart attacks, But the critically endangered crested serpent eagles do not. After analyzing blood and tissue samples from these eagles, the researchers found they have a special genetic adaptation to evade these toxins. An adaptation that the study's lead author Lisa Tobe says the eagles had long before they met the cane toads.

A 30 year old gunman who opened fire at a CVS drugstore near the headquarters of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday has been identified. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Patrick Joseph White of Kennesaw, Georgia died at the scene following an exchange of gunfire with local police. One officer was shot and killed and later identified as a DeKalb County officer, David Rose. He was a recent graduate of the police academy. An investigation is underway to determine the motive and circumstances that led to the shooting, GBI says there is extensive evidence to collect.
