Hello. Hello. I am sharing a quick bonus episode to give you a little sample of the art of speaking up newsletter. Every Wednesday, I send an email to those who are signed up for my newsletter, and I share a message of inspiration. I share career tips.
I share thoughts and reflections designed to motivate you and help you tap into your full potential and remember just how capable you are. And the other day, I was at Costco shopping, and I ate all of the Costco samples. I tried them all. Any sample that I passed by, I tried, and it reminded me how powerful it can be when you get to try something new. So I wanted to share a sample with you, and I wanted to share with you a sample of one of my newsletters so you can get a feel for the words and the writing that I share and so that you can sign up and join my newsletter if these types of messages feel super motivating to you.
So I picked a newsletter to read on this bonus episode. They're pretty short, so this will be quick. The subject line of this newsletter is assuming your boss knows more than you, which might be something that you are doing. If so, this will be highly relevant to you. So here we go.
Let me go ahead and read you what I wrote in the newsletter. I wrote, when you assume your boss knows more than you, you speak up way less in meetings. You think to yourself, why would my voice be needed in this room when my boss knows way more than I do? But here's the thing. A lot of times, your boss doesn't know more than you.
And even when they do, they are busier and more distracted than you, which means the more you can speak up, the easier their job is because they can let go of the reins and hand over more high level things to you. Your boss doesn't benefit when you keep quiet and defer to them. Your boss benefits when you speak up and show them that you can take work off their plate because you're paying attention and you're willing to have a voice in the room. The more you speak up in meetings, the more your boss can trust you to step in for them on big projects, and that's what gets you on a fast track to leadership. So next time you're in a meeting and you're thinking, I should keep quiet.
My boss knows more than me. Remember, your boss included you in that room for a reason. Your boss trusts your intellect and your potential. Time for you to start trusting it too. Alright.
